He was great 3-4 years tops. All the players here dominated their eras close to a decade or pulled off unplausible feats like Zidane dragging France to a final way past his peak against utterly stacked teams or Maradona's WC campaign (literally won Argentina the fawking title)

Value of winning a world cup is higher. More people tune in to watch and more people would also see their country win WC rather than their club win a European Champions League. Also results in more pressure on the players and in general it's almost a requirement for a GOAT legacy. It's just like life, it isn't always fair. For Ronaldo it isn't fair he plays for Portugal but that's just how things go. He has to do something remarkable to top Zidane in 99 or Maradona and Pele.
I agree players are better now. But you can only compare past players with other past players to determine how great they were. In every sport athlete's have improved since 1950. Areas of improvement include training methods, discipline, technique, nutrition and the list goes on...100m champ of 1950 wouldn't qualify for the Olympics today, doesn't mean he was not the greatest of his era and potentially greatest of all time.
My GOAT list:
#1 Pele
#2 Maradona
#3 Zidane
#4 Messi
#5 C. Ronaldo
Considering Ronaldo still has 3-5 solid years left in him he can easily rise. Him being on top for over 10 years may outweigh the world cup wins by others. Lets see. He doesn't have to win a World Cup, but if he can just step up and be amongst the top performers, it would really help his legacy. I know he was sort of injured in 14.Last edited by abc129; 03-19-2016 at 09:38 PM.

bumping this thread because of what C. Ronaldo said the other day
"I've been the best player in the last 20 years"

Goalkeepers are also players you know.....
As a Portuguese I will always remember Ricardo in euro2004. Said something to david beckam to fail penalty. On the last shot, the goal keeper removed gloves, defended the penalty and he himself scored the penalty to eliminate England from euro2004.
that was the most epic euro game ever. Portugal - England 2004
But on Ronaldo vs Messi...Messi is a natural talent + HGH. Ronaldo is mentioned by colleagues and coaches in other clubs as the first to arrive and last to leave.

ronaldo is one of the laziest, most unskilled yet lucky mofos out there. He cant take freekicks, he cant dribble anymore, he cant do anything anymore except be lucky. He is wayyyyyyy tooooo overrated. I see him in top 20 maybe if even. Lets be honest here guys.
Ronaldo is gone, he was good on manchester united but its over.If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like winter wheat but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Zyzz juicing his way to aesthetics through rich parents and various compounds. Let them say, I lived in the time of Shredikapu the true destined prince of aesthetics and the god of hard work. The man, the myth, the underdog, the king, the legend, the humble prince who defeated everyone just to get a shot at life...

Messi - what more needs to be said? Skill, speed and aggression.
Ronaldo 9 - When he was in shape he was one of the most explosive players in the game.
Zidane - the most elegant player i've seen. Guy looked like he was hardly trying out there. Effortless brilliance
CR7 - Speed, skill and power but weakness is lack of soccer IQ. Doesn't always make the right plays

I have to disagree. I believe that he is in that category. He is for sure one of the greatest goal scorers of all time, as well as one of the most complete players of all time.
I have to include a man that has scored 50+ goals in straight seasons, in amongst the greatest for sure.
With that being said, idk if he is number one of all time, but he is for sure top 3. For me, him and Messi are 1 and 2 greatest of all time

1st Ronaldo 1st Messi
What a time to be alive
I personaly prefer Ronaldo but cannot bash Messi, at this time having two guys that are breaking records on montlhy bases it is nuts, for me nowdays it is way more difficult to have players like Messi/Ronaldo then in times of garrincha/pele/maradona because of the technology and knowladge of tacticts, nutrition, phycology and anatomy

Pele, Maradona, and all those old school guys were nothing compared to Ronaldo and Messi. The level of athleticism just doesn't compare.
1. Ronaldo
2. Messi
No hate on Messi, he's number two but only by a point. If Ronaldo is 99 than Messi is 98 only because Ronaldo is a superior athlete to Messi in my opinion.[[ Chicago Crew ]]
