    Thanks for the kind replies. The guys and girls that work the counter at my gym say they don't even recognize me from the picture they initially took when i first signed up. Probably a bit of exaggeration on their part, but always nice to hear. They want me to update my picture on file, but I told them I wanted to wait until my official one year anniversary of Jan 21. I know that I have some of the "before" pictures uploaded to my profile on here, but in a couple of weeks I'll have some current photos to add for comparison.

    Now that I have lost a bunch of initial weight, I really need to look in to a dedicated beginner weight training program. I have dabbled with weight training on and off, but I feel like I can do a lot more now that I'm not carrying around so much...well more of me lol. I purchased a set of adjustable dumbbells for home. The gym I go to is Planet Fitness, which means unfortunately most of the work there has to be on machines rather than a barbell, which for a novice might be a good thing.

    1 Year Progress

    Okay guys, as promised, I have the before/after pictures of one year of weightloss! On a side note, I have just started the Stronglifts 5x5 program tonight! I know it is a pretty novice program, but simplicity and getting the proper form down will help me go a long way I think.

    Been a long time since I posted! I am still on the SL5x5 program, but I added some accessories after the main lifts. I usually do some type of curl, triceps rope pulldown, lat pulldown, and hanging leg raises (usually 3x15) after I am done with the main SL 5x5 lifts.

    My next goal is to be able to reliably be able to do chinup/pullups. I'm able to do one chinup at a time during the beginning of my workout, but by the end I'm too tired to even do a single one. i figure the lat pulldowns will help me get there on top of slowly cutting weight still. I've heard good results about doing the negative pullups, so may try that out.

    I normally take walks during my breaks at work to get in some (very) minor cardio since my gyms days are just all lifting these days.

    Had a doctor's appointment so I got to weigh in there. Came in at 209lbs! Doctor was blown away by my story and results.

    I ended up recently stopping the SL 5x5 program and switched to the Arnold's Golden Six routine. I still have accessory work added in and it makes for a brutal workout, but the results certainly keep me motivated.

    Can you please go into detail what your meals where like in the 300's where you just aiming for calorie count, a certain ratio? also what was your workout program like back then 100% cardio?

    How are your meals like now and your workout routine now at your current weight?

    Hey y0rascal,

    Sorry it's taken so long to respond, but allow me to give you the info you asked for!

    Most mornings I'd have some quaker instant oatmeal (160cal) packages in the microwave with water. Sometimes I'd add a couple of blackberries to it. My lunches are usually portioned for 600 cals and include everything from Jimmy Johns subs to meal prepped things like lasagna, chicken alfredo, and grilled chicken. For dinner I'd also portion about 600 cals and eat most of the same stuff I had for lunch, especially if I was meal prepping. I usually cook enough food to have for dinner and then leftovers for lunch. It has been very helpful for the waistline and the wallet!

    Somedays I would have a Quest or Kirkland protein bar for a mid day snack (190cals or so) and some nights I would have a pint of Halo Top after dinner if I had the cals budgeted for the say. I'd always remain under 2000 calories. If I had to have a "cheat" meal I would just eat at my maintenance calories that day by budgeting elsewhere on other meals. I feel it's very important to limit your "cheat" to just one meal and not an entire day of it.

    i didn't really pay much attention to macros honestly. My meals at my current weight are the same when I was 300+lbs. When I first started doing gym stuff, it was cardio on a stationary bike when I was just starting out. As I lost weight, it was easier to do other more high impact things like HIIT or treadmill work. I started walking during breaks at work when weather permitted.

    When I got to about 240lbs, I started lifting weights again. In hindsight I probably should have started sooner on a dedicated plan. At 240lbs I started Stronglifts 5x5, and made some excellent progress (for a beginner anyways). I've recently switched over to Arnold's Golden Six routine and feel like it is a much more intense workout. During SL5x5 and Arnold's, I worked out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Sometimes I would have a cardio day over the weekend. After I complete my main lifts, I do some accessory work for abs, bicep/tricept, and lats.

    It has been an incredible journey. When I look back at old pictures I can't believe how far I have come. I hate to speak in cliches, but I am certainly proof that if I can do this, anyone can do this.

    You are my role model.

    I am 311 at 6'4" right now which for me is horrible. 44, was probably 240 ten years ago. I have an actual gut that hangs now. I am doing it now. I used to lift a lot but need to get my diet right, ditch old habits, drink tons of water and walk walk walk. Way to go, I don't know you but you certainly made an impact on me.
