I'd agree with you, except that cooking some cuts of steak to well done without absolutely ruining them is next to impossible. The person then sends said steak back and wants another one, and the restaurant is out a steak.

Was at a local mom & pop steakhouse once and people in table next to me ordered extra well done steak. Server came back and said the chef cannot offer an extra well done steak and the most he will cook it to is "medium/medium well" and he doesn't usually do that even.

Customer got irate, demanded it extra well done and refused to leave unless she got it that way. Server went back to kitchen, chef comes out with a plate about 10 minutes later and slams it down in front of customer. I chit you not plate had a chunk of rubber on it, like legit rubber. (I'm assuming he's done this before).

Chef asked her if she wanted any ketchup with her rubber. Customer went ballistic and had to be escorted out by police.

Would rep the chef and server IRL.

When my english friend was visiting me I took him to a pub for some beer and burgers. He ordered a burger well done. I insisted he get it at least medium and he agreed and changed his order. Food came, he ate it and when he was done he said it was terrible and he wish he got it well done. I ruined the poor guys meal.

As a fine dining chef myself I'd only send something out medium well anything further than that can go to hell like the other ******* above claiming he likes his shiet cooked to black carbon.

We respect the main protein we are allowed to use, you gotta think about it a fish is born and spends its life swimming, growing, hunting and eating its prey aswell as trying to escape from other predators out there, all so that it survives long enough to be caught and eaten by us humans. Same things go for any other animal we eat.

**** ya this! Most restaurants will serve Choice or better steaks. For the people who don't know, Choice/Prime are the top two qualities of steak and indicate how much marbling (intramuscular fat) is in the cut. When you cook it all to hell well-done, all that marbled fat is cooked out and what you are left with is flavorless garbage. Why do you think well-done steak turds always ask for ****ing sauce? The meat has NO FLAVOR. It tastes like salted ****ing carbon!

If it was my restaurant I would tell them to **** off and go to Sizzler or Outback where they will gladly serve you garbage.

Cliffs of why chefs/cooks don't tolerate well-done steak:

- Goober orders well-done steak.
- "Too chewy. Not juicy!"
- Goober writes bad review for restaurant.
- Chef's and restaurant's reputations are tarnished and will be known for bad steak.

Yes. They might still get a bad review from refusing to serve a well-done steak order, but at least it shows to the important people that they have pride and integrity for their food. The chef cares about the opinion of other food lovers versus some picky goober who just wants to eat to fill his stomach. And lettuce be reality, people who order well-done steak are likely the same goobers ordering hamburgers and chicken strips at ethnic restaurants.

The chef is not your servant. A good chef takes pride in his food and refuses to serve you sub-par trash. The food is the chef's art that took him many years of his life to master. If you don't have the respect and courtesy to acknowledge this, then you don't deserve having these talented people serve you anything.

I have had numerous friends who's steak may have been cooked incorrectly, coming out medium rare, are starving and don't want to send it back, try it and their eyes widen with joy and "can't believe how good it is and that they never had it that way".

Reminds me of guacamole. Once you get past it being "green", it's amazing.

When eating animals you should respect the product and enjoy its optimum flavor and nutritional value. Overcooking degrades both of these aspects and devalues the whole process.

Its humans place in the food chain to hunt and kill and eat animals, but you really have to respect the end product of what they give you when you consume them.
