I'm eyeballing a .30-30 lever action for later this year. Is there a big difference in performance between an 18" and 20" barrel?

I was reading through this morning's post, and I had a perfect response for Farley's response to the new **** asking about a Kel Tec, then the thread got closed before I got to the end. Phuckers.

Ammo shipping costs make me sad. This is why I never buy it. I can get bullets shipped free but loaded ammo is upwards of $20 some places

There was (is? at least was) a battery drain issue. Quite a few people would have their batteries die due to parasitic drain while the light sat. It didn't take all that long either.
I have an inforce wml that has not had that problem (I didn't realize it was such a common thing until after buying it), but I won't be buying any more inforce lights.
How about a $198 shipped Surefire XC1? You want to be HSLD...XC1. Optics Planet

Looking at a Marlin since it is the only 18.25" I've seen locally. The 20" is okay, but a 24" barrel just doesn't balance right in my opinion. Plus, I'm not trying to come out of pocket $1,400 for a hunting rifle that I might use a few months out of the year.
