From what I can remember of the 80's, the early 80's anyway....it was a little smoky in my brain back then...this was my style.

That was one of my brother's favorite songs. He played High'n Dry constantly. Not really my taste but Pyromania had some pretty catchy pop songs.

What do you gents miss the most about the 80s? Any specific random things/memories you remember?
    Being young for a start

The feeling that is hard to describe that that period of your life makes you feel primary/high school.

That movie "stand by me" said it best "you never have friends like when you were 12"

Lets be honest though, I only got the tail end & I was very young but the 70s shat all over the 80s - way cooler & far more distinct with its own identity than the 80s. As every decade we get further from the 50s which was the first generation to really start claiming its own identity, it seems we become more homogenised and bland.

I rest my case with this video which was the pinnacle of human achievement in music and dance, nothing before or since has come this close to utter perfection - 1:05 then 1:49 then 2:04 if you want to see perfection in human movement.

The 80s were high school and university/college for me. Lived at home still. I watched Fame, Dallas, Coronation Street, and The Tommy Hunter Show on a big console TV, drank Tab pop, wore banana clips in my hair, shoulder pads in my sweaters, Sperry topsiders, and Lee painter's pants.

By the end of the 80s I was a grown-up. I listened to Jeff Healey Band and INXS. I also loved what they called "new Country" music back then too (Reba, kd lang, Dwight Yoakam), which I ordered from Columbia House Records and Tapes. I drank those General Foods International Coffees and watched Murder She Wrote, Matlock, and In The Heat of the Night on my own big console TV. My first home's decor consisted of a lot of dusty rose, wedgewood blue, dishes of pot pourri, and collector plates. I read Nora Roberts, Rosamunde Pilcher, and Danielle Steele.

I guess I miss Jeff Healey the most. And banana clips. Nothing held my hair like a banana clip. But, time marches on. With an Alannah Myles tape in my Walkman and dark brown lipstick in my purse, I marched right into the 90s.

Things were different in the 90's IMO - and I'm not just saying that because this is an 80's nostalgia thread. Or maybe I am, but either way lol..

But I remember how the 80's seemed like such a fun, and happy time. But once 1990 hit, things turned dark and weird.. Women went from big hair, makeup and looking hot, to baggy flannel shirts. Men went from being clean-cut and well dressed to long, dirty hair, goatees and nose rings. Everybody was sullen and angry all the time too. And the music... ugh. I remember thinking "WTF is a Grunge?"

And I was only 23 in 1990, so I wasn't exactly an old fart at the time... I didn't like it though. Odd transition was odd.

Oh my God please help me waist deep in the river can you hear my plea
He says son you come like a begger in the streets
you might make it boy but by the skin of your teeth.

I rambled with the worst of them
fell in love with a harlequin
Saw the darkest hearts of men
And I saw myself staring back again, and I saw myself staring back again...

I think Rasputin is a catchier song.

There will come a day when I tire of listening to 80's music. That day is not today.

So last night I sent my GF a text referencing a line from the movie Goodfellas (I reference that movie whenever possible). She gets annoyed and says only people that like 80's music would like that movie. lol So that was like a double insult to me. SMH

Being picked on by my Neighbor, Todd the 18 year old typical high school Prep and his bad ass 1968 Camaro, drinking beer(legal then!) and blasting to 80's big hair rock bands with the 8 track player. Me sidelined wishing I was like him, ohh well I guess my Schwinn banana seat fat rear tire bike sufficed.
