    BMW m2

What are your thoughts on it?

    -3,450lbs
    -3L turbo i6
    -370 hp at 6,500 rpm
    -343 lb-ft
-0-60 in 4.2s ( believed to be severely underrated )
    -stick shift option
    -$51k msrp

The new BMW M2 Coupe: a high-performance sports car with spine-tingling performance.
Back in the early 1970s, the BMW 2002 turbo was already causing heads to turn and hearts to flutter. Indeed, the compact high-performance sports car perfectly encapsulated BMW's resolution to deliver outstanding dynamics, agility and car control. And now, over 40 years on, BMW M GmbH is unveiling the new BMW M2, as if to demonstrate once again that this commitment is alive and well. With its high-performance six-cylinder in-line engine, rear-wheel-drive agility, lightweight aluminium M Sport suspension and extrovert styling, the new BMW M2 Coupe has all the ingredients to deliver the last word in driving pleasure. The newly developed three-litre six-cylinder in-line unit powering the BMW M2 uses state-of-the-art M TwinPower Turbo technology to develop 272 kW/370 hp at 6,500 rpm and, in so doing, lays down a marker in the high-performance compact sports car segment. The same applies to power delivery. Peak torque of 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) can be increased to as much as 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) in short bursts under overboost, all of which enables the new BMW M2 with optional seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) and Launch Control to accelerate from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), or 270 km/h (168 mph) if the M Driver's Package is specified. Yet, with its M DCT transmission, fuel consumption of just 7.9 litres* per 100 km (35.8 mpg imp) and CO2 emissions of only 185 g/km*, the car is also keen to emphasise its outstanding efficiency. And even greater driving pleasure is on the cards when the Dynamic Stability Control system's M Dynamic Mode (MDM) is activated. MDM allows wheel slip and therefore moderate, controlled drifts on the track.

Pretty surprised by the 51k base msrp, loaded M235i's have been selling for around that number. Of course BMW will have everything as an option and it'll end up being more like 60k real world.

Kinda wish we would have held out on my wife's 435i based on this price...

But, individual options in this M would cost a fortune... And she doesn't need that kind of performance. Her 435 is fast enough.

    Haha

    Beautiful car.

^^This. Price seems too high to me. Not much of a price difference between these and the M3.

If this had a base of like 40-45k, I think that would be better. Been looking at used M3 pricing and doesnt line up with getting an M2.

I think the 435 is miles ahead of the 2 looks wise. Other than that the new M2 is what the M3/4 should have been weight/ chassis size wise, everything is just getting too fat.

I think the M4 looks "proper" though when compared to the M2. The M2 looks a little stunted in the pictures imo. M4's in person are so glorious. Thoroughly shocked when i first saw one

You can't compare the m3 (4 door only) to the m2 2 door.

I'd be willing to bet the m2 is faster than the m3. And a lot more nimble.

    Sedans: M3, M5
    Coupes: M2, M4, M6

I think base pricing on the m2 is fair.

I don't disagree. What I really like about the wife's 4, is just how incredibly nice it is on the inside, without sacrificing exterior styling and performance at the 60k price point. If I remember correctly we paid just shy of 64k.

Coupe M4 coupe is 425 hp and starts at 65k so I could see that. So pricing is more in line with M coupes rather than all M's.

That's kinda how I see it, tbh.

I think it's a solid entry level M vehicle with pretty good performance based on spec.

It'll have a lot of F30/F32 buyers question which one to choose I bet!

The 428i coupe starts at 41k and the 435i starts at 48k ballooning up to 59k for the xdrive convertible.

You may remember I posted a spy pic and an the official unveiling thread about the M2 last year.

I still think the car is awesome and there is definitely a spot in the market for the m2.

The m4 is a better car, but more expensive, bigger and possible less 'raw'

The m235i is a great car, but is very sedate in its styling.

The m2 looks way more aggressive, is a decent price, is faster and comes with a better auto gearbox than the m235i, and sounds better than the m4 in my opinion.

People are expecting the m2 to have everything thing the m4 does, but be smaller and cheaper. Obviously that is not realistic as it would be terrible business for BMW. Hence why the Carbon fibre roof is missing.

To me, the quintessential nature of a BMW is a small, sporty RWD car. The M2 with is small wheelbase and low + wide shape IS JUST BEGGING TO BE DRIVEN HARD.

Top 5 laundry detergents in the game (don't judge my opinion):

1.Tide (delivers a clean and fresh style of)
2.Oxi clean (attacks dry stains like a monster)
3.all (deserves a spot in the top 5 but not the best)
4.wisk (I respect the stain spectrum tech. But needs to fight harder for that top 3)
5.purex (up and coming in the game)

You could just mod an e46 M3 and save some money and get a better car in the end.

    This!

The M2 is nearly the size of the E36 and E46 M3, while the M4 is the size of older 5 series.....

It's happening everywhere, like the latest VW Polo being the size of MK1 VW Golf, the new Mini being a monster next to the old mini.....same for new vs old fiat 500

1 and 2 series look like a joke. I cant take anyone who drives these seriously. Its like a child size,For people: I can't afford a proper size car but because I want to be in the "club" to drive a BMW so I get this instead.

For the most part before the BMW huge series revamp, this was true. The 3 series, used, was the poser BMW for folks who just wanted the name/badge. Plenty of folks like that. Now, even the 1 and 2 series are priced out of the range of such types; moreso with this M2. Hence the crap warranty. You have to be able to afford this car to even look at it.

What I never understood is why if someone buys a used, old BMW, it's always because the person is a poser who wants to show the badge, and not because the person is intelligent enough to get a reliable, good quality interior, amazing driving dynamics (at least in euro roads)....and wants to save money.

Why spend 60 thousand euros (yes, in europe cars are way more expensive) for a full extras 320D when you can get one with a few years and only 60k KM for less than 17k euros????

A 60.000km car is not old.....go on german websites and you see loads of them with 3-4 years and over 300.000km, if not over 500.000km

The back of the M4 is much better looking then the M2 because of its additional length

Honestly I'd go with a base M4 if I was in the market for a 50-60k rwd coupe, they come standard with keyless entry and a harmon kardon sound system and chit like that now, I don't really need anything else. Gotta have that S55 engine and carbon roof (anyone know if the M2 is getting the carbon strut brace?)

As long as BMW makes a decent amount of M2's they will be a good bargain in the used market 4-5 years from now.

Fully loaded w/DCT for 56.4k plus dest, not too bad vs 65.7k base for an M4.

Not completely sold on the looks though, feels too bloated.
