Yeah, I do the magnesium + benadryl and it works well for me. The heat can be a killer. Do you have a fan, air conditioning, etc.? I read somewhere (NYTimes) that our bodies respond to cooler temperatures by going to sleep (because nighttime = cool I guess).

Ah the joys of insomnia/summer in LA with no fan in my room. I haven't tried magnesium. The melatonin is recent as I have a hard time taking anything on a regular basis. Ice packs help if mine hadn't disappeared...

Yeah no. I can't do meditation. The last few minutes of yoga when we were supposed to clear our minds and meditate I ended up mostly thinking about pb and jelly donuts, lol. I always have stuff to think about and would rather think about novel ideas instead of trying to go calm or blank. Fan would help. The heat is affecting it for sure but I do tend to take around an hour or so as a good night.

Phoenix has a lower TDEE too, and the OMAD seems to work pretty well, I think shrinking your eating window is worth a shot. That and just keeping busy, it's harder to think about hunger or cravings when you're doing other stuff.

Best of luck with the sleep issues, between hormonal f*ckary, and trying to sleep in a position that won't kill me the next morning it's been rough for me too.
Thanks. It is easier most of the time to eat lower calories if not having food in the morning, especially since I'm a night person and stay up later often. I do one meal occasionally right now or at least the bulk at one time. The only downside is I struggle more to get the 80+ grams of protein on one meal but working on it like usual. Keeping busy/distractions are helpful too. Easier when I'm at work doing stuff than when I'm at home where I keep my food.

Indeed, the height and gender factors don't help. Quite the little nuisance. I've done IF style and eating more later in day not eating at all in morning but sometimes it's a struggle. Still I could eat more than 1500 in a single meal but it's a little easier when keeping it or the bulk towards end of day. Just factoring in work and lifting schedule makes it a struggle at times.

We have AC but it's in the living room and doesn't help anywhere but that room. No fan. I used to fall asleep with an ice pack on really hot days but my pack is missing. True that it's easier to go to sleep when cooler compared to heat.

I have had melatonin. Even had that and a benadryl one night but still took me 3 hours to fall asleep. I blame the heat. I have fun dreams either way. How I get my novel ideas.

Today had work but it wasn't too bad. Didn't eat until later but worth it cause stopped by the ice cream shop after gym time for a pint and had a waffle ice cream sandwich. Yum. Had a couple of moments at the gym where wanted to be done already but overall it went decent enough.

    cable abs - 4x15 @ 80

Thursday night I went and got work done on my left tattoo sleeve. Now I have more than just a little "drink me" bottle from alice in wonderland. Took about 2 hours and is a good starting bit of flowers with the main one being the rose. I'm waiting for it to heal a little more before posting pictures online, plus not posting on the site family can see until after Vegas cause the rose is for my mom and I want her to see it in person first.

Tomorrow is my day off and I get to spend the day with a kitten. We're fostering little kitty for roommate's cousin who found it in an alley. Can't have the cat alone yet so we're taking care of it for a few weeks since we always have someone in the apartment. Tomorrow is my day so I'll get to feed and play with a baby kitty all day long. It's adorable.

They are adorable when little. Roommates full grown cat is a bit of a tardo too so he's funny though sister doesn't like him as much as her cat or the kitten we are fostering. Going to be tough when it goes to its home though.

Kitten is adorable. Fostering is fun to play with little kitten but then they have to leave so that will be sad. Tiny is cute though. Sister wants to try being a foster occasionally for kittens since she's home all day. We'll see. Thanks on the tattoo comment too but that was just the drawing before the needle got used. I haven't posted a picture of the finished product quite yet. It's in the peeling stage but once that's over I'll post so people can see how it turned out.

Skipped gym yesterday cause Monday was rough at work. Instead, came home to feed and play with kitten. I have close shift tonight and need to do max effort squats so it's going to be a late night.

Well, ended up not going to the gym on Tuesday after work. Had the best intentions but it just doesn't work out when I have a close shift (end at 9 pm then have to drive home) followed by a morning shift (be there by 9:30 so leave at 8 am). Would take about an hour to get to gym so by the time finished everything and made it home, found parking and such it would have been around midnight. Instead I went home and fed the kitten.

Did go to the gym Wednesday instead for squat max effort. Had to do squat to a low box and work way up to 1 rep max. Only managed to 205 and that was a grind but oh well.

    box squat - 1x6 @ 115, 2x5 @ 145, belt 1x4 @ 165, 1x2 @ 185, 1x1 @ 195, 1x1 @ 205
    overhead squat - 1x6 @ 45, 2x6 @ 65, 1x3 @ 75
    back extension - 3x12 @ 10
    cable abs - 3x15 @ 80
cardio - 30 minutes walking treadmill with slight incline

Yesterday was bench max effort but it was on close grip. I rarely do that and had only done the lighter weight occasional attempt at pause in the past. Interesting but my elbow still isn't the biggest fan of the lift. Then managed to jog on treadmill for 45 minutes. Didn't get one of the back treadmills so was limited by hour anyways and think I could last an hour jogging even though I stopped at 45. The back treadmills in the gym the time goes up from 0 whereas the others start at 60 minutes and count down. So if can get one of the ones that start at 0 I can try for over an hour when don't feel like running outside but do need to get more runs done outside since races aren't usually on treadmills and outside is better in general.

    close grip bench - 1x8 @ 65, 1x5 @ 85, 1x3 @ 95, failed at 105, 1x2 @ 95
    bent over row - 4x8 @ 70
    lat pull down - 3x8 @ 85
cardio - 5 min walk, 45 minute jog, 10 min walk

Close grip is a weird one. I personally only move my hands in a few inches because any closer and it's pretty uncomfortable.

Good job on the run, that's a long farking time on a treadmill, patience of peace. I keep reading if you're going to train on a treadmill put it at a slight incline to make it semi harder and to simulate more of running outside. Is that really something people should do? Have never ran on a treadmill in my life, srs. When winter hits I'm going to have to start though, don't want to lose mileage just because the world is covered in ice.

Awww kitten sitting! <3 My big ginger was a hellion as a kitten, adorably cute but dangerous and too brave for his own good. Had to put child locks on everything so he didn't turn the gas on and blow up the house. He still will attempt to eat toilet paper and shoelaces so now all shoes get locked in the bathroom for everyone's protection.

You know, a lot of people knock treadmills as unlike running outside, but I trained to run a sub-20-minute 5k solely on a treadmill, plus maybe two or three outdoor runs right before the race to get used to the weather. I simply find the surface is more even and it's easier to avoid injury on the machine, plus temperature control and convenience if you lift the same day. IDK, I'll always defend treadmills. It can be a good idea to vary the incline, but it's not necessary, for example, to keep it at 1.0 to "mimic the outdoors" or "wind resistance." Wind resistance doesn't create any meaningful difference in pace until you're running a sub-6:00-mile.

    /treadmill rant over

My elbows are also not a fan of CGBP. It's just a weird angle. I wish triceps exercises were less hard on the elbows. The only ones that really are seem to be dips, and those are hard on the shoulders! Oops.

Yeah that is the downside, but at least you can keep fostering kittens over and over. At least at the end they go to a new loving home, and you don't have to deal with parting with them the other way.

Can't wait to see the actual tat, if the drawing is that pretty I'm sure the tattoo is lovely.

In regards to close grip BPing, I don't even think it's my elbows I'd have to worry about. My shoulder would probably hate it, but I can't even regular BP right now, so close grip is hardly something I need to worry about. Nice cardio time, I can get about 20-30min before I'm just bored of it (though tbf my treadmill sucks, and it's hard to set up something to watch for that long).

Sometimes that's exactly the reason I'd rather be on a treadmill. I hate when it's too humid, and I don't really have clothes I can run in rain with. I don't do runs, so I don't need to get used to the elements anyway. When the conditions are nice it can be refreshing to run outdoors, like early morning/late evening cool and breezy. Oh, and fluff the horse flies, that's enough reason to want to use a mill. Lol.

Having a treadmill can be super convenient, it may not be the same, but you're still getting that cardio work, and endurance. It's not like you're going to be awesome at treadmill running, then be all "aww chit I can't run, this wind resistance is too much!" >.<

You just need a good youtube playlist!

Oh, and side note treadmills > ellipticals. I know it's not as good for your joints, but I hate the arm things on ellipticals, they always stretch too far, and I'm tall ffs. I have longer limbs by default, but those things always feel like they want to rip my shoulder out of its socket.

Yeah, ellipticals are a. not as good a workout and b. uncomfortable on my joints.

As a side note, a huge pet peeve of mine is when a person says they "Went running" but then admit they mean "used the elliptical." I know a girl who claims to run for an hour a day but "run" means "elliptical." Or a friend of my dad's who's a compulsive liar claims he "ran 6 miles today" but it was... yeah, elliptical. -_-

Right?! Don't get me wrong, it is exercise, but it's not nearly as physically challenging as running. My brother is my height, and 210 (he's not muscular), and he can last on an elliptical for faaaaar longer than a run. Same for me, I can elliptical for 100x as long as I can run. lol

Sorry we've hijacked your thread for elliptical discussion, F2F, lol.

I hate the Dreadmill!! hee hee! But only because of the boredom factor. I know that people can and do train quite well for races using treadmills. I'd just rather die outside in the heat, humidity, rain, snow etc!
