Random addition of stress. Been considering grad school for years now and had looked at a possible online one in part because it didn't require the GRE but the emphasis is not quite where I was looking to go in the field of psychology. Instead, I found a different one that's pretty much what I want to study. It's a PhD in Social Psychology with emphasis on research with a minor area requirement with Diversity being an option. Sounds ideal. However, the application deadline for Fall 2019 is Dec 1 2018. So, I'd have to relearn math, brush up on logic, take the GRE and find 3 amazing references (plus the money though Dad already offered to pay for the test portion) by mid November.
I so want to go for it but at the same time stress and is it possible. The references are almost the harder point though after vacation I'm working 6 days in a row as we're getting into flu season so we're getting busy. I haven't even put the time to writing novels occasionally let alone studying on a regular basis. But finding the right three people who can discuss in professional manner my qualifications is a big challenge. So, I'm hedging a little but it's definitely up for major consideration.

WOW, that sounds like a big decision to make. I think you can't regret trying for it, even if you have to put other things on the back burner (like writing) for a little while. But whatever you decide, good luck.

Well, you've got time to decide on grad school but the best thing you can do right now is start preparing as if you decided yes. Never hurts to be prepared. The math stuff is pretty easy, all high school stuff, they just try to make it look complicated by making it into word/comprehension questions.

Good point as it's hard to regret when you at least tried. Though hoping not to put the writing on the backburner as right now I'm trying to get it off that. Something about working retail has killed most of my creative outlets and I'm trying to change that. Thanks for the well wishing.
True there is time though only 2 months if want to apply for the fall 2019 term. I checked out a GRE book over summer and honestly, I just don't remember most of the math rules or formulas. Once i refresh that it shouldn't be too bad. I'm thinking of buying those study sheets that have the formulas and just study them a couple days a week. Indeed I'm a Virgo. Thanks.
Thank you. We'll see since work can be so chaotic but need to do something to get out of retail for sure.

Vegas Recap
I'm so behind. It has been 2 weeks since Vegas, during which I haven't even been to the gym. We got back Sunday night from the vacation and I worked Monday morning at 9:30 am. I then worked 6 days in a row, had Sunday off, then worked another 6 days in a row. Haven't done much online at all during that time. Mostly worked and slept.
Vegas was fun. Involved a lot of food, booze and general merriment. Not gym work though we did walk a lot and the day we also went to the club at night, my legs were so tired and sore. We ate at the buffet in the MGM several times. They had a variety of food, mimosas in morning/brunch and wine/beer in the evening.
We went to the show at Excalibur. It has become a family tradition as the three times we've gone to Vegas as a family, we have gone to the show and to be honest, it hasn't changed in all of those years either. When we got the tickets the choices were Russia or Dragon. Russia is the one that cheats and the Dragon is technically the villain. Sister picked dragon cause mythical creature. He may never win but the audience cheer portion, that time the dragon section won. The food is basic but good with the chicken and potatoes plus having to eat with your hands. Apparently to work in the show, for the guys you have to have long hair except for Russia, who was bald. And there are some guys who get hired in part to not wear shirts.
For stepdad's birthday (not on his birthday but the day before) we went to the comedy club in MGM. We saw a few comedians and had drinks, which was fun. Mom and Stepdad did some gambling while we were there, mostly on the penny slots. I'm not into gambling so I didn't do any of that. We also did a dinner for me, which ended up being on Sunday because it was supposed to be a lunch but the place we decided on didn't open except for dinner time. Ended up getting to try out Morimoto, one of the US iron chefs. Not only was the food good but the chef was actually there that night. I didn't take a picture cause I am terrible at thinking to do that stuff but sister and stepdad got a (poorly taken) photo with him and Morimoto signed a napkin for my stepdad for his birthday. The dessert included fire, which was also fun. My dinner was a sushi bowl that had a variety. It was quite good though the place is rather pricey.
Seriously so much food when we were in Vegas. I haven't stepped on a scale since then. Need to get back to the gym but have a little bit more of an update to post next. This is part 1.Gym Max: 229/126/305

OMG those food pictures though, especially the sushi. It sounds like you had a lot of fun, and after your last training cycle, I think you definitely deserved the break/reboot. What training program are you doing next?

A small selection is counted in the buffet tab. The mimosas in the morning/brunch and a couple domestic beers and probably on the cheaper side wines for the evening one. The show can be summed up pretty quick. Arthur hosting event for knights of round table, his son wants to some day be one of the nights. Dragon not invited to take part. Russia cheats a couple of times, someone almost wins then the Dragon has his knight and men attack. Arthur's son fights him and eventually wins. The end. Will say the Dragon knight had one of the coolest shields. I want one.
Thanks. I'm going to do Westside Conjugate method for fun and to see how working towards max on a regular basis goes. Plus it's 4 times a week upper/lower type of split with some wiggle room and includes good mornings along with some interesting varieties of lifts I haven't tried much before. Once I get my lazy butt back in the gym.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Probably similar. The little games like jousting, I think it varies which country wins but at the end it's Arthur's son saving the day and earning a place at the round table. I am not certain that Russia cheats all of the time but it sure seems like it.
So much more to update. Others on here get wounded from runs and such but I had a wound incident on vacation that is still finishing healing and might scar a little. Also while we were in Vegas, after the comedy club, my sister got us into a club in the Wynn to see a dj. No idea who the dj was or anything but figured it would be fun plus I'd had a fair amount to drink. It was one confusing club though as it's part indoor and part out. I ended up near the DJ without even noticing, mostly focused on the people around me as ended dancing with a few girls. Trying to find my way out drunk though was a struggle and I ended up falling on some type of mulch bark stuff or something. Anyways, the end result was wounds on my right shin/knee and forearm.
Not even sure how I fell or anything because not like lots of people were around me or anything. Didn't even feel any pain. However, my legs were really tired from the long day that included walking/standing then dancing, which I never do. While walking back to our hotel though had issues with my knees buckling. They do that on occasion though haven't (have bad knees) but haven't full on gone out on me in years just usually it's a one time buckle then things are back to normal. My knee probably tried to give out when I fell. Getting too old for this stuff, lol.
Work has been crazy busy. As soon as I got home, I worked 6 days in a row, had one day off, then worked 6 days in a row again. I finally have a week with 2 days off so don't work today or Sunday. I did, however, manage to go out the first Sunday I had off to a group I found on Meetup for asexuals. Nice to socialize a little and meet some new people. It was an interesting group that meets at a sandwich place once a month which includes varying genders and self-identifications. Hoping to go again in the future as there is also a monday meetup at a pizza place.
Finally: I adopted two kitties from a no kill animal shelter here in LA, located over in Beverly. One is a very timid one year old gray cat named Hermione. She has a tendency to hide and didn't come out of the little cage/room thing in the shelter when I was there looking at the different kitties. At the shelter you sign up to meet them individually. She liked being petted though and I felt like she would be a good fit here. I also got a black kitty who is almost 3 months old named Janis Joplin (nicknaming her Ji-Ji). She's very affectionate and energetic. When I held her at the shelter she just lay in my arms purring to the point she trembled a little so had to bring her home. It's hard to sleep with her in my room though as any time I move she wants attention, which means she rubs her body against my face. Slight struggle with box training though as she will use the litter box but has also taken to using the bed too, so need to work on that with her. Keeping them separate for now as there was a potential ringworm exposure with the kittens and Ji-Ji needs one more vaccine once I can get the new schedule from boss so can get her to the vet.
Haven't been to the gym in so long. Need to get back in the habit again and get training. However, I now have to also study for the GRE. I signed up for the test on November 16 since that was the latest I could take it in order to apply for the program for next fall. Already stressed and so much to do in 1.5 months.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Battle wounds! You don't need any obstacles to fluff yourself up when you're tipsy lol. That's why I feel better drinking in places I can stay seated for most of the time, well after a certain point, being a bit buzzed I can manage to not hurt myself. Then again, I'm clumsy sober, so it's probably good if I'm a lazy drinker. >.<
Yay for the kitties! Double yay for adopting! They're so cute, and I love the names. Ji-ji's an adorable nickname, and can't go wrong with a cat named Hermione.PRs: 95lbs/126lbs/212lbs

Battle wounds indeed. I'm not clumsy though I do bruise at random and don't remember/know how I got them but usually it's not like this though I also rarely drink. Though I did re-injure the lower part of the shin on a red tote at work. Through knee-hi socks and scrubs I managed to scrape the same spot so it's still healing.
We figured from a shelter would mean renaming cause what some people come up with names is questionable at times. However, these are the names the cats already had and they just fit so well I decided to not change them. Now just need to get time to take 'em to the vet cause Ji-Ji needs one last vaccine and both need another flea treatment though they aren't going outside or anything so shouldn't get fleas. First I need to find out when I get a day off. The schedule is only up for Wednesday and past that is unknown. Manager is going to work on it tomorrow.
I finally made it to the gym yesterday. Walked to the gym for a quick ease my way into things type of workout. Just squats, overhead squat and deadlift all with lighter weights. And I'm sore today. Skipping around 3 ish weeks is rough to get back into the swing of things. Tomorrow night after work the real fun starts as it's back to program and hoping to go 4 days a week again. Need to get back into habits then start back on the cut.
Not sure when I'll do a half marathon. Aside from training, the problem is paying for things. Would help if my sister didn't owe me so much but it is what it is. Plus I need to pay for federation membership and want to do another meet. Need to replace bedding and so much else that money is needed for, like grad school application. Good thing I'm working enough but making study time hard to come by too. So much but hoping to get more productive and maybe even a little social.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Was supposed to go to the gym Tuesday night after work but was tired and still sore from working out on Sunday. Like woke up in the early morning at 3 am cause of the soreness. So, decided to wait another day. I did finally manage to get to gym after a close shift yesterday. Even though tad achy and shins are often hurting after work went in at 10 pm to lift.
Power Lower - Squats
squats - bar 1x8, 115 1x8, 135 1x6, belt 165 2x5, 175 1x3, 185 2x1
good morning with belt - 165 3x4
deadlift - 135 1x8, 155, 1x5, belt 185 3x5
Tis all. Not bad since i haven't done heavy squats in around a month or so. It was the day for going up to 1 rep on squat. Might have been able to do 195 but figured ease into it and do a little lighter on the first weeks. Trying to decide if I'll bench tonight or tomorrow. Throws off the schedule if I wait until tomorrow but I'm getting krispy kreme for my coworkers then. The pharmacist is going to be stressed because her mom is having surgery that day. She had been scheduled for it last weekend so she's taken the time off then the surgery got postphoned so now it's when she has to be at work. So, I'm going to bring in the donuts she likes to help at least distract a little.
Not dieting yet but need to ease my way back into things. Haven't even stepped on a scale but know it's over 130 again and probably over 135. Going to be a long road back to trying to get under 120.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Yeah, it's unreal to me that you can come back to squatting and immediately go that heavy. Is that your best lift proportionally?
I feel you on the cut it's so easy to gain weight and so hard to lose it; I know that's basically an adage at this point, but honestly, ridiculous.

Thanks. The fur babies are indeed quite cute. As far as the squat is concerned, I think I'm okay at them but maybe deadlift is a little better. Both are better than bench for sure as haven't increased in that for a long time. However, the squat was more hindered from the cut and the water cut before the last meet while I still managed to deadlift a little bit more than the previous meet.
I don't even want to step on the scale but will need to soon to see how much I have to re-lose. It's very easy to get back to 140 but has been so hard to get and stay below 130. If only I was taller then this wouldn't be considered overweight. But since my last growth spurt was freshman year of high school and I'm now in my thirties, don't think that factor will be changing any time soon.
Finally made it back to the gym. Ended up not going either of the last two days. So, after napping post taking Ji-Ji to the vet for vaccines (still have one more to do in a month or so) made myself walk to the gym but only did a little upper body session before walking home.
bench - 1x8 @ 45, 1x8 @ 65, 2x6 @ 75, 1x4 @ 85, 2x2 @ 95
tricep pushdown - 3x10 @ 70 with bar attachment
face pull - 3x10 @ 70 with rope attachment

Also, forgot to mention two things I've seen at the gym.
Today it was a guy wearing a singlet. Rarely happens in the commercial gym as it's mostly just a random mix of people. I only wear mine in the gym if doing the max test on a peak cycle since trying to somewhat replicate meet setting so need to wear the gear to do the lifts.
Wednesday was even better. A woman was doing hip thrusts and she did a few reps with 325 lbs. It was like "damn!" Quite an impressive sight. I'm too lazy to even do the setup for hip thrusts plus don't have the padding for the bar so I haven't even made it past 135.Last edited by Fiction2Fitness; 10-07-2018 at 12:06 PM. Reason: Math

70 for tricep pushdowns and face pulls.... 0_0 wow.
I see singlets all the time, but not in my lifting gym--in my BJJ gym. Some of the guys wear them for nogi and a few women wear them under their gi so they can have something seamless. They are wrestling gear after all.
I feel like hip thrusts are something that can improve quickly for a lot of women if we focus on them. I'm sure if you chose to improve yours you could."The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

Awww they're beautiful! LMAO at cat demanding attention while you sleep, they put their butts in your face out of love.
Never used to see anything like that at chain gyms I went to, but have seen that at my current gym which tends to bring in people from various sports. Also see different people with a Slingshot like once a week. Boxing, karate, all kinds of stuff is going down at the current gym.Current PRs:

I actually never see anyone using a slight shot and we don't have chains at all either.
Ji-Ji is cute until she gets too comfortable when we're sleeping and doesn't leave the bed/couch to go to the litter box. I haven't slept in my room for over a week, had to get rid of some bedding and put stuff on top of the bed to break the habit. This morning, since we finally let her roam free with the other cats, she did it again but on the couch with me. She was fine the first couple of hours, just sleeping near my legs while Hermione was near my head. But woke up to cats hissing then noticed a spot on the blanket, couch and my shorts cause she hadn't got up. It's only when I'm sleeping, which makes it a challenge to catch her before it happens. Trying to find solutions but it's a struggle and now I'm probably going to be late for work as had to wash sister's blanket.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Finally taking time to post. Haven't had internet this month except when connecting to phone because sister was late on paying the bill. She got it done at last so now can use the regular internet and do some stuff online. So much to say but first, gym stuff. I decided since I work the weekdays pretty much all of the time but vary one morning or evening shift, it would be better to move the heavy days to saturday and sunday. That way even when I work we're closed at 6pm. Didn't go Saturday though as it was my 6th day in a row and struggled that day so had a bad headache by the time I made it home. So combined things on Sunday for a mixed day and am working my way into doing the 4 days a week training schedule.
Sunday (10-14)
conventional deadlift - 2x6 @ 135, , 1x5 @ 185, belt 1x4 @ 225, chalk 1x3 @ 245 and 2x1 @ 265
pendlay row - 3x5 @ 95 with chalk
floor press - 1x8 @ 45, 1x6 @ 65, 2x5 @ 75, 1x3 @ 85
barbell bridge - 1x8 @ 65, 2x8 @ 75, 1x8 @ 85
Not bad since it's the first heavy deadlift session since the break. Though pendlay still feels blah after the 3rd rep. I do the bridges since I'm already on the ground with the barbell basically there when trying to do the floor press so weight isn't the heaviest and my range of motion isn't far either.
Tuesday I made it in for the lighter lower day even with working until 9 pm. The good part is the lighter, dynamic days tend to take a little less time since not working up to the heavy weights. This way even when I get there by 10 I know it's not going to take me until midnight unless I throw in cardio. Makes it easier to get myself to go instead of just driving home. Though was only supposed to lift at around 50% on squats but oh well. Lifted whatever numbers I felt like and got it done.
Lower Dynamic (10-16)
squat - 2x6 @ 115, 2x6 @ 125
good morning - 2x8 @ 115, 2x8 @ 125
overhead squat - 2x6 @ 45, 1x5 @ 65
sumo deadlift - 1x8 @ 135, 1x6 @ 165, belt 2x5 @ 185
Stress and other stuff to ramble about will follow, probably tomorrow. Coworker needed to switch so have another morning shift again but only work 5 days in a row this week instead of 6. Looking forward to the weekend with no work.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Nice DLing, and seconding what SS said regarding going so heavy on squats after being off for so long.
Regarding the woman doing hip thrusts, I heard it's fairly easy for women to get bigger numbers on that. Even heard some say they dropped to a weight lower than what the most they can do because the effort was still about the same after a certain point. I think there was a theory behind this, but I can't remember. Either way 135 is still challenging, I'm only doing 117 right now. I want to get a barbell pad eventually to make it a bit easier on my hips, but so far managing with just a thrice folded very thick sweater as a pad.PRs: 95lbs/126lbs/212lbs

Thanks. I'm too lazy to do the set up for hip thrusts plus don't find the towels to be sufficient as pads. Maybe some day I'll get a barbell pad of my own and bring it to gym, then make myself set up and do the lift more often. For now I'll just envy the ones who lift heavy with it.
Today made it to the gym after work and got a slight surprise. I've been to the gym but only down in weight area. Went up after lifting for cardio only to discover brand new equipment. The treadmills are all different with the back row having high techy screens I struggled to use. There are even a few spin bikes now out of the class area near the back wall. Lifting went okay. Supposed to be dynamic day but just did whatever reps and weights I felt like.

I have mixed feelings about fancy treadmills. Frankly, whenever the gym gets new ones I go through withdrawal and mourning since I'm so used to the controls and settings on the ones they have. And there are so few that allow you to program in fun speed work and stuff.
Ayy we're push press twins, ayyy coincidence. Also see you doing cleans and snatches. I'm finding them so fun lately. Do those help you with powerlifting, like speed under the bar, or do you just enjoy them?"The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

Yeah. I am not sure on these. It's touch screen so trying to get it up to speed was a struggle and I don't even do anything fancy or change speeds much. Tend to stick to the one speed or maybe two if doing some jogging. I am just doing the oly lifts for fun. Hoping to some day get snatch to at least 65 lbs but it's a challenge.
Went to the writing group this morning though didn't really write. Tried to study a little but didn't make much progress there either. Still not sure if I'll do NaNoWriMo this year since GRE test is middle of the month. Also stopped by Spirit Halloween store and got the wig I needed for my costume. Don't have a schedule yet but since the holiday is on Wednesday pretty much can guarantee that I'll have to work, just don't know which shift at this point. We can wear costumes but no masks. Previous roommate gave me a dress that's like Wednesday Addams' so got the black pig tails and am all set.
Walk to gym in the afternoon for lower power with the main lift as good morning. Did squats to warm up. On the deadlift did just to the knees and last rep did a full deadlift. Overall not bad. Now I'm hungry and don't know what to do for dinner. I keep considering ordering pizza but haven't made a final move. Hungry but trying not to go overboard though technically not trying to hit a deficit yet.
