So what's in your cabinet right now?
I currently have Talisker, Highland Park (12 year), Ardbeg 10 year, and Springbank 10 year. I just finished off a Glenlivet Nadurra a few nights ago. I also have a bottle of Famous Grouse for nights when I could go for a Rusty Nail.
For American whiskey, I currently have Elijah Craig, Knob Creek, and Dad's Hat Port-Finished Rye. Dad's Hat is made in Pennsylvania, I'm not sure how easy it is to get outside of PA. It is DELICIOUS, and has become one of my new favorites along with Talisker.

It's become a favorite of mine, although a lot of that is due to the price. It is both peated and matured in sherry casks--nicely balanced between the two. My only complaint is that it seems just a little thin.
When I first tried it, it struck me as sort of a cut-rate Talisker--I wasn't all that impressed--similar flavors, not nearly as complex. However, it grew on me fairly quickly. Talisker is my hands-down favorite, Highland Park has become my favorite "less expensive" single malt.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

I should mention that I have waffled for a long time over whether to create a thread about whiskey. It doesn't really seem to belong on a site that is dedicated to fitness. I ended up creating this thread after hijacking another thread with a comment about a bottle of Scotch in the background of another guy's picture of some equipment, so I figured I should just go ahead and create a thread. It could be a good way for some of the "non/less regulars" to interact a little more around here.
If the mods or anyone else around here really has a problem with this thread, I could certainly delete it.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #29 []---[]

How about gym equipment with favorite bottles or soon to be enjoyed glasses on it? In for pics!
These days I have a buddy who's pretty into it. Introduced me to Lagavulin a couple years ago and some other lesser known brands. Previous to that I've been a Macallan and Glenmorangie (like their 18 year for nice occasions) person mainly though I don't drink it enough to be an aficionado. I've had a lot of others. Knob is good. Have not tried that PA brand above but will look for it as I'm in Pittsburgh.▪█─────█▪ Rogue Barbell Crew #27 ▪█─────█▪

Haven't been able to "rep" many of you for a year or more...not for lack of trying.

i don't drink at all (okay maybe a glass of wine a few times a year) but i try to keep a little alcohol and a dozen or so bottles of wine in the house for guests.
I wanted to share this picture though:
please direct your attention to the ugly sweater, stocking cap, scarf and earmuffs made for the bottles. all sent to me free from Maker's Mark. i signed up for their ambassador program when i was in college and loved signing up for anything free. when i moved, i never updated my address with them, but 4 or 5 years ago they somehow found my address again because i started getting stuff from them again. it was like wrapping paper the first year so i was a little annoyed how they could find me, but now i'm so glad they did.
first was the stocking cap, then it was the ugly sweater, then it was the scarf, and this year they sent an actual headband my wife can wear to cover the ears (my head is far too big) and i was a little disappointed, until i found the little earmuffs for the bottle...
i sometimes wish i could drink alcohol (i turn beet red; it's pretty uncomfortable, body lacks the enzymes i need) just so that i can support Maker's Mark. in fact i need to replenish my dwindling bottle (thanks, dad in law)Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

IMO, this gets an early nomination for "best new thread of 2016". On spred...
Here's my current stock. Couple of Dalwhinnies, Highland Park, MaCallum (12), Lagavulin (probably my favorite), 1969 Springbank, Bruichladdich (really like), Origine, and Bowmore (could do without).

'Do you even Decanter' gentleman? Bwahahaha
I'm a noob, just started this past year when I went to a wedding and a true aficionado introduced me to Jonnie Walker Black Label. Since then I have tried Macallan (12/18yr), Glenlivet (12/15/18yr), Glenmorangie Original, Cardhu, Black Grouse, The Famous Grouse, Dewar's Scratched Cask, and the airline favorite Dewar's White Label. Out of all of them my favorite is Glenlivet 18yr (neat), flavor for days! My favorite cheap (on ice) scotch is by far Black Grouse. But I keep Glenmorangie in my decanter and will give it a single ice cube to unlock some flavors.
How do you drink your scotch poll: Ice, Water, Neat?

Well, being a Kentucky man, my liquor cabinet is usually bourbon and only bourbon. I was given a bottle of Pappy 15 this year (several years old before the Stitzer-Weller mash ran out) for Christmas which will only be poured for very special occasions. I've also got a bottle of Bookers being poured for kind of special occasions. I'm rotating between Four Roses Small Batch, Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Forrester Signature, Henry McKenna 10, and Russell's Reserve 10 for my evening nip(s).

I have a Glenrothes Alba, a Glenrothes Robur (thanks Santa), a Cardhu Special Cask, Bruichladdich (my favorite Islay), Highland Park 18 (my favorite overall, it's like caramel in a class, I'm not a fan of the 12 or 15), Glenmorangie 10, Talisker 15, Springbank 10, Balvenie 12 Doublewood.
I try to buy a new bottle every three to six months, I don't drink scotch a lot, only when I have people over really, so I find it's a good way to expand my collection slowly.

FRSB is very nice, and in my opinion one of the best bourbons in the $35 dollar range (Kentucky prices). Try the small batch too if you haven't - a different flavor profile and a little smoother and less spicy than the single barrel.
The Pappy thing is just frustrating. When I first moved back to Kentucky about 8 years ago, I could walk up to the corner liquor store and buy Pappy 15 for about $30, Pappy 20 for around $60, and Pappy 23 for $150. All were readily in stock. Over the next few years the prices started creeping up and the supply got less and less, to the point now that people camp out overnight at liquor stores when Buffalo Trace does their fall release and restaurants sell Pappy 15 for $30 a pour.
Don't get me wrong. All the Pappy are fantastic bourbons and Pappy 23 is probably the best whiskey I've ever put in my mouth, but the pricing is just out of hand and Pappy has become a status symbol now. There are way too many outstanding bourbons in the $30 to $50 range to waste time and money trying to get Pappy. I'm quite pleased to have a bottle, especially one distilled with the older and better mash bill, but unless gifted to me, I'm unlikely to replace it when it's gone.
Great selection. The only one of those I'm not a big fan of is Larceny. Not a bad bourbon, but a little overpriced in my opinion. I really like Willet Pot Still, and Buffalo Trace is my go to for Old Fashioneds and Mint Juleps because it's one of the least sweet bourbons I've ever had.
I'm down with good 'ol Turkey 101, but if you're haven't already, give some of their other products a try. Wild Turkey is putting out some good premium products, with Russell's Reserve 10 and Rare Breed being two of my favorites.──<//>─<\\>── BWTG Cluster #5 ──<//>─<\\>──

By the way, if anyone wants a nice read on the history of the Van Winkle family and the original Stitzel-Weller distillery, pick up a copy of But Always Fine Bourbon, written by Van Winkle family member Sally Van Winkle Campbell. The hardcover makes a nice coffee table/bar top book.

How much is Larceny where you're at? I can get it in PA for under $30. It's actually one of my favorites on that list, but I have a penchant for sweeter bourbons. Along those lines, the Willet is towards the bottom of my list. I still enjoy it, but I always find myself wishing it had just a hint of sweetness to round out its flavor profile.
I have the Rare Breed on my list. I went a bit wild last month (I only started collecting in December), so I levied a self-imposed ban on any new purchases until this year.
I tend to agree with you about the Pappy. I realllllllly wanted a bottle, but I wasn't willing to put much work into it. I signed up for the lottery held by PA and had my family do the same. My sister was fortunate enough to win the 15 and gave it to me as a Christmas gift. After I showed her what it sells for (she paid the MSRP of $79.99), she told me it would have been sold immediately if she knew lol.Last edited by anthony6377; 01-07-2016 at 11:53 AM.
