Same situation as you. Just ordered a Titan T2 Short (because of space issues). $259. I will add my own pully system for lat pulldown. Will cost less than $20 per my estimate.

Congrats. That's a bargain! Titan sells safety straps for that rack now, if you decide you want them later.

I wouldn't waste the money on a pulley setup for a short rack. You won't be able to get full extension unless you kneel.

I understand. If I have to do it sitting, then so be it. Can't really increase the height of my ceiling :-). I will keep looking for standalone lat pulls in craigslist.

Patience. My first lat machine was a home gym. Then I found another one that was a bit easier to us. About 6 months later I found a light-duty lat machine. About 6 months after that I found a Body Solid light-duty stack loaded pull down with seated row. It took a while, but I finally ended up with something I like and have no desire to upgrade.

In the meantime--since this is the Cheapo thread--you might be surprised what you can do with bands/surgical hoses; they cost almost nothing, take up almost no space. Between that and bent rows/dumbbell rows, I have put off thinking about getting a lat tower.

Just like bands, only tubular. I just ran a google search & found a bunch of examples. I’m on my iPad now & I don’t know how to copy & post links on it, but you could search it up if interested—they sell them right on this website. Search up Ultimate Pro Gym on BB.com for an example.

i mean, considering how much you're going to save vs a set of cheap bands; just buy some bands to get started until you find something better used

Are the benches in the OP still the best cheap option?

I'm looking to get a squat rack and a bench, dont really want to break the bank on a bench. What's the best option for the cheapest price? Like under 200 Canadian? Just need something that is safe and will work for the next 2 or 3 years.

what's your total budget right now?

I'd go online find a bar that's not bent and some weights for cheap, and then spend the rest on a decent rack. you can do plenty of work without a bench until you can save up and find a good used one locally.

Just look for a Northern Lights flat bench off Kijiji. Usually they go for ~$75, but Canadabuilder got one for $20. Get an FID in time when you can afford to upgrade.

agree on all points. i had thought about what you said about the flat bench vs the FID, but figured since most people (myself included) start with an adjustable, before they realize they should have gotten a flat first, i'd list the adjustable.

While we all dream of buying that custom built rig, or finding a solid piece of used commercial or vintage equipment to outfit your gym, many times we just want to buy something that's usable to get started.

I think the Squat Rack that's recommended the most that doesn't get bad feedback is the Powerline PPR200X

the barbell is the CAP OB-86B

Academy Sports and Outdoors 300lb Olympic Plate Set is on sale for a good price (sell the barbell on Craigslist) buy 2 and the sales of the bars should pay for most of a better barbell.

For a bench, most people only really need a flat bench and the Rogue Flat Utility Bench 2.0 is great in terms of quality and value. Most people will want to buy an adjustable bench because they think they need to do incline and decline work right off the bat. in this case, the Powerblock Sport Bench seems like the way to go.

a couple of Tractor Supply Company Horse Stall Mats is far and away the best value for flooring.

i think you can buy all this for under a grand and be set to lift for a good long time. if you have more budget, i'd spend it first on the rack (GPR378 or better, and last on the plates (just because i think most of us have access to used iron weights for cheap).

i'm more than open to discussion and corrections on the gear and what you guys think is the best entry-level setup
I agree! When started out we should focus on getting the result than that of getting fancy over the equipment, thanks for sharing the equipments

just joined this kickstarter for the fullbodybar. seems like it would give a lot of options with a trx and by itself.

Deal alert! Picked these up today, Plantronics Backbeat Fit 305 bluetooth earbuds for $17 shipped. Had originally bought a new pair but they got lost / stolen. Pretty decent sound quality, they stay in my ear extremely well, and the battery life is good for a few sessions. This is a refurb but I'm guessing just a return because someone didn't like them, looks brand new to me.

Hey guys! New to BB.com and stumbled across this forum. I'm in Kansas City and looking into picking up some weights/bar. I got a stupid cheap deal on the CAP power rack/bench combo (nothing too fancy, but was super cheap for now). My wife has done crossfit until we had our baby and I've pretty much taken a break from anything active during that time. Now we are looking at doing everything from home rather than a gym. I have friend looking at selling 255# of CAP olympic plates for $100. But didn't know if that was worth the investment or not! Thanks!
