Hi,
I'm Emiliano from Rome, Italy.
I came back to the gym around 2 years ago, after trying other sports for some time. I like to keep my body in good shape and I always keep myself busy between training and my other hobbies.
During this pandemic I started to train at home and, honestly, I never trained so intensely. I can always find the time at home, and motivation wasn't never a problem for me personally.
I'm always trying new stuff in order to expand my knowledge and stimulate my body in different ways. Recently I added resistance bands to my weekly program and I'm looking for some suggestions, programs, exercises, etc.
Is there a dedicated section, thread, or post I can read? Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks, have a nice day.

Hi, thanks for your help.
My goal is just to be in good shape, honestly. I want to develop strength and balance while keeping my weight stable. I'm not looking for massive muscle grow, just an overall athletic and functional body. Being "ripped" is a direct consequence of a good work in my experience, so I don't mind that at all.
That said... I'm 42 years old, 174 centimeters tall, my current weight is 68 kilograms. I've always been a slim wiry guy, with considerable strength and explosive power. I've always been into sports, so I'm already in decent shape, but like I said I like being busy and I like the challenge.
My current program consist in training with both dumbbells and resistance bands, for a total of 6 workouts a week (60/90 minutes each). I must say I usually don't mix up the two, each day I switch from one to the other.
- Monday (dumbbells): chest+biceps
- Tuesday (resistance bands): legs+back
- Wednesday (dumbbells): shoulders+triceps
- Thursday (resistance bands): chest+biceps
- Friday (dumbbells): legs+back
- Saturday or sunday (resistance bands) shoulders+triceps
*I do abs everytime I train, it's a must for me.
As you can see, I change muscle groups every day. I'm currently training with both dumbbells and resistance bands because:
1) I have the time. Due to Covid19 restrictions, what I do these days is work and training
2) I'm trying to see which I prefer and why
In the near future I'll have less time to train, so I'd like to change program and train 3/4 times a week, so I'm thinking about doing one week with dumbbells and one week with resistance bands. Is that good?
Thanks.

I can't give you numbers for my home training, I'm sorry. I use what I have and somehow developed my way to properly isolate muscles, which was always the hardest part for me. My goal is to almost reach failure during the last repetitions of each set and give the muscles a good squeeze while keeping the correct posture. At home you need to improvise and sometimes combine different things in order to emulate what you do at the gym.
Routine is 3 sets for each exercise, 15/20 reps per set. I sometimes do 4/5 sets and/or increase reps if I don't feel enough burn. Some days are better than others, you can see that also at the gym.
When using dumbbels at home with limited gear is somehow difficoult for me to rely on numbers, I must go by feel or like I said combine things. When using resistance bands it's exactly the same but you have a reference, at least. I started with a light band for pretty much everything and now I use a medium or heavy band for most of the exercises, so I obviously developed more strenght over time.
I would like to be able to reduce the time I need to properly stimulate muscles and do an effective home workout. In this way I could train every time I have 40/60 minutes of free time, which will be at least 3 times per week. It's a work in progress, so we'll see.

Greetings!
I am a 16 year old dude (turning 17 on January 4th 2021) who gets bullied a lot by people.. including my friends. So I turned to fitness to command respect and make me an amazing athlete. I'm 50% ectomorph and so I'm trying hard to gain weight and in the form of muscle. Pleasure to meet all of you!

There is no such thing as ectomorph let alone some % ectomoroph. If you think you are, that means you don't eat enough.
You wont' command respect by lifting weights. People might not get 'in your face' with it as much, but even being a muscle mass monster doesn't necessarily command respect.
Eat more food, eat more protein, squat and bench and overhead press and chin-up more, follow a novice routine from the workout programs section

Hey kings,
22 year old ex skinny-fat dude who jumped on the bodybuilding bandwagon during the lockdown whilst everyone else were turning into slobs. Aesthetic goals mainly, get as big and strong as naturally possible whilst keeping the BF% low. Arnie is an inspiration ofc but the old school physiques like Steve Reeves, Reg Park, Boyer Coe and Frank Zane (tons of others) really have me aiming for something like that. I'm only 8 months into lifting so still an absolute newb but the newb gains have been very fun and enjoyable to see my body transform so bloody fast! Bit a hippy so I love stuff like Alan Watts and Ekhart Tolle spiritualist-jazzy stuff. Also love nature and hiking, and mostly travelling and socialising and of course, the 'gymnasium' as 1970s Arnold puts it. Hope to meet some mad lads here as I like the community which seems to be supportive for men and women of all ages looking to improve their lives. Mostly I'm here to learn and gain wisdom from more experienced and mature members so lots to gain and hopefully lots to contribute as well. Take it EZ!

Of course you can't even dream of approaching those physiques without the same illegal drugs (and lots of them) used by them. In this hobby it's important to understand how effective (and dangerous) the illegal drugs are and how pretty much anybody you know by name is using/has used. Keep expectations grounded.

Lean
Drug-free

I finally found the introduction thread. 42 y.o woman who is tired of being a scrawny rat that dealt with a myriad of pretty bad health complications earlier this year and being immune compromised (asthma, and yes I know it's no excuse) to boot. Tired of being sore all the time, out of breath a lot, and tiredness. I am also a complete NOOB to exercise, very little muscle. Anything helps if you guys got suggestions.

If you desire to gain a little bit of weight, eat a little bit more food each day.
Go for walks at least 5 days per week and track them with a free app on your phone and increase your total distance over time.
There are a lot of things you will be able to significantly improve more easily than muscle, and I wouldn't join a gym right now

That would be a good start. For my job I already track about 2 to 2.5 miles per day as I am a janitor. Maybe upping that to 3 would be a good start. Couldn't join a gym because of lockdown anyways so no biggie there. I did find a little health tracker that I can tailor to some of my medical issues. It's more like a health diary that tracks literally everything.
And yes on the food. Full stop.
I just really need to straighten out my health. This past year has really wreaked hell on me.
Thank you!
Edit: I forgot to add that I work 5 days a week 3 hrs a day.Last edited by Sunwolf42; 12-14-2020 at 06:33 PM.

Hi, I'm Hasnain, 22, Male from Pakistan.
I'm 173cm and 75kg. I've been working out for 3 months. I'm kind of fat but I'm aiming to have abs of steel lol. I've started taking pictures of my progress daily and will be making a time-lapse after a year. Nice to meet you all.
My motivation for body-building started after I saw the anime "How heavy are the dumbbells you lift?". I loved it.
Does anyone know where I can ask about a diet plan? I want to take my weight down to the 60s line. I live in Pakistan and most of the food here is oily and overly spicy and nutritional balance is an alien concept here.Last edited by NainiCool; 12-18-2020 at 04:12 AM.

Hello
I am 5'11" and started at probably 125 pounds. I am at 165. I feel very discouraged. I have been working so hard, and have been sticking to my work-out schedule, but I feel like I am not getting anywhere. I still feel very ugly. I do not have access to barbells or a gym. I am using dumbbells and will be able to start pull ups soon. Do I need to eat more?

Hi everybody, Kevin, from Massachusetts.
55 Years, 5'-8", 148Lbs, 15%BF
4 years ago, after 35 years of relative inactivity and pretty heavy drinking (daily), I decided to give up drinking completely, which I did slowly, over a 1 year period. During that time, I also changed the way I eat, and walked about 10 miles a week.
Now, I do strength training 2-3 times per week, and I skate (Inline-skate) as much as possible.
For those of you in your 50's and older, I cannot emphasize enough what skating has done for me. (high intensity fitness skating) My core, quads, lower back, balance, agility, endurance, and even my overall physique, has never been better in my entire life, than they are now.
I had my annual physical last week and my own doctor literally told me I inspired HIM to get healthier and he actually asked me: "what would you say to my patients to inspire better health choices?"
I had no answer for him on the spot like that, but I would just say:
Better health should just come natural, once you decide that is what you really want.
If you're honest with yourself about REALLY wanting it, then the work required to achieve it will just become part of your life.
I never went into this planning any kind of body transformation, but my body has transformed in more ways than I ever thought possible, from head to toe, inside and out, and I have never felt better in 55 years, than I do now. Every single day.
It's nice to be here.

Hey all from sunny Seattle. After spending years trying to keep lean and athletic, I have decided to see if I can lean bulk at a 51. Currently have dumbbells, bench, pullup bar, dip attachment and my good ole bodyweight. Seeing how this goes. Tracking workouts on Bodyspace and would love to build a little more of a social network here.
Hope everyone is having a good start to 2021

I am a 20 year old man trying to look the best I can.
My body transformation is in the beginning stages. I am doing pull-ups every day but I need to incorporate more exercises to fully begin this process. It would be good to hear some opinions of my photos and how long it will take me to attain “skinny ripped” physique. Just to give some basic details, I am 5’10 and a quarter at 160 pounds. I participated in Cross Country and Track in high school Junior & Senior years and weighed my extreme lowest then, which was about 125 pounds. Since then I have stopped running and gained 30-35 pounds give or take. It has always been hard for me to gain weight, but I’ve gradually done it in the past 2 years.
