As with everything, reach for supplementation if it can't be covered within your diet.

I take probiotics daily. They help me with boating and I feel like I can digest things easier, especially when I have a cheat meal.

is there anything actually substantial to back this? idk anyone irl that eats things like kefir and i dont see people dropping like flies over constipation. i know im being a big antagonistic here but im merely posturing the issue that if i were to guess, more people have issues eating junk/or things they are sensitive to (interpret that how you please), than people actually not sufficiently digesting foods in general. our bodies typically know how to take care of themselves imo.

I know it might be a bit indirect but studies such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG-supplemented formula expands butyrate-producing bacterial strains in food allergic infants http://www.nature.com/ismej/journal/...j2015151a.html and Effect of the probiotic strain Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, BB-12®, on defecation frequency in healthy subjects with low defecation frequency and abdominal discomfort: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial http://journals.cambridge.org/action...07114515003347 push me in the direction of saying there is a benefit.

Beyond eating greek yogurt daily, no. There was a case in which I was taking amoxicillin for a bad sinus infection, and the greek yogurt wasn't enough. I added in Gut Health and all of my digestive issues went away. I'm not sure whether it would matter much in normal situations, though.

i have no doubt theres select benefits that marginally or exponentially effect people depending on the situation, this isnt an argument against them, however im not a fan of general recommendations. i just havent been convinced theyre pertinent enough. ideally people should just get a food allergy test and attempt to avoid things that are high on that list and go from there if theyre having issues, realistically if someone isnt having issues i have no clue why they would take them just because they dont eat enough in their diet.

I would consult a professional if you are having certain issues that need to be addressed. I had to buy a very specific kind of probiotic which had a certain type of strain in it that is usually not in other probiotics or is underdosed. If you're asking just to ask, then its a judgement call on how your body reacts to it.

This. Antibiotics obviously can't choose between good and bad bacteria. Pending the level of antibiotic taken, the minimum I would recommend following your last dose would be a 25billion cfu (colony forming units) for 2-4 weeks tapered down either to 10 or 5 billion cfu and then 1billion for maintenance if you so choose.
Yogurt is nice to eat daily and while it does contain probiotics and prebiotics, it contains about 50million. I like yogurt (but not as standalone) because it helps feed the healthy bacteria. Kefir is another good option with a far larger amount of strands than yogurt and a good product can contain upwards of 40billion cfu per 1/2c I believe.Jimmy Robinson

I hate to give the rationale of "try it for yourself" but it was just a recommendation based on my personal preference/bias on the subject so in my opinion they aren't a "scam" but forgive me for attempting to persuade the OP without a concrete example of why they should.

[QUOTE=The Solution;1408899653]i do GY everyday too. i still take Gut Health (Probiotic) just for an extra aid on a healthy digestive tract and a healthy immune system. Some benefits you can get from probiotics.[/QUOTE
This, I try to eat some greek yogurt every day, I would say that's enough. However I do have some on hand, if I eat a ton of food or am taking an antibiotic, it's good to supplement with some cultures. I've had a few month long runs of antibiotics in my life (recently ended one actually), after a day or two my gut just feels terrible and a probiotics have seemed to help a bit in the past.Engineering Master Race

Another good point. Not sure if it's 95% on the dot, but you are certainly not receiving 100% of cfu the label is claiming in most scenarios. Process of manufacturing is quite important in the survival, strand to color of bottle choice, powder or pill, glass or plastic, all of these things factor in.
