actually have boltons react in awe at seeing the first giant south of the wall in hundreds of years and appropriately chit themselves, lose unit cohesion
have sansa tell jon about the vale coming and have them charge as soon as rickon dies, forcing boltons to retreat into the castle
have jon launch a sneak attack using the tunnels of winterfell, actually showing that the starks own winterfell and know it's secrets
meanwhile wun wun and vale knights break down the gate with a battering ram and leather bubble like the wildings used at the wall to protect themselves from arrows and chit
ghost, jon, and tormund faceoff against ramsay, smalljon and his hounds in the godswood
off the top of my head

Why are we spoiler tagging that chit? It's all speculation no? lol
Someone posted it a while back but basically it's passed down to first born son and down his line then daughters IIRC. Uncles only come into play if all the kids are dead.

lmao this is already better than what we got
-wall of bodies is somehow built (despite the fighting happening all over.. Everyone who is dead or wounded climbed onto one another to form it)
-nobody notices the shield wall soldiers moving in + the wall of bodies at their back
-Wun Wun tears a dude in half instead of using the dude as a weapon
-Wun Wun decides to swat at spears all day because he forgot to bring a weapon
-Ramsay decides to use a bow when Jon is charging instead of his daggers for some reason
-Jon has a fukkin shield bubble around him preventing arrows from hitting him - but instead encircling him + hitting his horse
-why didn't the Wildlings do what the Scots did in Braveheart? They knew that Ramsay had the cavalry advantage but they didn't make a single spear to prop up against them?
-Ramsay talks about using his hounds then leaves them in their cages instead
EDIT: Why the fukk didn't it show the Mormont warriors wrecking house? We had a nice long scene and Lyanna said that each Mormont is worth 10 men - why not show them off a little? Even if its an exaggeration, they could've taken on a few at a time or something?Last edited by SpicyCurrie; 06-22-2016 at 12:27 PM.
PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.

I swear some of you didn't even watch the episode...
We need like a remedial GOT thread for the superior writer group apparently we have here on the misc.

There was a sneaky nod to house Mormont's fighters at the end where Jon Snow 1v1's Ramsay. The shield Jon uses to block Ramsay's arrows had a Mormont sigil, meaning at least one of those 60 Mormonts was tough enough to live all the way up to Winterfell and saved Jon's ass by bringing his shield there.
Less thunder in mouth, more lightning in hand.

It would have been cool to see, but it happened
That shield that Jon used to block Ramsays arrows means a Mormont soldier survived the entire battle, beasted enough to keep a hold of his shield, and kept his wits about him all the way to make it into Winterfells walls. His shield then saved Jons life. Jon owes the Mormons his life IMO.
EDIT: Pyat Pree above me

The battle was going too quick to notice anyone but the characters we already knew. We didn't know what any of those Mormonts looked like so how can you expect to see them on the battlefield? You didn't even notice their shield when a main character like Jon was holding it in a very specific scene, no way you'd notice in the middle of that chit show.

my bad got side tracked with work...
1. Why are we acting like Giants are like fuking King Kong? We've seen a lot of people at this point see Giants and be a little taken back but nobody has totally chit themselves. Dragons are a lot more poop inducing and we've seen people stand up to them. Why would a giant suddenly make an army of 5000 men lose their chit?
2. Once again if Sansa told Jon about the Vale coming it would fuk up her plans which is to ensure the odds are in favor of Ramsey getting killed. Ramsey going into Winterfell with all his troops would lead to a lot more dead than we saw out there. Don't forget Ramsey probably took out half his army shooting arrows at both sides.
3. So you want to do what Theon did back in season 2? How original. Despite what Ramsey and 20 good men did to Stannis and his army or what Theon did in season 2 it's different to take over a castle with 5000 men inside. Don't forget Robb Stark had Roose send Ramsey and his people to re-claim Winterfell from Theon, you don't think he told him about the tunnels?
4. So now you want to steal from Season 4? Except this time with Vale soldiers instead of wildlings?
5. lol wut? Why the godswood? So Bran can beat off to the fight? Would you have them come at each other at the same time similar to this...
?
And i love how you think it would cost less to do all that chit. Instead of using open field as their battle you'd have the open field, Winterfell and the destruction that would result in that, the "secret tunnels", add Ghost for more CGI action, battle dogs and a scene at the Godswood
But hey i'll give you an A for effort even you did essentially steal from prior episodes.

For those wondering what happened to Ghost, it came down between him or Wun-wun due to budgetary restraints during the battle. Personally, I'm glad Ghost was relieved of that duty because that was one less possible RIP to worry about.

That's assuming Cersei manages to kill Tommen and the High Sparrow because the latter will surely try to make a grab for power, and he would have the people's support in King's Landing.
Didn't even pay attention amidst the action, but that is pretty cool to think about. I'll have to keep an eye out for any glimmers of Bear Shields during a rewatch, but I'd like to see at some point during the aftermath we get to see Lyanna leading back some badass Mormonts with Bolton heads on spikes.
For reference, here's a picture that shows what their soldiers looked like:
Note the bear pelt, so we got some Berserkers over here for sure to make it that far. Shield or not, anyone would have had to be a superb fighter to make it to Winterfell.
Since the majority of Jon's forces were still Wildlings, I really enjoyed the dichotomy between them and a full fledged army. Just little things like the lack of shields, which we might recognize as something they should have used, were a reminder that is simply not how the Wildling do. The planning scene was another insight their fighting culture that makes sense of the exclusion of shields/heavy armor or Wun-wun not bringing a weapon/armor. They're not familiar with "modern" tactics of warfare, let alone full pitched battles, because what they know is raiding and running in full tilt without encumberance, not flank maneuvers, phalanxes, and arrow volleys.
How often were the Wildlings always saying they could kick the Southerners' asses because they have endured hardships north of the wall, only to get a rude awakening when they're not fighting farmhands or fighting in interrupted enemy formations? That's not to say them going in unprepared wasn't foolish, but in their minds they thought they could crash through the Boltons and tear their balls off, which they probably could have without that phalanx.
It says something about all of the Stark forces because even the best soldiers had to perform even better against not only superior numbers, but superior technology and tactics.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die

lol why are people unhappy with this last episode? Just lol at people hardcore analyzing the writing, it was great. Just an hour of battle and killing, it was exactly what the show needed after the 3-4 latest snoozefest episodes. But but, why wouldn't Sansa tell Jon, why didn't Rickon run in a zig zag? Who the **** cares... It was an hour of battle and epic killing.
