    250g protein a day - do i need BCAA'S

As the title says. Ive heard 2 opposing sides from 2 people that seem to be seeing good results in the gym

1 - Taking BCAA's is a waste of time if you have 250g of protein a day
2 - Taking BCAA's is absolutely essential no matter how much protein you use.

Additional BCAAs won't help you much if you're getting that much protein. Heck, if you're trying to bulk you've already far exceeded the amount of extra protein that will benefit you.

In most cases, extra BCAAs via supplementation will not benefit you much

You also don't need that much protein...

Seems like you're overdoing it on the protein. 250 of protein would be sufficient for a man who is around 250lbs..also BCAAS are only beneficial if training fasted

In the supplement industry, bcaa's are referred to as the cherry on top. If you can get a few people to by them, it's just the cherry on top.

if you are 175 pounds and intaking 250g of protein. You are already getting far more than enough protein than you need.
Adding more BCAA's which are free form amino acids and protein would not be necessary.

Try not to appeal to physique.

Some people can get great results in the gym doing some pretty dumb things.

At that much protein, I doubt BCAAs would offer much benefit for the amount they cost. Marginal gains/progress.

Now, with that being said. If you, for some reason, are chronically dehydrated, and while still consuming 250g of protein... you might benefit from BCAAs if it facilitates adequate hydration. So you'd be benefiting from them in a round about way - if that makes sense.

If your body weight listed is accurate and you are taking in roughly 250g's of protein then I would say taking additional BCAA's would not be necessary as you should be getting plenty from the high protein intake. Is there a specific reason you are taking in that much protein?

Given adequate protein intake and traditional weight training no you don't need supplemental BCAAs.

On if you go more than 5-6 hours at a time without food.. a bolus dose of aminos inbetween would be ideal.. or if you train fasted.

You shouldn't need to supplement BCAAs with that amount of protein consumption. It wouldn't hurt, but you don't need to

BCAAs are definitely not essential. I would say that you would be good without them. BCAAs are one of those types of products that are very hit and miss.

OP, I'd say your definitely good to hold off on them if you're consuming that much protein.

I tend to recommend BCAA products to those who are training fasted in the mornings, or those who are deep into a cutting phase when their calories may be low.

Best of luck on the BULK!

Only benefit I see you having with them would be first thing in the more after you've gone all night in a 6-8 hour fasting state. They absorb quickly into your system as you're making meal #1 then will have to break down to that lowest form over a few hours.

Pretty much what has been said. I do like to use bcaa though. I probably don'tn need them as I use them, but I like to keep them in.

I'm a big protein eater by nature. I really only need about 180-200 grams per day but I tend to have to work to only get 200-215. I still use bcaa. I probably don't need them but I have a sv in the morning upon rising and then eat about an hour later. I'll also have about 10 grams intra workout. When I start dieting, I'll increase my servings by 1 or 2 more.

don't understand the BCAAs when dieting advice since BCAAs aren't some calorie free substitute for protein

if you're dieting and need extra amino acids, use a low calorie whey or whey isolate mixed in water and you'll be better off

Because you get fewer calories for maintaining the same level of leucine.

I guess...for me, the small, almost negligible difference in calories to achieve that purpose versus just taking in complete proteins in the form of something like an isolate isn't really worth it

Appreciate the feedback. I think il just save these for when i cut and dont consume as much protein.

Im on 3450 calories a day ATM so I'm just eating as much as i can (Clean food)
I think you've got a few conceptions going on here..

You don't need that much protein (Unless you're doing this out of preference) and you'd need more protein on a cut than on a bulk for muscle retention.

Even on a cut, I still wouldn't get BCAAs. I get enough from daily intake anyway.

I believe the protocol is at least 3g of leucine multiple times per day. The calorie difference becomes more significant when you have to compare, say, 3 doses of BCAAs to 3 protein shakes.

You no.. I took that approach last contest prep and things didn't work out as well. I use to heavily rely on aminos over calories and I felt fat stripped off much easier. It could have been something different though.. there are so many variables in contest prep.
