What is bulking?
Oh wait that's what I did all year long ... it lead to the condition I call fat ass!!!!!!
Personally I am on forever cut just because well yeah I'm fat. If I can ever get my diet in control I wouldn't do the bulk or what ever you wanna call it just so I can cut again in the spring it just sounds so unhealthy and counter productive IMO. Increase the calories moderately to 10-15% over maintenance and press on!Come follow my journey on IG @1armlifts

Just picked up some more last night. I usually eat mine straight baked - no toppings, but once in a while just a touch (3-5g) of Kerrygold Irish butter, or a little honey. I'm gonna try that coconut oil trick tomorrow after calves & hammies. Sounds great!

My favorite bulking food has got to be steak and sweet potatoes splash a little cinnamon + sugar free marshmellows ! If it was so damn expensive i'd probably probably eat that for dinner everday! STEAKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Last OFFSEASON the heaviest I got was 212 at 6 percent bf. I had to really suck down to make 198 which was top of light heavies. If that's getting fat, you win. I was actually eating the most sushi the last 6 weeks of prep to keep from losing muscle. If you want to hire me I'll teach you the rationale of my methods.

- Dirty bulk?
Yes, done it before and put on 30 lbs. But then had to cut hard to get back down leaner, but keep the muscle mass. Ended up sacrificing alot of muscle. Also, extremely hard to go back to eating clean and cut.
- Clean bulk?
Possible and tried it and put on about 15 lbs, but so dang tough to not go dirty.
- How much is too much?
That's a toss up for each and every person. But personally think if you go up more than 3% body fat then it's too much! I speak from experience.
- Fat/lean muscle gain ratios?
Ideally would want 10% or less fat gains and 90% muscle, but that's like asking for a unicorn.
- What did your most effective bulk look like?
Added 15 lbs and only 1/3 was fat. And yes it was a clean bulk in which I had tons of carbs, but majority all complex carbs and extremely little fat or simple carbs.
- Should you EVER bulk?
If you feel you're too small and want to add mass quickly, but highly recommend clean bulks for ease of cutting after.
- What kind of caloric surplus do you follow?
750-1000 calories above, then have a high day where it's about 1500 calories above.
- Supplements during a bulk?
Carbotein, JetMass, Mass Gainer (if you aren't eating enough or want extra calories), multis, D3.

Love the answers in here. Let's keep them coming. IMO once you get past that big initial increase in mass when you first start lifting, if you can gain 3 to 5 pounds of QUALITY muscle in a year you are doing great. Just go to the supermarket and buy 5 pouns of red meat. Imagine adding that to your body. That's quite a bit of muscle. String together a bunch of years where you do that in a row, and you are going to be a beast. Patience and discipline are the keys.

lol... I've been there too... =(
Not all, some are just mere mortals... EO is just a freak
I'm going to assume that by thinking just getting your BF% down will win you a pro card, you have never really followed Bodybuilding, or maybe you just watch all the new first year organizations that pass out pro cards because there are 3 people competing in a class...
EO competes in big national level NPC shows and does very very well, if he wanted to win a Pro card at a small show he could easily do it, but why not go up against the best or the best ?

i have followed his FB page, and his workout journal before which he linked me to in a previous promo. I have followed bodybuilding for years, many NPC show winners if they had a bodyfat scan by a hydrostatic test, dexa, or bodpod would not come back around 3%. the winners who turned pro this year at major pro-card shows this year were not 3% light heavy weights for example:
kevin has a leaner front than this guy above but he turned pro vs a show that was ran over 3 days with over 40 in his class
kevin is leaner than this guy who is not 3% and he won his procard at nationals in chicago

No disrespect but you shouldn't make comments like that without knowing someone. I have zero desire to be a pro. Never have, never will. I have never even competed in a pro qualifier. I competed as a fun hobby and a way to promote my business. I made a personal choice a long time ago that there are things I am just not willing to do to take it to the next level. And even if I did I honestly do not think I have the genetics it takes to be a pro.

Abd yes, admittedly I exaggerated on my bf level. I never actually measured. I was making a point against your uneducated comment that I was eating all that sushi and getting fat while using the "I'm bulking" excuse. When in fact I was eating all that sushi and stage ready. I am not sure if I said something at some point to tick you off. If so I apologize. Forgive me. In the interest of keeping this thread going why don't you post pics of the results of your last "bulk" and "cut"? You seem to really follow bodybuilding and I assume you are a seasoned competitor. Thanks in advance for sharing and telling us how you advanced to your elite level.

i was never down talking you 3% seemed very low, and judging by your avatar your front was leaner than those who won their pro-cards this year on the national stage. meaning you would of stood a good chance going toe to toe with them on the elite stage. You never said anything to tick me off, i have seen your success with yourself and your clients, i was just trying to say that from your avatar you have those guys beat who won their pro-cards. you may not be interested in reaching the pro level or doing a pro qualifier but you have the effort to do so, why not get it? Gat, your clients, and your friends would all support and back you through the process.
while that may be hard to admit, your head is in the right place at your age and your focus on health and staying healthy in the long run. a great decision many gym goers do not focus on. its sad to see the new generation pushing drugs and wanting to get on an elite stage in thirty years their body may say otherwise.

-Dirty bulk?
-Clean bulk?
I've never done a dirty bulk personally. Currently riding the gain train 9 months into my first bulk starting near the beginning of this year. I dropped down from 213 pounds at the end of my senior year of high school (I guess I was dirty bulking for the first 17 years of my life) to around 165 and ultimately realized I was way too skinny around Christmas time last year. I've been clean bulking since February and have gone from 157 to 181 currently.
-How much is too much?
I'll stop whenever I start to feel "fat" again
-Fat/lean muscle gain ratios?
I wasn't super concerned about this since this has been my first bulk, but in the future I plan to aim for 2 lbs/month gained with hopefully around 40-50% of that being muscle
-What did your most effective bulk look like? See progress pics at bottom from my current bulk
-Should you EVER bulk?
Definitely yes. I started this bulk eating at maintenance and made some small gains, but once getting on a steady caloric surplus I have been substantially improving all lifts
-What kind of caloric surplus do you follow?
Aiming for 2-3 lbs per month gain so a surplus of ~250-300 cals per day
-Supplements during a bulk?
Nothing special, just protein powder (PES Select), multivitamin, and pre-workout (have used Cellucor C4, PES High Volume for Stim Free, BSN NO-Xplode, and just got GAT PMP yesterday)

Thanks for the knowledge EO - we know you know what you're doing and it's obvious the amount of knowledge you have to back it up. The amount of sharing for FREE that you do is a benefit to the forums, and I appreciate your honest input and respect your opinion.
Thank you to EVERYONE who participated in this discussion!! The debate is what I was looking for, and will post a winner later today!!
