Reaching for sky with Blue Star Nutraceuticals

I donít know who runs the promo on Blue Starís Facebook page but a big thanks for picking me as one of the two lucky winners. The others products I have tried from Blue Star are Aminofast, Chocolate Covered Banana Whey Smooth (one of my favorite), Vanilla Iso-Smooth and Glycodrive.

About Me: Iím a father of two young boys, one is in the second grade and the other just started kindergarten, so time is very limited when your life revolve around these boys. I worked in the financial field for 7 years before make the transition to work for the government last winter. I enjoy MMA, college (University of Arkansas Class of 2002) and pro football, tennis and of course weightlifting. When you put ribs, cinnamon rolls, donuts and cheesecake in front of me you better not turn your back because it will be gone in a heartbeat.

Lifting/Sports background: Iíve always been active since youth. I played basketball, football, and tennis growing up. Football is what lead me to lifting weights since my teen years. I carried it on throughout college and now well into my adult life. Iíve always been a high volume guy doing upper body then lower body splits. To be honest I never lifted heavy before because of the high volume method. In late 2012, I tore my Achilles playing basketball in a church league. For the majority of 2013 I spent my time rehabbing and getting back to walking again. During this time I balloon up quite a bit getting as high as 210 lbs all fat of course and Iím sure some water weight. It was during this downtime is when I did a lot of research and found out about HIIT, lifting heavy, meal prep, bulking and cutting. So February 2014, I decided to start this journey so here I am.

Music motivation: My music will be a bunch of bands nobody has probably ever heard of. Itís most rock and roll with a great message if youíll listen carefully to the lyrics. Itís mostly comprise of Christian rock band so youíll be seeing a lot of Thousand Foot Krutch, RED, Project 86, P.O.D, Flyleaf and many more. Occasionally Iíll listen to Christian rap.

Goals for this log: Well Iím cutting slowly while everybody is probably bulking. I decided to do this so I donít have to fight over the equipment. My goals is to lose some more weight because my clothes are getting tight and the wife doesnít like me being ďbulkyĒ. I will see how I react to Blue Star supplements and journal my experiences to see if there are any side effects. I'll be journaling my recovery, effectiveness of said items, and taste.

Interests: Iím not going to be competing in any shows any soon or in the future. I now train for obstacle courses like Warrior Dash, Spartan, and Conquer the Gauntlet. Huge fan of Jamie Eason, Kris Gethin, Jim Stoppani, Arnold, Nikki Walter, Pamela Jean Noble and Annette De La Rosa.

Workout split: Iím using Jim Stoppaniís Shortcut to Shred
    Monday: Rest
    Tuesday: Shoulders/Calves
    Wednesday: Back/Biceps
    Thursday: Chest/Triceps
    Friday: Shoulders/Calves
    Saturday: Back/Biceps
    Sunday: Chest/Triceps

Legs every day. HIIT 2-3 times a week.

I donít know what my PR are for the big three as Iíve never tested them.

Measurements: I have no earthly idea. I wear a size 33 pants lulz. I wear a size medium shirt if that helps only because it makes me look buff. I'm 5'10 and somewhere between 185-190 lbs.

Nutrition: TDEE is 1900 calories, Carbs 40%, Protein 40%, Fat 20%
For this log Iím going to avoid IIFYM. Iím probably going to do a lot of meal prep involving chicken, rice, and broccoli so this might get old and it feels like Iím repeating myself.

Other supplements:Fish oil, creatine, protein, multivitamins, bcaa, ZMA

    PPK claims:
P.P.K.ô is perfectly engineered to be the only single serving pre-workout supplement that provides the research studied doses to get you extra plates, extra reps, and extra sets. And with the pumps youíll have, youíll look good doing them.
    Lift More Lift Longer
P.P.K. is fueled with clinically researched ingredients to crank-up energy levels, maximize muscle pumps, boost power, increase strength, and dial-in focus. Youíll lift more and youíll lift longer. But most importantly Ė your lifts will matter
The core ingredients in P.P.K. are clinically validated on human test subjects, which is important since most companies mislead you by promising results solely on animal research. What's worse, they don't use the clinically validated dose in their formula! The results found from the core ingredients in P.P.K. have been shown to:
    ē Increase Energy and Focus
    ē Improve Power and Performance
    ē Delay Time to Fatigue
ē Increase Muscle Cell Hydration and Volumization
    ē Increase Maximal Strength
    ē Increase Endurance

Power XD claims: MIND-BLOWINGLY FAST RESULTS
Power XD skyrockets your strength, power, lean muscle, and endurance - quickly, safely, and naturally. Your results will begin to show in as little as seven days.
    MORE MUSCLE PURE POWER
Power XD supercharges your ATP, the major energy source you use when you're lifting weights and doing high intensity workouts. You'll lift longer, and youíll lift heavier.

First impression: I love the simple design. Itís easy on the eyes and also love the fact the protein is produced in a cGMP facility and third party tested.
Get sub this is going to be a fun log filled with food porn, flex Friday pictures, and lulz.

Here is the picture of the stack I'm going to run:

Is it weird to smell the Glycodrive capsule before taking it due to the fenugreek smell?

    10/31/2015 Ė Chest, triceps, and abs - Day 1

Recovery/Mood Well been deloading all week because the wife has been in Seattle for work so between work and being a single dad for a week it wasn't too bad. Getting to sleep in all week has been nice but at the same time haven't been able to hit the gym in the evening because of homework with both boys and tennis practice.

Barbell bench and dumbbell set up on bench
    Set #1: 155x11; 40x16
    Set #2: 185x11; 40x12

    Target: 9-11

    cable crunch
    Set #1: 125x15
    Set #2: 140x12
    Set #3: 155x10
    Target: failure

    plank

    Total weights lifted: 20,505 lbs
Total workout time: 1 hour 15 minutes
    Total cardio time: 0 minutes
    Grade: 9/10

Summary: Well I was stoked to be back in the gym. I used the mimimum recommeded amount of 10 ounces of water for PPK. I took it about 30 minutes before working out. Started getting the tingles in my ears then on my cheeks then right below my lips. It went away but the ears were still tingling. The pink lemonade was delicious. Energy was good and pump started really early during the second set of bench. Pump was great my forearm were screaming. Felt like could have done more with bench and goblet squat. Overall a really great workout and PPK has lived up to the hype. Love the energy, pump and focus which to me is the strongest aspect of the preworkout.

    Midafternoon:
Up protein bar - sugar cookies

    Evening:
1 scoop of Whey smooth with almond milk 6 ounces
    1 pill of vitality

No issue with mixability. The taste was amazing. What I like about PPK is that it taste clean. It doesn't have the chemical aftertaste or tartness found in other preworkout and the focus is off the chart. I can't believe I accomplish as much as I did in a short period of time.

For me personally I get a taste of a vanilla cupcake with a hint of frosting, however its not too sweet.

Solid work man and great start to the log. Pumps are real with PPK and glad to hear the tingly feeling didn't bother you.

    11/1/2015 Ė Back and Biceps - Day 2

Recovery/Mood Well the good part about daylight savings time is that I stayed up later than normal but also got some good rest. The bad news is that it was bright and it was only six o'clock. So in reality it even out at the end. Had some good DOMS in my chest but woke up feeling pretty good.

    Set #1: 115x11; 12
    Set #2: 135x11; 10
    Set #3: 155x10; 12
    Set #4: 155x9; 14
    Target: 9-11

two dumbbell row & jump squat
    Set #1: 45x10; 20
    Set #2: 45x10; 15
    Set #3: 45x11; 14

    Set #3: 150x9; 1 minute on 7.7

    Set#2: 60x11; 45x10
    Set#3: 60x10; 45x10

    50x6
    40x5

    20x5
    10x10

    Spider curl and inverted row
    Set#1: 40x12; bwx10
    Set#2: 50x10; bwx8
    Set#3: 50x10; bwx8
    Target: 9-11

    Total weights lifted: 19,090 lbs
Total workout time: 1 hour 21 minutes
    Total cardio time: 0 minutes
    Grade: 9/10

Summary: I down my PPK and was ready to go. I used the maximum recommended amount and have to say I think it was a little water down. It's still good but I will use less water next time. The blueprint kinda sucks to be honest with you. I can't believe deadlift isn't even there on back down and it was my fault I forgot about it. Well anyways the workout was great. I was sweating after the second set of box jump. Again my favorite part about PPK is the focus aspect. It's like I blocked everything out and in the zone. Energy level was solid throughout the session and pump was great especially during curl. Run the rack made my biceps scream like crazy.

Shoe took the words out of my mouth. It taste like a vanilla cupcake with the frosty. It's not to sweet but you do get a slight sweetness in it.

Day two on it and really enjoying it. Taste great, pumps are great, solid energy and focus is on point. I would have to put it there as my top 3 with Nitraflex and Wreckage knocking Max Out of my top 3. I opened up chocolate sin iso-smooth tonight and will report back later.

Thanks guys. Iso-Smooth Vanilla Dream was not sweet enough for my preference. Whey Smooth Vanilla Cupcake sounds much better for my taste in vanilla flavoring.

    11/3/2015 Cardio Ė HIIT Day 3

Recovery/Mood: My legs were exhausted from the last couple of days. Sleep has been pretty good. The boys have been in their own bed so no waking up in the middle of the night when they crawl in bed. Also I havenít gotten up to pee in the middle of the night in a while so that was a big plus.

trap bar deadlift & box jump

    Grade: 8/10

Summary: I decided to try PPK on cardio to see if It would provide the energy needed. Got the tingles around my eyebrows. The instructions said to not use within five hours of bed time and I usually go to bed around 9:30 -10:00. I used 11 ounces of water and drank it around 4:30. Again the pumps were great. Man I know this would hurt doing squat because I could feel tightness in my quads and hammies. A nice clean energy throughout the workout with no crash. Legs and arms were dead by the time I did barbell deadlift. My forearms were screaming during farmers walk. Really love this preworkout and found out yesterday PPK is coming out with pineapple mango and cherry limeade.

ditto with what papi said about the pink lemonade flavoring on PPK...it is OUTSTANDING!

I can't wait to try the pineapple mango flavor. Next to Lemonade, pineapple is my favorite flavor for supplements.

    11/3/2015 Shoulders - Day 4

Recovery/Mood: Had a decent night of sleep. I woke up right before my alarm went off because I had to pee. Had some DOMS in my calves and hammies but was in a good mood going into the gym because shoulders is my favorite muscles to work.

Summary: I love shoulder days. I didn’t get a couple of shoulder exercise that I really wanted to do. Cardio is killing me. Took PowerXD with PPK and strength seems to be really good. I think I found the sweet spot to be about 10 ounces of water. I’m going to try mixing it with carbonated water to see how that taste. Run the rack is a killer. I really wanted more volume but was please with what I accomplish. PPK is really a versatile preworkout. A true once scoop preworkout is what I like and this fits the bill.

    Evening:
    1 vitality
1 scoop Iso-Smooth with 8 ounces of almond milk

    Blue Star products review:

Vanilla cupcake whey smooth: I found the sweet spot to be with 6 ounces of almond milk. I tried water and while that is good I prefer it with almond milk. Like I said it reminds me of a vanilla cupcake without the frosting. A slight hint of sweetness that isn’t overpowering.

Chocolate sin iso-smoth:I couldn’t find a comparison to this until last night. It reminds me of Nestle’s chocolate the 25% less sugar version. I tried it with water and almond milk and in my opinion I think it taste best with 8 ounces of almond milk. I will buy some cashew milk and see how that turns out.

Vitality:Well it doesn’t have a funny smell and the pill size is similar to Glycodrive. I like that you have to take one pill where the last couple of vitamins I took it smells awful or you had to take more than one pill

Glycodrive:I absolutely love taking this product right before pizza or heavy carbs meals. It’s like my stomach is sucked in so I can’t feel the food sitting in my belly. No bad smell no bad side effects just makes you happy you can have your carbs and not feel guilty about it.

PPK: Well the pink lemonade is delicious. It’s like sipping on a drink right after you are done mowing the lawn. Very clean tasting for a product that has glycerol. Glycerol mixes up nicely where you don’t have them on the side of the shaker bottle or sitting at the bottom. Great pumps, nice clean energy and a true one scoop product.

Good luck there. I know a few people who go there and it's to much for them. Different levels of their programs. Very high intensity for cardio, I would up your calories if you use them, you will burn it.

It was fun but rough. Will post up results from that later today. Going to be out of pocket most of the day. BTW, picked up some L & L cookies (snickerdoodle) yesterday. I thought it was pretty good.

Total workout time: 1 hour 28 minutes
    Total cardio time: 3 minutes

Summary: Felt good but a little sluggish. PPK did another good job of providing the energy even though I was not feeling great. I wasnít sweating as much as I have for the last few workouts. Incline numbers are down from when I was bulking so lost some strength during this cut. Usually go for at least a minute on all the cardio accerlation workout but couldnít muster much. Iím out of cardio shake for sure. PPK is a very good pre as Iíve been on a stim break the last month with the exception of taking a Xyscience energy drink (it was mango guava) so I had to try it.

With the frequency of the workouts and the volume, I would imagine you are going to have low energy days. That day off on Monday is going to turn into your favorite day of the week (recovery).
