    Fat Loss or Muscle Gain

    Hi Fellow Lifters,

Been a member of BB.com since 2013, and finally decided to bring a question before your collected knowledge. I'm about to begin a new training program that aks in it's Nutrition section whether I want to gain muscle or do fat loss.

My stats: 6ft 1in, 181 lbs. and based on various tests I would say about 16-17% Body Fat.

Goal is to get to 10-12% so I have a nicely defined abdominal region, not crazy but you know it's there. Nutrition is in check in terms of food choices.

My question is for my height, stats, goals, and weight should I be pushing for muscle gains or fat loss?

    Your answers are appreciated.

Hey man I will just reproduce what I have been reading around here. People usually cut until <15% before bulking. If you bulk on higher BFs you might end up getting too fat and then you'll need to cut drastically putting your muscle gains at risk.. If I had your BF% I would cut a bit more to 12-15 and then try a lean bulk.

You're tall and not very heavy. Are you sure about your BF?

What AndreSerra said. You'll be better off cutting if you sitting at 16-17% bodyfat. You don't want to bulk and then get fatter, it will then become harder to lose that fat in the future. So my advice is to cut to 10% bodyfat then leanbulk to 15%.

stay at a caloric maintenance only eating enough that you're body needs, you can find this using a calorie calc. so you dont gain weight, and add about 15 minutes of cardio a day in for steady fat loss.
