That other bar I have behind in the first set of photos is a Russian bar (collars included) I bought 30 years ago. It has been imported from Russia (ex URSS). The information note was in cyrillics :-)
This bar was my first weighlifting bar. I'll post information about it during next winter.
Look forward to it. Sounds really interesting....

I've restored the old one with white alcohol vinegar (rust), a plastic brush, wd40 and 3/1 vaseline oil (in the collars).
I clean my bar after every training session with plastic brush, wd40 and a lint-free cloth. Every other month I add a few drop of vaseline oil in the collars. That's all.
I've never used the Eleiko metal bristle brush.

Some say Eleiko quality has deteriorated. I disagree. Their weightlifting bars are still made in Suede (I'm note sure for the XF bars). And these same bars will be used during the next IWF world weightlifting championship in Houston.
The XF Bar is made in Sweden too for sure. All competition equipment is also made in Sweden, and many other items too. The XF plates are made outside Sweden (assume China but I have no confirmation of exactly where, although I did have a discussion with a Manager at Eleiko about the fact they are made outside of Sweden), i´m not 100% sure about the Eleiko Sport Training plates but I think they are made outside.

I had the XF plates and I thought they were very good, no smell whatsoever (which was a big concern for me as my gym is such a small space and integrated into my office) and seemed bombproof, they had more bounce than the Training plates - The XF plates (and Sport Training) sit ever so slightly looser on the bar than the Training/Competition plates. I really liked them and was impressed by them, all round, especially considering the low price of them (comparatively speaking, nothing Eleiko is "low priced" - lol).

I have 2 of those Eleiko brushes :-) They look identical but they both have different logos, one has "IRONSIDE" logo and the other I can't put my hand on now, but I think it was "PRIMAT" or something like that. It´s a little bit silly but I remember being disappointed when I unpacked and took the brush out and it didn´t have Eleiko branding - It seemed strange to me that they don't include a branded brush.

Swedish Steel Supplier & The Eleiko Barbell

Eleiko Barbell steel is supplied by OVAKO who have been in the steel business over 300 years!

Eleiko produce around 100 barbells per week, one guy does all the knurling and another assembles the sleeves.....

Some interesting information in this attached 2 page document.

I had to modify the PDF to get it to post at attachments - You can download the original PDF here - http://www.ovako.com/pagefiles/4929/ovako_cs_eleiko.pdf

............my first Eleiko Barbell set bought in 1969, we don't use the plates anymore, but the bar lying in front has been used everyday since 1969, the bar with the weights on it was the York competition bar used in the 1984 Olympics.

Ken Patera getting set to clean and press 229k/505# for a US Record July 23,1972, notice the collars are reversed in order to be able to hold the weights on.

Finally my Eleiko 50k/110# plates that we used from 1976 until 1981 when they were declared not official.

    NICE!

The vintage 2.5 is class... I´ve seen some of those before that were refurbed some time ago by ProteinandIron - He did them into yellow and blue. I have pictures somewhere, I think they had their own thread for the full refurb - Was a great job!

I've been waiting 46 years old to bought my first (used) Eleiko bar, and 48 years for a brand new one. There is something special about these bars.
    You will !

Look at the barbell oscillation when Ekaterina rack the bar. This is Eleiko.

    Nice.

An image of the equipment to be used at the championships...

Note the lower left 25kg plates ... The Houston logos must have been photoshopped on, that´s an old style disc

Bit surprised they are only giving 2 pairs of 25s with this "complete set", i´d be disappointed with that.

    Smile Curl Bar Arrived

My new curl bar arrived as expected. Just out of the box, i´m immediately impressed!

I had the 10.5kg curl bar before which I sold recently when I decided to upgrade to this later 12kg model. This 12kg model just outshines the 10.5kg model, only just, but it is noticeably better - I´m glad I upgraded. The knurl is slightly more aggressive and the bends on the bar are slightly more deep (certainly so on the inner knurls) which is better for feel imo - I just did a couple of curls to try it out and it feels very nice to use. Cant wait to hit my arms properly with it later

It´s slightly longer than the 10.5kg model, on the sleeves and between the sleeves, so it will take more plates than the 10.5kg model (not that this matters to me, but it might to some if they use thick plates and really want to load it up). It´s 1320mm overall compared to 1200 of the 10.5kg model - the sleeves are 238mm on the 12kg and 189mm on the 10.5kg - Inside the sleeves of the 12kg is 826mm, and 777 on the 10.5kg.

The 10.5kg model was not made in Sweden, this 12kg model is - That accounts for the knurl difference as this 12kg model feels very Eleiko in the knurl whilst the 10.5kg was a little bit dull for my taste - The 10.5kg was good, don't get me wrong, but there is a noticeable difference when comparing the two. The sleeves are nicely ribbed, similar to a Training Bar - The 10.5kg model did have ribbed sleeves too, but like the knurl, they were duller. Both the 10.5 and the 12kg have needle bearings and the spin on both is "Eleiko through and through" and excellent (no slop etc) but this 12kg does have a slightly lighter feel to the bearings and their spin, much like a used Training bar.

For me a worthwhile upgrade (although admitedly a luxurious one).

LOL - Europe. Assuming that you are across the pond, my second hand sales prices are probably above or around your new retail prices

    Non Branded Eleiko 25kgs

Strange sight here, non branded 25kg Eleiko Comp plates.

All the other plates are branded as usual, and many of the 25s are too, but there are quite a few at this event with blank branding.

All taken from the u23 Junior European Championships. They look kind of photoshopped on the images but they are screenshots from a live video, so not been manipulated - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf6dybr_0Fw

    Found out why!!

Those 25kg plates which are unbranded were from the London Olympics. There was a ruling that at the London Olympics certain plates were not allowed to be branded - It looks like at the training hall in London all the plates were unbranded, 10kg through 25kg (and the change plates too). Very un-Eleiko-like.

I've seen this apparent anomaly too (ATG clips).

    Excellent analysis.

    Thanks.

I just saw this online, and thought it was pretty interesting! These style sleeves have, generally speaking, only been seen on Russian equipment.

    Wow. That is interesting!

Looks like I´m getting another Christmas present. ha.

Have briefly looked around and I can't currently find any additional information on this new bar. But I want one... Hope to have more information on it soon. Wondering what the collars are going to look like!!

Thanks for the information and links.

Thanks to you too Foltermeister. Didn´t know Panatta made a bar like that.. Nice! Shame there is not more information about it on their site, or better pictures, looks a great bar.

I´m wondering how the "Friction Grip" change plates will handle being put on over the rib gaps... I can see the FG causing some drag.

    Exciting changes imo.
