As far as your routine, goes, what exercises are you performing, really? IMO, I really don't do anything for bis, or tris considering that I feel they get worked quite enough when you're doing your compounds. Shoulders are solid, just hit the anterior, side and posterior heads if possible. And as far as back/chest go, as long as you're doing a push motion (like bench) and a flye motion you should be good for chest. Back requires pulls from three directions (vertical, horizontal and from the ground).

Legs is just legs Squat/dead/leg press/extensions/curls should all make their way into the routine in some way/shape/form. However, that doesn't mean you HAVE to do compounds.

In regards to cravings, they can certainly make or break your diet. There are a lot of ways that I work to mitigate them, or work around them. One of my favorite things to do is to limit myself to a small amount of X/Y/Z food I crave during the day. What I mean by that, is just setting aside a certain amount of calories so that if I feel the need to snack on something that normally wouldn't fit in my diet, I can.

Usually it amounts to something like 200-400 calories. It may not seem like a lot but it is very helpful to me.

Another thing I like to do is to start adding spices/flavoring to the foods I'm cooking. Recently began using Goya's Chorizo sauce in my cooking. That, or pick up some of Yucateco's Habanero hot sauce. That's some good stuff right there. Sauces, spices, and low calorie toppings make the world go round.

    >.> And if you don't do this already... Buy Diet Dr. Cherry Pepper in bulk.
That sucks, hope all is just fine now! So, my A routine is the following:
    1) Bench Press (I'm focusing primarily on form for starters)
    2) DB overhead press
    3) Lateral raises
    4) Rowing machine (butt on the ground)
    5) Lat Wide Grip Pulldown
    6) Bis Curls
    7) Tris pushdown
    B routine:
    1) Leg Press 45°
    2) Extension
    3) Abductor machine
    4) Leg curls
    5) Calf raise with weights

And I may or may not do some planking/leg raises as the workout is kinda short
And my once a week cardio is usually fasted Biking (MISS) for 30mins

    Have an awesome week bro!

Anybody read Mark Manson articles? Stumbled upon them recently; have read some very good articles that have changed my perceptions and have some good info and ideas about relationships, the self, and psychological stuff.

There's an article that talks about life being a video game.. and it describes you leveling up in life, with events being thrown at you and your choice of either using a Solution(finding the solution to a problem) or Distraction (running away from problems). The more you use either one, the more it becomes a habit. This one hit me, because at times I find myself having a problem and just dealing with it using Distraction.. that would be binge eating when stressed during school, or smoking when i'm stressed. I'm also procrastinating in turning in some papers I need to turn in for school. I'm guilty in using this from time to time, recently these past two weeks with school and work stress, I found myself more often staying home or going out to smoke, and eat. This right here actually lowered my "level" in life, since I have wasted money, time and positive mind due to eating and smoking. My schoolwork has actually been left to the end, and I have not ran/exercised properly.. If I kept going, this would become a habit, and having two weeks going on like that scares me. Now think, if I had chosen solution, I wouldn't have so much schoolwork, paper deadlines, I would not be that bloated, would probably be slimmer still, with a better weight press and better run times.

Thankfully, I found his articles, which gave me insight into a better way of living/thinking. I have chosen to use Solution, and will continue to use Solution in my endeavors and upcoming struggles. It's always better to attack everything head on rather than letting stress win and take over causing you to indulge in "bad" stuff and be distracted.

Distractions keep us in the same level(fat, pothead and average grades?), Solutions allows us to level up(improve ourselves, better physique and health, confidence, good grades and paperwork turned in in time). The examples in the parenthesis change with each individual, but the ideas are the same..
    What's better?

If you guys have some free time, I encourage you to read some of his articles. And they do not take up that much time

And remember to never use Distraction, that is bad! always use Solution for everything

Going to take a look at his articles. I feel you when it comes to smoking and eating. For myself, its a comfort thing. I've had a hard time for the past two years restricting myself from my cravings for fast food. I sit down to watch some netflix then the next thing you know I'm ordering a large pizza for myself. And this is pretty damn often. It's definitely not healthy for me, especially since I sometimes smoke which I'm trying to cut out entirely.

I keep telling myself "Okay after tonight, I'll become strictly a whole food eater and get healthy." -- then i indulge maybe a day or two later. Basically never forming a habit. I need a cue and reward like the book "The Power of Habit" states (which i suggest you guys take a look at). I want to strict a large pizza for myself once a week (Saturday or Friday) then have a healthy meal schedule for the weekdays with cardio and lifting. It sucks when you know you're making excuses but continue to make them.

In other news the second interview went really well I think. Doing a test assignment from home right now. (building an advertisement) and I have to send it in by Wednesday. Will keep you guys updated.

Whats the weather like where you are? It's been raining and flooding here for a week.

The exercises are fine in your routine, but I'm curious about the rep ranges. I think that as far as the leg work goes, there should be a little bit more, mainly because the legs require a bit more effort to build and maintain. So if you're not squatting/deading, you should be adding an additional exercise to make up for it.

    I might have you do;
    Leg Press
    Leg Extensions
    Hamstring Curls
    DB lunges
    Calf exercise of choice.

That's an interesting concept, honestly. I think it's human nature to want to distract yourself from certain issues by spending time doing something else. However, the best way to get over anything is to spend time trying to figure out how to solve it.

    I always thought of it like this;

If you can't fix something, don't worry about it.
If you can fix it, do something about it and stop worrying.

That's usually the lens I view my problems with

    @Kojhab:

Boredom eating is a very common habit. The best way to stop it is to recognize when and where it happens. Since you know where exactly it is that you begin thinking these thoughts, maybe the best way to prepare would be to have something to eat instead of the pizza while you're checking out netflix. Something I'd do would be to cook first, or just have a snack that I can slap into my daily intake without ruining it. That way, you're not knocking out an entire pizza and throwing yourself off.

Man, that was literally me 2 years ago when I thought I was gonna stay there, then again a summer later, then again this past December.. then again these past two weeks. It's a bad habit and a part of me that I want to get rid of.

That once a week plan works like a charm, that's how I gradually decreased the portions of pizza/fast food by decreasing it to the weekends, then to Sat. I have learned that once you go through ONE weekend without pizza/fast food, then you wont even feel like eating none of that at all the next weekend. srs

Smoking is that it's not comfort for me, but I like the way it feels, yet I don't need it and can stop smoking whenever. There's other things you can do instead of that, like reading, running, playing video games, etc

    In for your updates mane.

Here it's starting to get very hot, I live in the desert so it can only get worse. If only we were so lucky with rain. Not flooding though, is it bad?

    @Type Yup.

His articles are cool, I like the way he explains and uses different ideas/concepts to explain his stuff.

Now Kojhab and I got similar issues with the eating, that can be fixed by doing productive chit instead of just eating and being a couch potato. I replace that with fruits or like you said, a small snack which would usually be a granola bar, something that wont break you.

Sry I missed some details! I was short on time when I posted hehe
So, regarding reps: my trainer told me the "3x12" is BS, what matters is when your muscle reaches fatigue and fails to contract. So what I do is go for the failure, always. Like, I did bench presses yesterday. The weight was challenging. But in the middle of the 3rd set I felt it was possible to go for more 6~8 reps. So I did a 4th set with a friend of mine spotting me when I couldn't raise the bar anymore. My chest was burning and it felt awesome

    And hmm, the proportion
between my upper and lower body is messed up. I've got "soccer player" legs while my arms and chest are ridiculous. Maybe that's why I am not doing much leg exercises, but the few I go for are intense.

I'll post a picture in a few weeks in my thread so I can make a comparison.

Thx for your positivity bro, have a good one!

Btw folks, could you recommend me a good book about self-improvement and that kinda of stuff? I'm set for a NoFap during May (5 days steak so far) and I can't afford to have spare hours, gotta remain productive/doing stuff :P

Do you happen to have any links to articles he's written that really resonate with you? I'm kind of curious, honestly.

Snacking is where it's at. I'm constantly snacking on things... Legit went to job lots today in order to buy a bunch of Chef's Cut Jerky on the low.

AS far as what your trainer said... While I agree that 3x12 is not the be all end all, I think that he's missed the mark as to why.

All rep ranges encourage hypertrophy and as long as you're following a system of progressive overload that continues to increase the weight over time you will be able to build muscle. Of course, this is dependent upon whether or not you keep yourself in a caloric surplus.

Show some pics man Always love seeing progress pictures!

Here's the article about using Distractions and Solutions.. a lot of things he says there resonate with me, and I think people will also relate to things. It's just normal human stuff.

"If a Player feels they understand a problem and are capable of handling it, they will pursue a Solution. If players are just sick of Life’s ****, then they will likely pursue Distractions to help them pretend the problem isn’t actually there."

So this just happened to me. I'm low on money, and I owe a lot of money. Good thing is that school is over now, finished my finals. So i'm about to go into the program for Xrays, finally got my titer results back.. I came out negative on one of them, so I need to get whatever vaccine/shot it is. Well results come back in 6 months and I need to get in my papers by June 6th. So I got pissed off, and was ready to erupt and hit the gym hard, then soon after binged on beer food and greens. So I made some calls to clinics, with no aim but to ask if there's a way I can get that faster than the 6 months. So it turns out there is a vaccine, an accelerated vaccine called Twinrix, but it will cost 115 per shot and I need a series of 3 shots. So that killed my day, already struggling as it is..
(hey, but why tf didn't the titer place at school let me know about this twinrix?)

I would've normally been pissed off, as usual, gotten home, bought some beer and greens to go along with junk ****ty food and netflix for the day. But no, I decided to start making calls everywhere I could finding different ways I could get it done, and it turns out those accelerated shots may get me in the program after all. What did I do?

    The Do Something Principle

    https://markmanson.net/do-something

Have you guys ever had to do a hard task, that you didn't how to start? Then you took action and before you know it, you are already half way into finishing whatever you were dreading to do, and, confidently at that? Or you have to write and essay but don't know how to start, then you scribble some words and your brain starts functioning developing itself for the task?

all you have to do is.. do something. No matter what it is

I aimlessly started making calls and found the Twinrix vaccine. I didn't even know this existed!

I know these things are normal things, but we tend to overlook things and make things harder than they are.. or see things too hard and would rather do something else to avoid whatever it is that you're dreading. These articles are pretty good, you guys should check them out, i'm serious. It's good mental stuff.

BTW, I think it's ridiculous that my grades are top and have been top but I can't get in the program due to some shots and extra chit they ask you for. I've always had the Air Force in my mind.. If I don't make it to the program i'm thinking of taking my brains elsewhere and out of my hometown.

I feel like there is nothing for me where I live.

EDIT: Good vid, the winner in that race was smart to pace himself and give it his all in the second lap, winning.

Hey folks. How are you holding up?

I'm pretty happy today. I had my stats checked a few hours ago and I packed on a decent amount of LBM in 3 weeks, and some fat too but it's okay. I was kinda of anxious because I didn't know if I was doing everything right so far, but it seems the only thing I gotta tweak from now on is calorie consumption. My genetics is not the best, and my childhood was basically eating crap and playing video games, so being overweight was always "normal" for me. I thought I'd never make gains because of that. But it seems that the endomorphs have an easy time in that matter. That's a big relief

It's refreshing to see results! My motivation is off the charts now

So, if you're feeling sad and lacking motivation just believe in yourself. We all gonna make it
If it was easy, everyone would be shredded

Is this for employment? (the vaccines) -- I may have missed a previous post. I know I've gotten Twinrix when I've gone on vacation. Basically prevents hepatitis if I'm not mistaken? A couple of shots and you're good for a long time. But yeah, the money unfortunately in the US to get the shots is a pain in the ass.

So I got the job -- "Graphic Designer" at a big distributor company for medical devices! I start on Monday and its a full-time gig in my field. I guess I can say it's the start of my career finally. Got a base salary of 42k/yr. This will hopefully rise in the next 6 months or year! Luckily I have no debt and still get to live with my rents, so I'll be saving. A little nervous of what to expect, it's a 30 minute commute which is good compared to the main city. Hoping everyone there is friendly and the work is promising.

It's for the Radiology program, which is basically school and I guess internship?(since we work with patients too) and yeah, it's a pain in the ass, already had the month of may planned out just to have this happen..

Congrats on the job mane, it's what you really want to do then it will not be that much of a problem even at 42K, starting! Hopefully you have good coworkers and bosses, I know that makes the job either more frustrating, or more satisfying.

Funny enough, both of my bosses from my 2 jobs got fired and are gonna be replaced. Coworkers/schedules and stuff are all over the place. Let's just say these GMs weren't the best in their field lulz. I hope I get decent bosses

    All good here!

I wonder what OP has been up to

Last Saturday I went to my doctor to check my stats, and fortunately by recomp has been working wonders. I regained some LBM (had to quit exercising for 3 months) and made new gains, while losing some fat. I'll keep at it until August, let's see how it goes haha

Something that has been of great help to me in all aspects of my life is the book The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson. I seriously recommend it to anyone who wants to improve and have success in any matter.

Btw I'll start reading Mark Mason's stuff, it seems the guy knows his chit.

That's what's up mane, I know that feel of improving your body type and adding lbm while shredding off some fat. Keep it up!

Definitely DO read Mark Manson's stuff man! I think reading some of his articles and realizing things about yourself and other people really changed my mentality. I could say I am more productive and a better socializing person than I was before. I think all the self negativity I had did consume me and my mind and with those articles I kind of backed off a bit of those negative thinking ways.

Btw thanks for adding that book, love me those type of books!

It's been a bit of time since the last chance I had to post on the forums. Over the last two months, things have really been moving fast for me. Training for the Hudson Valley Invitation Tournament amped up really hard; I'm really sorry about that, guys

However, I should be getting a little bit more time over the next couple of weeks as I've finally put my second fight behind me.

Mark Mason, you guys say? Looks like I've found my new reads for the next week. I'll read some articles tonight and give some feedback when I get out of work tomorrow. Looks like everybody is moving forward pretty well these days, I'm proud of you guys.

@Kojhab: Yo man! Congratulations! Awesome to hear that you got the graphic designer position; your work speaks for itself though. Did you celebrate?

@2010: How is work/school coming along, my man? How is everything since we last spoke?

@Vini: Das it mane, successful recomp. I don't think I've ever been able to recomp without accidentally bulking. So GJDM, and keep it up. Also, solid book recommendation... Been trying my best to keep myself well read these days so I'm going to have to grab the PDF!

Im getting my real estate license shortly so I'm leaving work to just study up and relax so Im in the zone to take my tests. Been working in bank for 13 years, managing it for 6. Live in a smaller town so I have a ton of connections that should help me find business.

What made me decide? Life is short. There are only 24 hours in a day and I want more control over how I spend those hours. I want more control of my future, my income, my time. I know early on I wont have control over all of those things but I'm focused on the big picture/end game.

A couple of my friends have moved into real estate with great success, my family owns a bunch of rental property and I've owned a couple. We have a group of people interested in building homes in vacation areas, mainly Belize. My best friend moved there in January to sell real estate and wants me to join him so If I can make this work, my 5 year plan may be to move there permanently.

Currently planning to read Psycho-Cybernetics. I've the book but haven't read it. I plan to finish it tomorrow.

I've been living a very dull life, with no motivation to improve myself at all. After having enough of saying tomorrow is the day and wasting years of my life, I'm going to read a few books this week, also Mark Manson's articles (as suggested), and get a grip on my life. I've had enough of being mediocre, at best, and being jealous to cope or just rotting when I see someone succeeding.

Can I have some motivation and encouragement please. I have autism and the motor coordination issues with it affects my lifting. As you can see in my signature my lifts aren't that great. I'm trying to make a change in my body and become fit. I feel bummed out tonight because the fitness world is so confusing and I just want to find a way to build muscle and look better as well as increase my confidence. Would truly appreciate any advice or encouragement.

Hey folks, just checking in to know how are ya doing!

Last week was rough to me. Chitty weather and flatline hit me like a truck. I got depressed and I didn't feel motivated to do anything, so I relied on my supply of caffeine pills to get up and go to work. On top of that I ate junk food the whole fukking week. Looking back know I realized the harm I did to myself. Went to the gym today, and my strength decreased noticeably. Also I'm still bloated as hell. Anyways, I'm back on track after 7 days of pure hell.

I had to get this out of my chest. I love you all, no homo
