    Am I getting enough calories?

    Hello all,

    I am a recent sports medicine major and former college athlete, but I am looking for some feedback. I am currently 225 lbs and stand at 5'8" with an estimated 20% body fat. My goal is to build muscle and lose fat. I want to reach about 190 lbs and 7% body fat.

    I have calculated my BMR using the Harris Benedict formula (revised) and from that my BMR is about 2200 calories per day. With my exercise activity level (moderate) I burn about 3000 calories per day. My current daily macronutrient ratios are around 50% carbs, 25% fat and 25% protein. I have consistently been eating about 1850 calories per day.

    Am I hurting myself with my current calorie/macronutrient intake or should I increase my calorie intake OR adjust my macronutrient percentages? All feedback is welcome and appreciated!

    Seems as though you have some wiggle room to raise your calories. That is a pretty hefty deficit and you won't be able to go much lower. You would probably want to raise your protein and drop your carbs some to retain as much muscle mass as possible.

    Pick one goal (either build muscle or lose fat) and stick to it. Unless you're just starting out lifting you won't be able to accomplish both at the same time.
