    Dude, I heard of you.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

    1) People are crazy.
    2) I must be looking small

    RANT:
I called a lady out for pushing past me in a line at one of those kids trampoline places today and when she freaked out on me I might have called her a name.

Then at another line while we were waiting behind them her 12ish year old son called me a name and started posting up on me lol. Fat mom then starts yelling at me (this is in front of my 8yo daughter, her 3 friends(6-8yo), and their dad. I turn my back and try to walk away etc and mom starts pushing her big rear end on me(my back) and screaming more to the effect that I am pushing her etc. We just left after management came over because I didn't want to get into it with the kids there(they were complaining about me "starting stuff" and trying to fight with the little boy). We got our money back and told them to check the cameras, even though witnesses all around were saying we were fine.

    /diary

EDIT: these were the lines to just get started. 30mins wasted and stress for the kids. Took them to Chuck E Cheese and ice cream instead and they might have had a better time.

Speaking of hiking, here are a few shots from Friday's hike. We went a little over 12 miles with 2100 feet of total ascent.

We had to walk through a gated community (Eagle's Nest) to get to the actual start of the trail.

A view from the Dixie Mine Trail:

Prickly pear cacti on the Coachwhip Trail:

I decided to use my better camera for these shots. It doesn't zoom as much, so I had to get close. I think the camera was less than two feet away for the first of these two shots.

We hiked an old road to a ridge and then followed the ridge to its summit. This is a photo of Bob on the way back.

    Saguaros on the Prospector Trail:

This is a horned lizard on the Bell Pass Trail. It wouldn't let me get close, so I used the camera with the 30x zoom. The zoom is nice, but the image quality is not as good as that of the other camera.

I plan on going to the Superstitions a lot more this fall and winter. There's tons of trails I haven't hiked and I want to knock some of them out.

For what it's worth, I've been using the Sony RX100 III for most of my photos. I recently purchased a Sony A7RII, but have not used it much yet. It's still easier (and cooler) to carry the much smaller camera instead.

With regard to processing, I start off in Lightroom and work on the overall tonality. I make sure that the image is not being clipped in either the blacks or the whites; if they are, I adjust the sliders accordingly. If the color is severely out of whack, I adjust temperature and tint to move it closer to where it should be. If there's a lot of noise in the photo, I'll move the luminosity NR slider up a little bit. (I run Topaz DeNoise later on if the image is still noisy.) Aside from those adjustments, I don't touch anything else. This includes clarity, saturation, vibrance, and sharpening. In fact, for sharpening, I've set things up to zero out the slider - I think the default is 25.

I then send the image to Photoshop. I've been reading two books by Dan Margulis, Modern Photoshop Color Workflow and Photoshop LAB Color (2nd Edition). The first book describes a workflow that he calls the Picture Postcard Workflow or PPW for short. There is a free panel, the PPW Panel, which can be used with Photoshop to easily apply the methods described in the book.

From within Photoshop, I've been applying the PPW methodology to process my photos. I think it's made a difference in the quality of my photos, especially with regard to color. Prior to reading his book, I would often know that something was wrong with the color in my images, but I wasn't quite sure what it was nor what I should do about it. I am now better able to evaluate the color in a photo and am also able to correct it. I use these techniques even (on the rare occasion) when I do a Lightroom-only edit.

One of the really cool actions from the PPW is the Modern Man from Mars (abbreviated MMM) action. It is a way of introducing (or perhaps enhancing already existing) color variation within the photo. I find this to be especially useful in the photos I take of desert landscapes. They're mostly fairly dull browns and greens. MMM livens these photos up by making color variation within the photo more noticeable.

The PPW also includes a state of the art sharpening method. The panel is worth the time needed to install it for the sharpening action alone.

That's more or less how I do it too. (Look at HAZ sometime during the week and pick something out.)

If you haven't done it yet, one to add to your list is Picketpost Mountain Summit. I did it last spring with several other people. Here's one photo from that hike:

Thanks for the quick write up. On spread as usual.
I "acquired" lightroom & photoshop, so I'm good on those fronts. I just haven't had time or the funds with replacing basically the entire suspension & steering on an H2. Car parts are expensive. It's as bad as buying lenses!
I'll have to get more accustomed & post a few pics now & again when I have the time.

I just laughed at him. I honestly didn't know what else to do. When the whale started pushing me and screaming that I was pushing her my brain almost exploded. I was just reminding myself that there was a camera on her the whole time. Technically just her doing that is assault so I was just letting her dig her own grave. Thought about calling authorities but again, my daughter and some other little girls were there so we just booked it.
