I've hung rings and a climbing rope in the garage part of the gym that the grandkids enjoy using.

I guess a dedicated play area could be a future gym project.

Did you know the never step over a barbell rule?

You must walk around a barbell on the platform to show respect.

New Years Eve! A new year AND a new decade starts tomorrow! It's the perfect day to unleash a plethora of dad jokes.

Has anybody ever used or seen Steelflex equipment? Link to their site is below. There are some used pieces near me, but I have no experience with this company.

    https://fmiamerica.com/product/steel...incline-press/

EDIT: Sounds like it might be a branch of body-solid?

    Hello,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are having a great NYE. I want to get more involved in the forums as well as be a sounding board for product ideas. I truly miss the forums and was posting a lot more frequently in the contest prep forums when I was competing. I will be releasing 2 new products the beginning of this year that Im very excited about as well as 4 more that are being finalized. I promised myself I would ONLY bring new and innovative designs so you most likely wont see the basic equipment like racks, unless its a redesign. Looking forward conversations and meeting new people.

My first question for you all is...

At what point does specialty equipment become no longer worth it in regards to price? What cost percentage over a "standard design" is your limit?

I truly miss the forums and was posting a lot more frequently in the contest prep forums when I was competing. I will be releasing 2 new products the beginning of this year that Im very excited about as well as 4 more that are being finalized. I promised myself I would ONLY bring new and innovative designs so you most likely wont see the basic equipment like racks, unless its a redesign. Looking forward conversations and meeting new people.

My first question for you all is...

At what point does specialty equipment become no longer worth it in regards to price? What cost percentage over a "standard design" is your limit?

    - Steve
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years Eve brother, that's kind of a broad spectrum question because it depends on what type of specialty equipment it is...for example is it a specialized station piece such as a cable, or plate loaded leverage unit, a specialty bar, or a unique cardio piece?

Also some on the forum members might never pay full retail for big and/or smaller pieces and buy used, while some might pay full price because they don't get too many good deals in their area, or don't have the means to haul many pieces, or might not want to haul them around to their home...or might just always prefer buying their pieces new.

What type of specialty products are they categorized as?

For this example lets use a trap bar. A very generic design compared to one of the specialty trap bars.

If it was a generic designed trapbar (short sleeves making it incapable of holding massive amounts of weight), a lower weight capacity under heavier loads, lack of options and not as refined knurling and finishes...probably around $100 new would be suitable.

If it's a specialty trapbar (holding maximal loads of weight, ergonomical handles/multiple grip handle options and/or different diameter thick handles, nice knurling and refined finishes and perhaps color options). $300 to $500 range new would be fair in my opinion...a good example of this would be the Biotest Dead-Squat bar they used to sell off of T-Nation's website which I happen to own.

Has anybody ever used or seen Steelflex equipment? Link to their site is below. There are some used pieces near me, but I have no experience with this company.

    https://fmiamerica.com/product/steel...incline-press/

EDIT: Sounds like it might be a branch of body-solid?
I don't know whether there is a direct connection between Body Solid and Steelflex, but I know someone who bought a few of their pieces from one of the Body Solid suppliers here in the UK.

I know he bought a stack shoulder press and vertical chest. I haven't seen them in person, but I believe he's happy with the equipment.. Commercial quality, manufactured in China, but my buddy has a lot of high end equipment in his commercial gym and I just don't think he'd instal something that wasn't fit for purpose.

    Happy New Year guys.

I read a while ago how bikes are basically the worst piece of equipment for cardio. You sit on your arse and move your legs. No upper body engagement. Rowers or assault bikes are the best...although swimming is probably supreme. Ellipticals are good too.

I prefer to do "conditioning" workouts, not cardio. Kettlebell swings are great, particularly if you do 400 to 500 a day.

My $80 Schwinn Air Dyne gets a good workout when I do my Tabata sprints. I am not that fond of just sitting and pedaling on a bike. But sprints can be a killer workout.

I looked at their rower a few years ago (online and not in person). The specs looked decent, although I never pursued it, so I have no hands-on information. The UK Body Solid site claims Steelflex is a "sister brand to Body Solid", and at one point you could buy their products from fitnessfactory.com (Body Solid's retail division), although they seem to have dropped off the site.

I picked up the incline press and shoulder press today, and so far I'm really impressed. I'm surprised that I'm not more familiar with this brand (sounds like they are mainly down south in Texas and oversees. The units are really solid, the arm movement is smooth (have only had a 45 pound plate on them so far), they don't take up a lot of room, and they look great. The black and red matches my rack and gym colors, so that never hurts anything.

EDIT: No idea why my pictures are rotated.
