Alot of people focus on the bar bending in that vid, but I only see a guy who should have set the safeties properly. I know he is a prominent powerlifter and all, but he could have seriously hurt himself trying to re-rack that bar.

Oh yeah, seen that one too! There was also a scary one recently of Brandon Curry, training before he won the Olympia. Was working on a single stack machine and the thing tipped and about crushed him. FREAKING lucky here...

i recently acquired this york 6 ft split sleeve power bar. it was pretty nasty but i think i cleaned it up pretty good!

i havent decided if ill keep this one, sell it, or sell my other 2 6 ft york split sleeve bars. they are not as old as this one.

Not equipment related per se, but equipment related.....I'm very close to closing on a new home..... which includes a 40x60 pole barn w/concrete floors. Initially this will need to serve as both my new gym and my toy barn..... but it's not going to take long before it gets crowded in there. Come spring time, I expect to break ground on a 2nd pole barn meant exclusively for the gym. I'll be stopping back now and then with some updates as things progress. It'll be a big change from moving out of my basement gym into a separate building..... but the biggest PITA will be moving all that iron upstairs out of the old house. Seems that dragging everything downstairs had the benefit of gravity helping..... not so much on the move out.

Not like it really matters. He's nothing but a hoarder, and won't use it anyway. That bar will probably wind up sitting outside because his his hovel is packed so full of crap he can barely walk through, nevermind actually use any of the crap he's brought home.

You might want to check with Chadsalt, if I make no mistake, he just finished a gym in a pole barn a couple of months ago.

Phase 1 completed..... dumbbells 15-100 plus about 2,700 lbs of plates moved yesterday out of the old house basement into their temporary home in my barn. Thought it was worthy of a picture as the plates have never really been all together. I've decided to hire a moving company to disassemble and reassemble my machines, which should be done by mid December.

I’ve always worked out barefoot since I put my gym together and it just occurred to me that a dropped weight could be bad news.

I often go barefoot in my gym.

Unless you're wearing steel toed boots, a dropped weight on your foot will likely be bad news regardless.

Agreed, I only lift in my shoes, but gym shoes offer little protection if you drop a plate onto your foot.

Whilst stripping my bar I didn't notice a 10kg bumper in front of the 20kg plate, the 10kg plate dropped onto my toes, 2 broken, plus the loss of 3 toe nails.

These days I'm more careful.

Spring, summer, fall: barefoot with all my pulling work. Squat shoes for squatting/benching.
Winter: Shoes for every lift every day

I like working out barefoot. Sometimes I wear socks and water shoes if it is cold.

As for shoes saving your toes from a dropped weight . . . LOL

All shoes will do if you drop a 45 on your foot is keep the pieces in one place. It is going to hurt, regardless, unless you lift in steel toed boots.

Thanks guys, I’ll continue to just do the barefoot thing then. My gym is inside my actual house rather than a basement or garage or something so the floor doesn’t get cold or dirty or anything.

Thank you, yes, I'm delighted, it's a little girl, lifting is in her blood, my daughter was a junior national weightlifting champion, so let's hope she's passed her genetics on to the little one.
