From his facebook:
Ido Portal
@David Depending if I take my appetite suppressants or not. If I do, only 1233 Calories, but then again I will consume large amounts of diet coke and zero calorie jello. From which planet did you land from??
He has said that his diet consists of 200g-350g of meat per meal on a paleo diet with veggies for every meal. He has fruit and nuts post workout and one or two carb refeeds a week on rice and tubers.
How is that even possible?
Surely this can't be right. It makes me question everything else he preaches about fitness aswell. I do look up to him, and what he does is amazing but does this make sense to you?

Have you heard of the Rapid Fat Loss Diet? If you are on a major cut, you can survive on the bare minimum in fats and carbs (taken around workouts), as long as you get 1-1.5g of protein per lb of lean body weight. Carb refeeds aren't necessary, but can be very beneficial. Sounds exactly like what this guy is doing.
Bench - 245 lbs 1 rep
Goal - 275 lbs 1.5x bodyweight
Squat - 385 lbs 1 rep
Goal - 405 lbs 4 sexy plates
Deadlift - 335 lbs 5 reps
Goal - 385 lbs

These are temporary diets and not meant to be normal eating patterns for more than a couple of weeks.

Lol context?
Was he talking about having a few low cal days per week to stay slim, or does he eat like that 365 days per year.
Math says he eats more, unless he only eats one meal per day and a few nuts after training.
And he is a small bodyweight training guy, I doubt he cares about building muscle.
What do you doubt about what he says? He has videos showing you what he can do and has students who have used his approach, so I guess you're not saying you can't take his training advice seriously.
But he is a little extreme and his idea of basic moves are things most people on here would consider advanced. He is the opposite of Frank Medrano, who things you can do all that cool stuff by practicing push ups and pull ups every day.Real strength is getting off your ass to go train.

To be honest he is absolutely right.
The average pro bodybuilder needs 6 pillows to get comfortable at night. Its not natural. Training with weights is not natural, martial arts and dance and movement is natural and will get you a better physique and more appealing to women. Sorry guys but its true.

Can you post a link? I can't find it. I did find a facebook post of his that said counting calories is for bitches. lol
I highly doubt he is eating that few calories daily. That quote even said on days he takes an appetite suppressant. I would like to see the context.
Obviously Ido isn't a bodybuilder but i am kind of surprised so few people here know about him. The way he can move is very impressive.
Some of his stuff has greatly help me get in better positions for weight training. Like this video
…we have not spent the last 65 million or so years finely honing our physiology to watch Oprah. Like it or not, we are the product of a very long process of adaptation to a harsh physical existence, and the past couple centuries of comparative ease and plenty are not enough time to change our genome. We humans are at our best when our existence mirrors, or at least simulates, the one we are still genetically adapted to live. And that is the purpose of exercise. - Mark Rippetoe

Reporting back 2 years and 8 months later
I have made tremendous gains in remoddeling my connective tissue and confidence from where I was. I am no longer tight, inflexible or rigid. Since we are on a bodybuilding forum, aesthetically I have leaned out and have improved posture and distribution of muscle fibers across my entire body in addition to increased size and athleticism that translates well to hypotrophy bodybuilding workouts (I used weights and calisthenics along the way). There is still a lot of areas to work on, one of those is getting to 8% bodyfat.
I have reduced the intensity of my exercise and increased the consistency, I get a good balance of aerobic, anaerobic based workouts varying greatly in methods and techniques through out the week. My next goal is to lose an additional 5lb of fat and replace it with 5lb of muscle. I am nearing my goal and genetic maximum potential.
Current Diet
YES FOODS, EAT LIBERALLY
Lean Meats - (If factory/feedlot raised, otherwise fattier red organic meats are preferred)
Wild and Coldwater Fish - (Salmon, Sardines especially for the Omega 3's. Minimise exposure to predatory fish high in mercury)
Vegetables - (Aim for variety, Dr Terry Wahls has a good perspective on veggie intake)
Fruits - (In moderation, low glycemic preworkouts adjusted to workout intensity)
Nuts and Seeds - (Properly prepared, soaked in salt water to reduce antinutrients/phytic acid)
Dairy - (Full fat unprocessed organic only. Preferably unpasteurized, goats cheese/milk)
Eggs - (Organic only, with the yolks)
NO FOODS - RESTRICT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Industrial Vegetable Oils - (Including refined olive oil and canola oil)
Trans Fats
Commercial "low-fat" Products
Commercial Dairy
Saturated Fat - (From feedlot Animals fed Grain. If organic, eat lliberally)
Whole Grains - (Only if properly soaked/sprouted/infrequently)
Beans and Legumes - (Too many plant enzyme inhibitors and antinutrients. Only sprouted and properly prepared according to nourishing traditions)
Processed Food
Artificial Western Food - (Including "healthy" low-fat/low-carb/free from packaged foods)
Preservatives, Chemicals, Sweeteners
Sugar
Alcohol
Non-pharmaceutical Grade Supplements
Protein Powders including Whey, Pea, Hemp, Rice, Animal, Collagen
SUPPLEMENTS
Unprocessed Organic Manuka Honey
100% Organic Dark Chocolate
Raw Organic Coconut Butter
Organic Beef Tallow
Organic Lard
Organic Grass-Fed Unprocessed Ghee
Phamaceutical Grade Fish Oil
Chelated Magnesium
BCAA's
Organic Unrefined Coffee, Green Tea
Mountain and Distilled Water
That is my current diet I am having a lot of success with. I consume about 2,800 calories a day, 25% protein, 30% carbs, 45% fats. I am losing about 0.25lb a week, when I get to my goal, I will increase the carbs to bulk.
Thanks.
