i'm always tempted, but i dunno if i have the patience or the time.
ribs always look tempting, but honestly i'd be more interested in smoking some chickens. bbq chicken is always underrated, but so delicious when it's done well.
nice looking ribs, how long did those smoke for?Last edited by Domicron; 07-20-2015 at 02:13 PM.

Those ribs took 6 hours. I hear ya on the patience and that is one of the reasons I wanted to take up this "hobby". I am impatient by nature and this would force me to have patience, I'll tell you that it is worth the weight and I don't even mean for me to eat it. Nothing gives me more joy than when someone else enjoys my food.
Slow smoked chicken is really good, very moist and tasty and doesn't take long. I slow smoke Turkey every thanksgiving now and it comes out amazing.Free Agent

there's definitely something to be said about that...
i AM in the market for a grill. do you think it's worth getting a smoker/grill combo or separate units?
in a few years when i can afford to rebuild my deck, i'll be building an inground firepit/bbq. my wife is from hong kong where people like to grill like this:
when i've gone with her family, they go to parks where the grill is low to the ground, which means that i can build something simple for my friends to sit around at night and drink, as well as the in-laws to come over and grill during the day.
i'll have a deck and a ground level concrete pad, so i'll build the stone pit on the ground level and get a standard smoker and/or grill for the deck for convenience.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

That's a nice pit, but the walls are a little higher than i'd like for people to sit around...
i'm thinking something smaller, like
and then go larger with my smoker and/or grill on the deck. big enough for 4 or 5 people to roast food around, but not a full size thing...
EDIT: okay *******s, think i'm going to buy a new grill today. gonna go to the grill&bbq store near here to shop around, then either buy there or order online. probably aiming to start modest: weber kettle grill and a smokenator.Last edited by Domicron; 07-22-2015 at 12:06 PM.

That is a good low cost way to go. you can't go wrong with a weber kettle, they are so versatile. I have 3 - a weber kettle, a weber gas grill (for when you need to fire something up quick) and a weber smokey mountain smoker. None of them are terribly expensive and I've bought them over the years.

I had a pro Q for years and loved it. Used to smoke ribs and chicken mostly. Now I have an electric smoker for low maintenance and convenience. Now Im concentrating on Bacon mostly, pork belly, cured in brine for 4 days and smoked for 4-5 hours at 225. I take it out, rub it with a brown sugar mix that will remain a secret, and broil it till caremalized.
