Okay I'm in. Haven't shot in several months because of school, but when I'm done I'll 100% be back in the game. A few shots from the past..Pretty much city/landscapes for me.
Hope these aren't huge..

Awesome pictures!
My parents new neighbors race a '72 Chevy Vega that runs 9s in the 1/4th
I'd love to get some pics like that
what camera setup do you have?
-------------------------------------------------
man all the pictures on this page of the thread are insane. if anyone could point me in the right direction for a budget setup under $5k, I'd love to hear it.
I have my X100V, but made a lot of money recently and would like to expand
here are my latest two favorites. not sure which I like better.

I did some research and ended up grabbing a FujiFilm XT3 with 18-60mm and 100-400mm to start. Not sure what the 18-60mm will be like, but I'm wanting to use the 100-400mm for a lot of wildlife
I've not been to a drag strip personally, so maybe I'll be able to go if / when they open up
have some disposable funds for some other lenses too, but just wanna jump in and see what I like and don't like before I buy some more stuff
Thanks!
Composition and getting "an eye" for the shots is something I definitely need a lot more practice with
if anyone has any good YT tutorials, or photography related channels to follow I'd love to see them

two of my recent favorites with the XT3 and 100-400mm
2nd pic would've been better with something like a 50-140mm, but I already had the lens on and was leaving the beach
invested $5k roughly and about to double that lol
right now I have a 16mm-80mm and the 100-400mm
thinking of getting:
10mm - 24mm f4
56m f1.2
50-140mm f2.8
80mm f2.8 macro+++ Positive Crew +++

Realized last night I never turned on the IBIS in my R5 lmao
Took this at 2 seconds handheld with my 24-70 f/2.8L II. Curious how much long longer I can hand hold with a lens that has IS. Still in awe over this camera.

oof at IBIS off. I shot for quite awhile on my 100-400 without it being on. was a world of difference once I switched.
I have a fully Fuji Kit right now, 2x Fuji XT3 + a Fuji X100v.
I jumped in without really knowing anything about focal length, exposure triangle, full frame vs APS-C, etc.
Thinking I'm going to upgrade to the Canon EOS R5 with 15-35mm f2.8, 24-70mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8, 100-500 f4.5-7.1, 1.4x TC, and then see if I can grab an older 800mm f5.6 or something.
Been watching the videos and Canon's autofocus with animal eye detect is really amazing. I also would love to that increased low light capability from full frame, as well as 45MP for further cropping. IBIS will be good too
Edit: just did the math. all 3 Fuji bodies + 9 lenses and filters cost me $13.5K. a single R5 and 4 zoom lenses will cost me $15k. not to mention getting a used 800mm f5.6 is still like another $8kLast edited by PositiveCrew; 07-04-2021 at 11:45 AM.

for sure swapping to Canon EOS, just debating between 1x R5 and keep an XT3, or 2x R6.
my main concern is going from APS-C to FF. My most used glass is the 100-400mm with 1.4x TC, almost exclusively shot at 560mm and wishing I had more reach. that's 840mm FF.
I feel like the Canon RF 100-500 with 1.4x TC will be too small. I could use the APS-C crop mode in camera, but that takes the R5 from 45 MP to 17 MP or R6 from 20 MP to 7.8 MP....
So far most of my stuff is just FB / Instagram / Email for friends and family, but I would like to blow up some prints for around the house
I have a buddy with the R6, and it really is like millitary grade. absolutely mind blowing tech.
with my current Fuji setup, granted my skill isn't great, I basically can kiss any BIF (bird in flight) goodbye. I used his R6 for a couple hours and had almost all keepers. it was insane+++ Positive Crew +++

Do you have many Nikon lenses to offload? All this new technology is great if you're starting from scratch but jumping ship for a few gimmicky specs is an expensive exercise right down to new grips, batteries, memory cards, L-brackets, etc. Nikon Z9 appears later this year and it leapfrogs Canon again. And back and forth they go. Made in Japan still means something to me so I have much less of an emotional connection to Nikon than I did 10 years ago.
My first world problem is a) go all in with mirrorless, b) get a D850 which is 4 years old but still the best in its class, or c) wait for a D860/880/900 to materialize.
While some of the features on mirrorless are compelling I still can't get past the way they feel like a toy camera and battery life which is still garbage by comparison.
My D800E is 9 years old, preordered and got it May 2012, and aside from the rubber which needs to be replaced it performs like new. With a grip I love the way it balances with a 70-200 2.8 and I wouldn't get that with a Z7II.

broke down and got the R5.... $12k later and still more lenses to buy lol
Canon EOS R5 body
RF 70-200 F2.8
RF 100-500 F4.5 - 7.1
RF 800mm F11
RF 1.4x TC
I am so blown away by this technology. definitely a worthwhile purchase.
Nothing great yet, but a ton of fun tracking BIF (bird in flight).
full frame really lets you bump that ISO up. On Fuji APS-C I hated going above 3200. This shot was taken at 8:30PM EST at 1120mm, F16, 1/1000s, 12,800 ISO and handheld
I'm thinking the RF 28-70 F2 is a must. That'll hopefully allow me to avoid any primes in that range (23mm, 35mm, 56mm in APS-C equiv - the Fuji primes I have)
Then thinking either 15-35 F2.8 or Sigma Art 14mm F1.8 for landscape. Mostly for astro use.Last edited by PositiveCrew; 07-24-2021 at 09:18 PM.
