Opinions are like arseholes but after you've made a full recovery I hope you don't go back to flat bench. Unless you're a competitive powerlifter doing full meets I think there are better options for training chest. It's not just the risk of being pinned under a bar or being at the mercy of a dud spotter. Higher reps are probably fine but when you come close to maxing out you're really rolling the dice. I'll tell you why I think that is.

With dumbbells, say you've got a 70kg DB in each hand, it can never exceed 70kg on either side. With a barbell balancing over your chest it's not like that. If you're pressing 150kg for example, it's not always going to be a nice even 50/50 75kg a side. It might momentarily shift to 60/40 if one side is weaker at the bottom or near lockout or not firing perfectly in sync and that's a 15kg increase in loading on one side. If you're already near your max that could be enough to exceed the tensile strength of the pec tendon.
