Yeah I see the explorer/explorer2 fitting that bill. I have no doubt submariners/GMTs can take a beating and can last forever, I just can't imagine folk treating a 10k submariner as a proper tool watch. At least I wouldn't. I think i was only giving the nod to Tudor because at roughly ~$3,000 they're pretty much Joe Shmoe's "buy it for life" tool watch. At $3,000 your mind can't say "my beater watch is a car purchase".
Also, i'm currently in the UK and i see Submariner fuking EVERYwhere. All black cyclops dials. I saw one really old gent with a two-toned blue dial in a London train station. I was happy to see it for variety's sake.Last edited by W1LLW; 12-10-2019 at 05:40 AM.

Gents, i use my Hamilton khaki field auto w/black nato almost exclusively for the gym. Just thinking, is there another similar watch out there that's a chronograph and isn't 50mm? (yes I'm exaggerating but don't like huge watches). Looking something in the under $500 range.

Yeah, but a Rolex is a Rolex. Normies don’t know chit about Tudor. There is an aura around Rolex wether you believe it is deserved or not...
Yeah, they are Really obnoxious yellow gold Presidents. I don’t remember them actually wearing them, but the fact is that they and other normies think those are the best watches.
The story about the dentist illustrates this. Some dude is a watch nerd sitting in his chair and mirin watch. He asks the dude which model it is and dentist brah is like I don’t fukin know, I wanted a Rollie and liked the way this one looked the best. Watchcell is in disbelief that dentist brah didn’t choose his watch based off of watchcell community consensus of desirability. He wanted a nice watch, and spent his money on something with a pedigree.

Busted the ceramic ring on my artix gt chronograph. looks like chit, kind of want a tudor black bay to have as a lifetime dailydrivebeater but it's half the price of the cartier blue santos so going to have to exercise some restraint and hold out.

Lol'd hard at this because I read WILL's post and felt the same thing. Watch nerd chastises rich dude for not knowing which option he had and which was technically the better one after the watch nerd debates have ended. Meanwhile rich brah simply got zero time for all that chit lmaooo. Rich brah just collected his weekly salary, was feeling bored, realised he had some spare change and decided to buy a sick looking watch. Lmao. Not a single forum was read that day.

Depends what you want from your watch. If accuracy is of the most importance, get the Solar Powered Quartz. Citizen makes a bunch of cool ones.
If you don't want to worry about a battery and want something with a bit more "character" you should take a look at some automatics. It depends on what you feel is a "man's watch".
but it's solar quartz
not mechanical automatic
should search for an automatic i like ?
you "should" buy whatever the fuk you like in your budget maneLast edited by W1LLW; 12-14-2019 at 10:56 AM.

Dunno man, mechanical's look more "fun" to own and i respect the engineering that went into a time piece , but my rational mind is telling me go solar quartz(consistent accuracy+powered by the sun+less moving parts so it doesn't need servicing)
This is a semi difficult decision
I won't be making any moves on this right away, as this is a semi major purchase

30 days and counting...
Spoiler!
What started off as a harmless crack, has turned into literally HALF the fuking bezel falling out of my Oris Artix GT Chronograph. A slight bummer but I got it for a steal, and it was a good entry watch "to learn" on. It was my first Swiss Watch and helped me learn a few things. Primarily that first watch probably shouldn't be a chronograph (lack of versatility) and there's no shame in an ETA vs inhouse because the movement isn't something you really perceive.
So yeah, I'm gonna walk into an AD next month and pick me up something to replace my busted Oris. Not gonna lie @twovalvekid, I was wanting a gmt for the practicality purposes since I travel so much, but I strongly dislike blue/red, black/red bezels. That's when I realized the explorer 2 has a lovely gmt function on a solid steel color bezel. Chit is tempting...
Servicing on your first watch shouldn't be that big of a deal or even a semi frequent occurrence since your first watch will most likely have an ETA movement.
I've had my Oris Artix GT Chronograph for 2 years (ETA 7750 movement), and I have yet to have it serviced. My opinion though is to go into a store and start putting stuff on your wrist and buy whatever puts the stupid smile on your face. If it's quartz, it's quartz, if it's mechanical then that's cool too.
Chopard is like Girard Perregeaux. Tons of bang for buck, but i don't particularly care for the one you posted. I think it's just the pic because it prompted me to go looking at it's size specs. The pic makes it seem like it's damn near 46mm but the site lists it at 43mm (which is still large-ish for a non chronograph)

Went to the AD today, case thickness on the black bays are ass. There's no reason a no date, second, minute, and hour hand "complication" should be as thick as my chronograph. On top of that, their 41mm wears more like a 39...
The 43mm bronze is fuking sick tho. If I can get them to come off one for $3300, i'll snatch it. I'm not paying 4bands for a case that's gonna "patina" and likely look like ass in the next 3 years though.

Swatch Group no longer supplies ETA movements to outside brands. Unless he bought one of those brands, he would likely have a Seiko (in-house even on the cheap ones), Sellita, Miyota, or STP (newish ETA clone that Fossil Group came up).
I feel the same way about the Tudors. Every time I try one on I'm put off by the thickness. I like that bronzo, but it's a bit big for me, but I know you like that (no homo).Be the dog Iceman thinks he has

Friendly reminder that Swatch Group owns: Swatch, Tissot, Hamilton, Longines, Omega, Breguet, Glashutte, and Blancpain. So i think there's still a good chance of parts being easier to come by.
As for the tudor, after looking at pics again I realized why the 41mm seems so small. The fuking bezel probably takes up a combined 10mm of the case surface area. My chrono is 44 with a thinner bezel that maybe accounts for 7mm of the surface area. You couple the 31mm dial with the 15mm thickness and it looks like you're wearing a miniature trash can on the wrist. and just LEL at the BB58 being an even smaller 38mm.DCA'ing FXS since Sept2022
