Got a replacement strap for my bronze. Don't like the brown, going to get a black one. Went to a popular local italian restaurant with my girl to get an iced coffee. The owner was rocking a tudor gmt. I was like whoa, a fellow tudor wearer i had no idea. He laughed we started talking about his tudor collection. Then i asked him why doesn't he wear rolex. He said he had "a couple" rolex (could tell he was down playing it), he also said he recently sold a bronze montblanc he had.
Long story short dude is a proper watch enthusiast and was rocking a tudor gmt with no fuks given. Another interesting thing he mentioned was that he was irritated with the rolex dealer i first tried to get my bronze from. He says even HE still can't get a daytona or sky dweller from them and he spends 15k in there on the regular. He says if you're not spending $30,000 PER YEAR don't even try. My hypothetical grail.
Fuk looked it up and it's 3k lmao.
Kind of related article here about expensive Rolexes:
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/ev...dollar-rolexes
Just looked up those bronze mont blancs and fuk me they have a 40mm that actually would work with my wrist size. Fuking goofy ass logo that is a complete deal breaker though. Looks like it should be on a ski jacket.

On one hand yes, i can see the logo being perceived as silly. On the other hand, the logo itself does seem vintage in nature and kind of makes sense. Like it was made by a design team in the 50s. Through that lens it kinda fits.
Otherwise the 39mm IWC Spitfire Bronze would fit the bill for a "utility" or toolwatch-look to wear casually. Inhouse 72hour power reserve movement too. Not the sellita stuff they've been using.
When you're a successful restaurant owner, or a successful anything to the point where you have multiple rolexes, I definitely see the appeal of having IWCs and Tudors like this that fly under the radar and are only recognized by real watch dudes. I imagine after awhile you get tired of every joeblow "sIcK RoLeX BrO! hOw mUcH diD iT cOsT bRO? Is iT ReAl?"

The logo just looks to me like a ski shop's logo and should be embroidered on the chest of a polo shirt of an employee.
That IWC is nice. That movement is a 2892 base though, not fully in house, but well modified Nothing wrong with that though. I've been eyeing a very similar watch but in black ceramic, but it has the sellita movement.

Assuming we're talking about Rolex since you mentioned tropical, they're one of the only brands that people like worn looking condition. The thing is that most look like chit, so when you find one that looks aged and it's still in amazing condition, they cost a fortune. Or in the case of a tropical dial, it's just a fully authentic watch in a color that they never intended to make, so it's pretty rare. Then there are the fairly current models where something like on a Daytona might have a larger space between the R and A in Cosmograph, that make them worth more for some reason. I would laugh at people about it but that might be me one day so I'll leave it at that.

The plight of a tudor owner. Huehuehuehue.
Although it's happened a few times with mine. I've been told twice now that my AK is fake, and....wait for it....one of the most "copied" or "faked" models around.
*Shrug* i dunno what it is but love the looks of a watch that's been actually worn and loved. I guess to me it has soul?MFC

Which part was the plight of a tudor owner? that went over my head as I've only gotten positive feedback from other watch dudes in real life convos.
As for the fake rolex part, that's just the silliest notion ever to me. Why would you buy a fake watch that's not worth anything when you can buy the real thing, and have an actual asset you can sell later.
I guess the only reason the air king would be easy to fake is because there's not a complication in the movement and it's not on a jubilee bracelet. I just assume the jubilee would be more complicated (expensive) to fake than the oyster.
lol I'm not on the watch forums enough to see this but i can imagine there are some strong vintage lovers out there. that's not really my jam though. When I hear "vintage" my mind instantly thinks 38mm and smaller, which is way too dainty for me.
The major thing i "laugh at" or hate on in the watch community are:
- NATO straps
- people with unexplainable brand hate/loyalty Omega guys that refuse to admit a rolex looks good or vice versa
- The Seiko cult (we get it, they're "in house" movements and last a long time)
- Anyone that nuthugs a brand so much they do anything just to acquire the entry level model then act like they're a descendant from british royalty when they get it. The most obvious example is archie luxury. That dude admits to being up to his eyeballs in credit card dates, hates on people who own a nautilus for being "nouveaux-riche", all the while flaunting his boringass calatravas and begging for donations.DCA'ing FXS since Sept2022

i was more joking about the comments on foaming at the mouth over rolexes. LOL. Just didnt go as planned or come across as planned.
I dont get the fake stuff either. Ive seen some "expensive" fakes too which is like WTF? But i just lol'd at how people just immediately will say "oh that's fake." Just like ok bud.MFC

Although I do love the way they look and i would love a subnariner....This is the reason I won't ever buy a Rolex. I need to go suck someone's dink for the opportunity to spend 10k? Ridiculous.
I had to unfollow that wristwatcher dude on ig. Everyone he sells to is his "good friend", and he has literally every piece no one can get...hulk, batman, Pepsi, etc<HTC>

Ah okay, well yeah i wouldn't say he was foaming at the mouth over rolex "as the plight of a tudor owner" since the dude has several rolexes. And for myself, I've outgrown my initial rolex hate because i've found 2 models i actually like. SkyDweller, and Smooth bezel DJ41.
Agreed. The skydweller is more of a grail, and would be the only one that I would have to do "the rolex AD dance" for. The DJ41 though, i could walk into most ADs and pick it up same day. The only limitation i foresee is them having it in the color and bracelet configuration i want since I want the jubilee.
Especially now that the grey market has settled down. I mean i'm fortunate that the piece i'm pursuing is the smooth bezel DJ41 on jubilee. That's not a hype piece. Retail is $7900 and most grey market listings for the watch are in the $8500 to $9000 range which is basically what you'll pay buying at an AD when sales tax is added.
That BLNR you want on the other hand is a different animal. MSRP is 'only' $9700 but that joker is going for every bit of $15000 (minimum) on the grey market. I can stomach lighting $500 on fire to not deal with AD bullchit and get the watch i want immediately. But getting longstroked without lube for 6 grand?
Now with all that said. Surprised no one else has brought it up yet but... What do you think Rolex is releasing September 1st?

Hi guys. Havent posted anything meaningful in the MWC for like 2 years now.
Yesterday I got an early birthday present from my wife.
Its a 116613LB (Smurf Dial) on a blue RubberB Strap. I was debating between this, a Hulk or a blue Pelagos. Decided on this half-gold Smurf instead.
So far I am absolutely loving it. I wore a watch once or twice in the past 3 years. But so far I havent been able to take this off. I think it looks gorgeous.
