What a way to finish a vacation.... packed up the room and checked out at 12:00pm on Monday, got home 12:00am last night (Dominican time). 36 hours to get home.... flight got delayed 3 hours, then 4 more, then cancelled until the next day. So, they put us up for a night at the Chic Punta Cana. Ultra nice resort (we stayed at breathless which is also very nice, but Chic was very upscale and very expensive). We were only there for about 11.5 hours but we made the most of it. Welcome fruit plate and champagne on ice in our room, top shelf liquors on tap in the room, etc. We ate 2 meals at their buffet which was absolutely unreal. We stayed in the VIP club at our resort and the buffet food didn't even touch Chic. Sooooo, on Sunday we had a eat-everything day since we knew there was no more beach time, then ate complete junk as we waited at the airport, then gorged at Chic because it was free and amazing and all we had eaten that day was junk-type snacks. Then yesterday after eating a ton at breakfast we snagged muffins, donuts, etc for the flight home. Ended up getting a pizza delivered when we finally got home. Almost 3 full days of just going stupid on food, feel like I gained 15 pounds.

Did really really well for the planned part of the vacation. Responsible breakfast, responsible afternoon snack/lunch, then did a la carte restaurants every night. Food was incredible and nothing unhealthy about it. Went for a nice long run on the beach a few mornings and hit the gym twice. Something I've never done on vacation before, really.

That said... I never understood the hype of vacations until now. That was the first vacation I've ever felt like I was truly on vacation for and the wife and I agreed that it was the Honeymoon we never had. Really connected, very relaxed, just loving life for the week. It's been a rough few years so it was welcomed.

Had amazing weather and spent almost every day at the beach, one day on a day bed at the party pool. They handed out masquerade masks one night for a party which was awesome. Tried to make the toga party on the last night but were too wrecked. Won a little at the chitty casino, etc.

All pools and beach are topless optional which was fascinating to watch. You get the occasional fat disgusting person who hates themselves and tries to ruin other people's vacations, and there was a clear change in clientele during the week, but toplessness was like a contagious disease that you could watch spread. My wife and about 4 other women just didn't care, and then slowly but surely throughout the day it would start to spread outward from them. One day on the beach when there were 4 confident women near us, the day ended with about 15-20 topless in the general vicinity. I don't understand why so many women are scared to do it. No one regrets it after they try it, everyone says it's way nicer, and aside from people who are just really sad humans, no one cares.

.... that said my wife was attracting way way way more attention than anyone else. But the times she was dancing in just a thong at the party pool didn't do anything to discourage that.... lol.

The plan now is to move into a bit of a recomp and try to get my athleticism back and learn to enjoy working out again. It was a good reset for our diet and we're both inspired to get back into eating how we used to - whole foods without avoiding oils and such, delicious tasting veggies, etc. I feel like I'm in a good place right now where I can finally start getting 'better', so I'm going to take some time off work and make sure that this feeling doesn't get ruined until I get back into the healthy routines that I used to thrive on.

the woman i shared a room with in punta cana excellence drew some attention.
no topless and she wore a one-piece (outside the room) but one of the workers there walked up to her and said "follow me" while i was standing next to her.
we both just laughed at him and kept going but for a dude who doesn't speak English he spoke those words rather well.

it was an amazing trip out there. too bad the both of us got deathly sick after and were not exactly well for most of the summer.
The people in the other room didn't get sick so who knows?

    it's amazing out there.
drank iceburgs all day every day.

Happy to hear that. I'm in the same boat at the moment albeit not on vacation but living life has been way easier for me once I figured out exactly what I'm going to do with my time.

Probably just skin that's a couple of inches too thick

Watched the Dawn of Justice again this weekend and finally made some good sense of the story after paying attention; Hans Zimmer killed it as usual. Not sure why Zack Snyder's films get a lot of hate but I thought that Man of Steel and Batman taking on Superman were both fantastic portrayals of Morality against Darwinism (a few other meaningful themes in there too but don't want to turn this reply into an essay by posting everything lol) and misunderstood by critics.

Where is MLJ? I need some hippie style, paleo, low carb, gluten free, no-GMO, high protein, extra magic recipes for smoothies and breakfast food. I don't eat breakfast 95% of the time, and I'm trying to now, but the sugars from berries and bananas and such aren't helping and the calories being devoted to sugar are causing my fats to be low and me to be hungry.

I almost want to do a Keto bulk... but that would get real expensive real fast.

Team KetoBulk? Since I'm off work right now my sleep is more consistent. It's still disastrous but at least it's easier to control fatigue-induced binging. But the sugar and carbs though. Ugh.

It's laughable how some people mention that they are "working hard" (along with the annoying motivation memes) on fitness and diet whilst struggling with their weight or improving their physiques when in reality they should just stop whining and feel privileged to be around at a time when they have access to an abundance of resources including nutritious food, good equipment and health/fitness information.

True story there gomil. I picked up a second hand copy of Beyond Brawn 2nd Edition last year for $3, as I had never read it. Was reading about McRobert's struggle with back issues, trigger points, etc. He had a long section on what it means to be grateful to be healthy, and able to train. What an opportunity it is to enjoy your physical ability and have the opportunity to make improvements and changes in your physicality. It was my favorite section of the book.

They're down to like 3 now instead of 3 pages worth, so that's a strong improvement. People were just ignoring them all. Actually likely to get us more participation if it's constantly bumped and in the threads that people are looking at.

Might have connected a lot of dots to figure out what the hell is wrong with me... been taking Finasteride for years, but the thing with finasteride is the doctors and drug companies report it as extremely safe, few side effects (mostly overt and obvious sexual side effects or extremely minor ones) go away after you stop taking it... well, looks like that isn't true - like, at all. There are loads of studies that show just how bad it is long term, but since it's hard to make a "control" group as people are already on when they report symptoms the studies seem to be ignored because they can't show 100% for certain that all the bad stuff is from the drug......

Well, I've been taking it for so long that I don't even think about it, but I'm exhausting options to figure out what is going on and this was the next thing on my list. There are hundreds or thousands of people on forums reporting all the horrible side effects they experienced, and interestingly there are lots of people who were on for a long time before seeing any. There even looks to be a few people devoting themselves to warning others are the dangers. Anyway, common symptoms include major depression, not achieving R.E.M. sleep, weight gain or difficulty losing weight, metabolic issues, lots of sexual side effects that are always noticeable unless you're looking for it (lack of morning wood, for example), etc. etc.... Basically it would explain everything that doctors are trying to explain with other diagnoses after ignoring the fact that I'm on a drug that it's SOLE PURPOSE is to mess with hormones. I'm officially off of it as of now to see what happens, but unfortunately medical professionals have finally started to realize that some of the damages are permanent or take years to reverse... might have a long road ahead of me, but it makes so so so much sense that I'm cautiously optimistic I've found the answer - finally.

I'll update here after being off for a few weeks and then I'll make a long post in the supplement section if it turns out this was the cause of all the issues. I'd be mad at myself because it's been 2.5 years of complete misery, but having an answer and a possible solution is at least a little exciting - but not getting my hopes up until I see changes.

What I wouldn't give to sleep like a normal human being, have a normal metabolism, etc.

I can't even watch Youtube anymore without cringing except for the odd videos from a few select folks even though I have Adblock Plus. It hurts my ears listening to people complain about the struggles they are facing to put food on the table whilst working the MOST comfortable "job" on the planet and getting paid to click the UPLOAD button.

People don't know how to get past even the tiniest of obstacles since they feel like getting hit by a train all because they had it so easy until that moment and took everything from food to luxuries for granted.
