Of the 3 gyms I've consistently trained at 2 had 25kg plates and one was a homoerotic Crossfit-esque establishment where the heaviest weights were 15kg.

In the States they're 20.4kg. In powerlifting they generally use 25's but everywhere but the States 20kgs seems like the norm.

Thought I would chime in here, they are not 20.4KG in the USA, they are infact 45lbs.

    Notsureifsrs.

Larfleeze is in the UK. IIRC, the UK generally uses Olympic standard plates (i.e 25kg).

Here in Europe all gyms that I visited have 25kg plates.I use them always when I squat or on the leg press, even today.
Some lesser gyms might not have them though. They are too heavy for most people.

kilograms to pounds weight units conversion factor is 2.20462262.

This would make a 45lb plate weight in at 20.411656667KG NOT 20.4KG

In terms of world records the extra 110.6566 grams per plate would be significate for example if the athlete such as Ronnie Coleman was squating with 16 plates. The difference would be an extra 2KG's.

Actually there are 411.656667 extra grams per plate. So at 16 plates you'd get an extra 6.58...kilos, nearly 15 lb.
But hey, what is 15 lb for someone like Ronnie moving all the plates in the gym a consistent basis lol.

411.546667 grams would be true if we compared a 20KG Aussie plate with a 45lb American plate.

In reality the only way to really know is to weigh the plates accuratly before you attempt a record.

have you ever been in a gym and found that different brands of plates which are the same weight do not feel the same?

have you ever been in a gym and found that different brands of plates which are the same weight do not feel the same?
Noticed a difference in feel when they started switching in the rubber plates in place of the old skool metal plates...same goes for the dumbbells. The metal felt heavier even though the weight of the plate stated 45 lbs for both the rubber and metal plates. Same went for the dumbbells.

I found the metal dumbels easier to handle than the rubber ones which are more awkward to get up IMO and the friction from the rubber on your clothes makes it worse, I used to use the exact same plates each workout so I could properly track my progress.

If the plate/dumbbell dimensions changed, this could be due to different inertial properties (two plates with a different diameter but with the same weight will yield different dynamic forces when you're moving them around).

    Looking forward to the Olympia!

Dat roundness and conditioning at this stage of the prep on Phil! Crazy front relaxed.

    Dat depth on Kai's squats!
The combination of the weight, form, and depth all together make it that much more impressive.

One thing is for sure they are significantly bigger and better than Heath's, if Heath's mid section is anything like last years then it has to be game over (for any Heath nut huggers I mean game over in Kai's favour)
