A+ and Net+ were always requirements, but what I am saying is they don't actually prove any real world knowledge. Anyone can get a cert, especially with all the brain dumps.
What I'm saying is, it's a bad idea to say "Hey, I have these certs, so hire me." It actually lowers your value as a potential candidate.
I got my first IT job with no certs and no experience when I was 19. Yes, A+ and Net+ were listed as requirements. The guy that was "training me" was MSCE certified in Server 2000 and I knew more about computers than he did.

lol awesome.
Received a resume last year, the person had actually taken ALL of the resume content, shrunk it, and pushed it to the top of the page. They then put a thick border around it, leaving half the page blank. My mind was legitimately blown that I had even received that. The above post is a 100% complete lie

Havent been with a company that HR forces resumes and says interview these people. wtf is going on?
Normal process is HR hands over a bunch of resumes, IT manager or whatever looks them over and picks, sends those resumes back to HR and HR sets up interviews.
I only know this because I job hop in the IT world like a sumbeetch. Also, all 3 of them sound like my little pony loving sumbeetches.....wouldnothire/10
Never discuss money unless its an HR rep.....phuck dat other chit.
Never address myself in 3rd person
One page resume with 12 years, and 7 job experiences......I still get interviews/recruiters up my azz. I am just end user/server/network/systems support.
I think having Boeing, Husqvarna, and Fujitsu on there works wonders. Plus I have worked for companies with 10,000+ employees in one site.
OP, what is the position they applied for? Copy paste it brah.Last edited by JPF82; 06-15-2015 at 09:54 AM.

I would have if they didn't take it off our site already - the seven pager obviously didn't even read it or read up on our company.
So many fails..
It's normally not and they haven't interviewed with IT yet - that's my job. I seriously have no clue how any of these resumes made it past HR. I told a buddy in HR about it and he cringed too.

Have at it! I'll critique ya.
Position is for a solo tech in the area - troubleshooting and maintaining workstations/servers/etc
LOL I was wondering the same...
This time for sure! I'm gonna find out who did the Skype interview and if ANYONE actually read these resumes aside from me...
The key to experience is taking any job you can find at first to get a foot in the door/fill your resume - my first IT job was $10/hr, but it was a good stepping stone to where I am now.

This. Anything that looks good on a resume that will get your foot in the door for an interview. Then you can wow them with your personality/knowledge.
A lot of the of the time, they will hire someone that is a good cultural fit and willing to go the extra mile with tons of potential over someone that is more qualified.
Also, build your network. It's a huge plus to have someone on the inside vouching for you.Last edited by pondus_levo; 06-15-2015 at 10:11 AM.

Well first I'll start by saying ALL THOSE things = College... And the problem with that is
1) I wish I would have taken school seriously straight out of high school... but I didn't... So For the past year I've been working on making up for all of that but I'm still 1 year away from 2 year degree.
2) Not all people have the luxury to just focus on school and NEED entry level "odd jobs" just to SURVIVE after high school. And you try working 40 hours a week at 18... and trying to balance ur social life, school, and a 40 hr a week job.
Now, as someone who:
- JUST decided IT is what I wanted to do...
- Not going to finish AA(2 year degree) till end of this year. ( most internships require you to be near completion of 4 year degree)
- Got A+ cert as FIRST STEP... going to net+ but needs time and $$$
- Got bills to pay so need a job... would prefer an IT entry level job to gain much needed "experience" as opposed to wasting time at more odd jobs...
What do you suggest? I quit because I don't have anything on paper to prove I can do the job well other than my A+ cert and my own word? Go back to having dead end jobs? no thnx jeff... I for one am gonna spam everything motha fukin IT related job post I can till someone gives me a shot to prove myself. ( And yes I do think I'm MORE than qualified for basic PC tech work and Tier 1 Help desk "computer janitor" nonsense)Are you not entertained?

I don't make the final decision - I just provide the results of the interview (point scaled) to the IT director - if they're all chit, then I'll ask for more resumes for sure.
We had a guy show up for his in person interview wearing a marijuana leaf tie, no joke. That interview was over before it started.

That is fuking hilarious
If you want to be a true ******* you should point out the errors and make them address them and then end each interview with " I hope you put more care into your work than you did your resume"Skepticism is the chastity of the intellect, and it is shameful to surrender it too soon or to the first comer: there is nobility in preserving it coolly and proudly through long youth, until at last, in the ripeness of instinct and discretion, it can be safely exchanged for fidelity and happiness

LMAO would be fun!
I remember interviewing a guy a few years back...asked him how to install a network printer on a DHCP network. He literally said...
"First I would go to the network area, then I would add the printer"
...I let at least 30 seconds of awkward silence go by...
Asked if he had anything to add and he said no.
NEXT!!!

Do most companies (for entry level positions) not want to train? I think someone you can low ball in salary, then mold to do things EXACTLY as you want would be useful.
Coming from someone on the "No professional experiences/entry level side"... I would have told you I don't know because I've never done it, then promised you after you showed me once... id be coming for your job in 3 years or less.
Sighs the dream...Are you not entertained?

One thing about an IT technical interview - if you don't know the answer, don't try to bull**** your way through it. You're either right or you're wrong and I'll know the difference. Sometimes there is more than one answer as well. My first question when asked about installing a network printer would have been "does this network have a print server"?
Bonus points!!
