Cryptography was my most worrisome category going in and my report said I missed some cryptography stuff. There's just so many encryption types and authentication protocols that are very similar/can be combined and some of the questions were pretty daunting.

My suggestion if your not already familiar with a variety of crypto stuff, check out the objectives and memorize the ports, protocols and encryption/hashing types and their uses in a given scenario, alot of the other stuff (at least to me), was pretty familiar like physical security and attack/virus types.

    Final update on internet problems:

ISP tech replaced (again) the cable going into the modem and also swapped the router. There have been no problems since.

Was it router or cable? World may never know.

I wish I could go back to school but it's just not financially possible right now

In the mean time I'm still studying for A+ and CCNA cert.

I came across this website https://www.cybrary.it/ and I've never seen it mentioned or posted here (could be wrong).

It's got plenty of learning modules from A+ all the way to CISSP. All free.

hopefully it will help other newbies out there

have you had a chance to check out lynda yet? if so what are your thoughts?

one of my web dev classes this semester doesn't require any textbooks but they want us to get a subscription to lynda. would have to pay for it out of pocket so not sure if it will be worth it...

I haven't had much of a chance to use it, but I think you'd be in good hands with their courses. I've seen some of their HTML/CSS stuff and it was helpful. High quality, easy to understand, comes with exercises, etc.

If the subscription costs less or as much as a textbook, it'd probably be alright. I can't remember how much money it was. You'd have access to everything else too.

Anyone here wouldnt happen to know python programming would they?

if so could you try to help me out by reading this, if not they you do not have to read the rest...

...........I am really desperate in some help with loops. I have no programming backround but i am very interested in learning, currently i am taking a course called Computacional Investing and well the assignment has 3 parts

    1. create a function that has inputs of equity symbols and there allocations and output of certain calculations
    2. Create a portofolio optimizer and test all different "legal allocation" between four different equities. Legal meaning every allocation adding up to 1 or 100%
example: [0.1,0.3,0.4,0.2] and create a loop that will test all the different allocations and test it in my funcion created in part one and then show the result of the highest calculated ratio

    3. plot a graph of ideal portfolio

unfortionately i did part one and i know how to do part three but i cannot seem to understand how to create the loop.
    when i create a range
for i in range (___________) i am not sure how to put what i need in code =[

i found this on the internet but couldnt understand it
"4 nested for that loops that loop from 0.1 to 1.0 skipping any loops that do not add to 1.

    f_range = [num/10. for num in range(0,11)]
    for i in f_range:
    <other loops and code>"

could anyone explain this to me! thank you

    for i in f_range:

Essentially, the way i see it (no financial background if this is financial?), you have to create a loop and go through the numbers in range, with the outcome expecting a certain value (the 1 or 100% you mentioned).
To create a loop in Python you can go different ways:
    1)For loop
    2)While loop
    3)Do_While loop

The example you quoted says the following:
-a variable is created called f_range that is assigned a value of num/10 is the number is in range between 0 and 11; fyi i have no idea where you initiate the variable num but ok
-after that you use the standard variable i(just a variable used to iterate through the loop, you can use a Y or an X, it doesn't matter)
-for i in f_range says that for every i that is within the range of f_range, execute the following: <other loops and code>
-i reckon this is a nested loop since the quote implies there will be more coming within the body of the code

Best way to understand this is that you have a couple of things to pay attention to:
-initialization (where you initialize your loop)
-execution with the body of the loop
    -condition for continuation
-range of the loop (until what point the loops goes or run checks and then stops)
    -incrementation of the counter

Some would argue that you only need 3 components - initialization, condition and incrementation which is true, those are the 3 main factors, but range and the body are also parts, especially with the way scripting loops are constructed.
    Good luck brah.

Man, really would like to start studying for another cert. It's so hard because I already work so much, do off-hours stuff, always available, and I have a GF. It's so hard to set time out because I feel like I'm always working as is. So many huge projects going on at work right now. AirWatch is finally some-what up and running. Hopefully going to start deploying it next week.

Time management brah, I study on my commutes home while on the train and weekends. I do a little bit of reading while watching shows/games. Took me about a month to fully prepare for the Sec+ since I was already familiar with network IDS/IPS and firewalls.

This. I work FT, have a wife/kid and go to school full time (final semester I'm brick and mortar until I xfer to WGU online). I'm lucky enough to be able to study at work during down time. I squeeze in studying where I can. When it's a slow day at work, I'm reading/watching videos between tickets/calls/duties. I knocked out my Sec+ between Fall semester ending and a week into Spring semester (~1.5months), so that counts as a final for a class, I can cruise through the rest and I can focus my studies elsewhere. It's busy, but it fills my days. I can't honestly ever say I'm bored when I can be knocking out some studying if I'm otherwise dicking around on the misc (like now). If I'm miscing, I could be studying. Try it lulz

Yeah, this is true. I wake up at 6AM for the gym because I know I may not have time after work. I have to start dedicating at least 30 minutes a day for general study time. I'd really like to prep for my MCSA. I think it'll help me for sure.

God damn that hit me so much in the feels. Literally exactly like my day

    >8:00am-9:00am- Breakfast/Get rdy for work
    >9:30am-6:00pm- Work (albeit I have a lot of down time, still @ work for 8 hours)
    >6:30pm-8:30pm- Gym
    >9:00pm-9:30pm- Shower & Eat

    >9:30pm-12:00am- MY ONLY "Free Time" aka: Not Work/Fitness related. Only 2 1/2 fckin hours...Sometimes I game, Sometimes I study, Many times I have errands/things to get done...

I'm not complaining as I am happy where I am at in life. But the "system" that we all try so hard to succeed in really does not seem like a system which is here to benefit us.

I've been gearing up to take the 70-410 for my MCSA. I've figured out how to create a virtual router/switch/firewall based on FreeBSD in vmware so now I can start playing with DHCP/DNS servers without affecting my own home network and pissing off my roommates. If any of you brahs are using VMware I can give you a copy of the VHD and save you all the trouble.

You would have so much more free time if you woke up earlier and went to the gym before work

I've been doing this for a while now and the time management gainz are pissening

    >5am - wake up, drink coffee or preworkout
    >5:30am-7am - Gym. On the road for work by 7:30am
    >8:30am - 5pm - Work. I study the entire duration of my lunch too
    >6pm - Arrive home from work
    >10:30ishpm - Go to bed

This gives me 4+ hours after work to do whatever is I want/need to do. I've been studying an additional 2 hours after work so I'm getting in about 3 hours a day. My goal is to get my A+ cert by end of March, and CCNA by July.

I use to do the same as you and go to the gym after work and I by the time I got home, showered, ate it was 8:30 or 9pm (sometimes later) I had no time to do anything and I was way too tired to study.

The author looms above his page and thinks it's strange that at his age,
He cannot find the proper words to describe his only world.
One would think that in a life, where no two snowflakes are alike,
One would have a brilliant rhyme for each and every bit of time.

Took a security in distributed systems course. Mostly theory and just some implementation of DNSsec. Feels bad man.
