Not a bad idea, but for me I don't have that skill set. If you have those skills, then hell yeah I would do it! But you better be creative and it better not be a clone.

Word yeah I'm just working on a basic one that will function as a visual extension of my resume. Nothing fancy but will be built using nodejs and express.

I work in a specific business area and I dont have a website. I would like to see people that have a website/github, however I dont really think its relevant to my industry.

Hey boys, I have a EVGA GTX 970 I am looking to get rid of. Don't want the hassle of [H] forums or ebay, would rather try here first. Paypal payment, have original packaging.

I worked out of parsip' for three weeks this summer. Loaded up the family in the truck like Jed Clampet and 'went off to ye big city'. My wife didn't want to come back lol. She still says she wants to move out there.

The last time I was there I had a few meals at this place:

Yeah so I was hired with two other guys, one guy was let go after his probation. I'm sure It's about to happen to me because that guy was super good..no reason for them to fire him. Basically it's a chop shop where they take you in for three months and then hire someone else..unless they find the perfect fit I guess. I'm slow as hell and by Christmas I'm looking at unemployment.

How's it going everyone, haven't checked in here in a while. My last term at WGU started back in September and I've pretty much been in a cycle of work > come home play with the kid > study >sleep. 47 credits down so far this term and only 8 more to go til I'm done. Project+ is slowing me down a little bit right now, it's a fight to stay interested in it enough to absorb the material.

Nice dude! I find it incredible how much of the curriculum people can bang out when they're motivated. I don't know about the next few years, but I definitely see this model expanding over the next 10 to 20 years, with self paced and nanodegree programs becoming more prominent.

Things are good. Learning about OpenShift and containerization. We're finding some strong challenges with our legacy applications. One of the possible solutions is rewrite the application (could take up to two years) rather than containerize the current iteration of it lol. Working on completely overhauling our Jenkins environment. Learning some Groovy and Ruby along the way.

The project+ course slowed me down too, it's not too difficult but a lot of reading and material you need to understand.

What classes are left and did you look at the capstone project yet? I enjoyed the capstone a lot, it brought back a lot of concepts from the project+ course.

My first three terms I barely did the minimum classes required, even fell short a class on my last term. When this term started I decided I was just ready to get it over with so after getting through Net+ and Sec+ in the first month I took off. It definitely will expand I think, especially once other colleges realize that only a small percentage of students accelerate and save money. There will always be people like my coworker's sister who spent the entire 6 month term on Spreadsheets.

After project+ I only have the capstone left. I haven't looked at it yet but read a few example ones before. I think I'll enjoy it and picking a topic for it shouldn't be hard, probably going to write about a project I've done here at work.

I haven't taken the new one, but I've looked at the topics covered and holy fuk its very close to the CCNP these days. And it's about time they added BGP, I really wished they had that on the on the old CCNA I took.

It should follow the old CCNA exam format with new topics thrown in there. So be ready for lots of lab based questions.

Get CCNA and keep on working towards CCNP. There is not a large difference (when I did them 3 years ago) between the two, HUGE overlap for many topics.

I am in Day 1 of the CCSP bootcamp, spent almost all day learning the ins and outs of ISC2 test questions .... Makes me hate the entire process even more, realizing the funky wording of the questions to test applicable knowledge of topics because ISC HAS to do it for hiring managers to rely on some letters in a title to "certify" this person knows their ****.

I feel like a lot of certs are no longer to aid the employee in advancing their skill sets, but instead they are a crutch for employers who can't figure out what they want or how to get what they want. I.E. Employer says "We need someone who has 5 years of technical experience and broad security knowledge" but the employer has no idea what that might actually look like. So they have ISC2 CISSP define that, then they say "we want a CISSP".

    /rant

Just frustrated that certs are losing their value in my eye. Not all, but some are. CCNA is still valid, because its so technical. MS are still valid. These vague "security" certs can suck a dik.

Once I finish my A+ cert next month. I’m looking at taking some networking classes for the Network + and possibly adding a Linux course.

Do you guys recommend to get more involved with Linux? Or just get the basics?

Get more involved with Linux especially with the terminal. If you ever end up working for a SaaS company or a any company that manages their own cloud / server farm, they will most likely be using linux as the underlying operating system.

Absolutely. The best thing I ever did was switch from 100% Windows server administration to 95% Linux server administration

    Good!

Yes, they asked me to pick 3 certs and my boss would select the one I would take this year (CISSP is next year). I presented CHFA, CISA and CCSP. He picked CCSP (because we are a cloud company), I wanted CHFA because it would knock out 4 more WGU credits for a master (giving me 8 with the CEH, to start on a masters next year). I figured he would go with CISA because of how often we work with auditors...but he went with CCSP because he already has it and thought it was useful.

Sec+ is good for complete noobs in IT or non-technical people that need to understand basic security concepts and terms. Its GREAT for that. All of our auditors (CPA-type people) have Sec+ so we can at least be sure when they are requesting "Firewall changes for Q1" they mean "firewalls" and not "IPS" or "IDS". And I don't mean to say Sec+ is easy, but it is an exam that tests on rote memorization of terms. Its not cheap either! But it does check a box for the government and many HR gate keepers.

The ISC2 exams are rote memorization paired with application of those terms, but the trouble comes in when the test writers can't just ask straight forward questions...they need to use words like "preclude" with "MOST of the time". The wording of the questions are uniformly terrible and the question writers primary language is English. Just frustrating.
