do you think eating junk food is ok for a weight lifter as long as i eat protein?

All i really want is the muscle to grow in my arms, chest and shoulders. I run a few times a week and my legs are already ripped. My arms are formed but i want them bigger than they are.

So do you think eating junk food is ok for a weight lifter as long as i eat plenty of protein?

Hi Dude! How about this- Get yourself a canister of Whey protein and a shaker jar,[Walmart has it cheap]and when you need something sweet make a protein shake, comes in lots of flavors. In so far as junk food...no.I'm not sayin' you've got to eat clean 24/7 but IF you're serious about bodybuilding, you gotta walk the walk and you might as well hear it now.The buff guys you see and want to look like aren't downing candy bars and bags of chips, you can't be half-hearted about this.Eat right and workout like your life depended upon it.And good luck.

You can eat junk food if you want to. But, what exactly is your goal? Define that and then find out if you should be in a deficit or surplus for calories. You can follow iifym lifestyle but that doesn't always seem realistic.

It does depend on your goals.

Let's say I already met my protein requirement for the day, but I need to get another 600 calories, I can definitely eat junk food to get them in lol. If you're knowledgeable on dieting/nutrition, you can eat whatever you want.

Yeah it depends on your goals whether you want to be healthy or unhealthy. You might look healthy on the outside eating junk foods but your insides most likely won't. I never got very far cheat bulking and notice better gains from quality whole foods and meats. I think it definitely makes a difference. Now if you're on aas, you can get away with it but it's a whole different game so don't take it from the pros or fitness industry people who are juicing. That said a cheat meal here or there is ok I just don't think it's good to replace proper nutrition with dirty foods. In fact I think eating something like good pizza or going out to eat at a nice place once a week is better than staying fully clean bc then your stomach bitches out if you do ever go out like a socialized human being. It's not practical to be 100% clean imo and boosts your energy junking out once in a while. But in the long term and everyday, replacing macros with **** is not good.

Within reason is the key word here... and some one who never eats junk food will always have an advantage over some one who does.

based on what data? Numerous studies have shown that IIFYM works just as well as clean eating. And your last statement is false. "Always" lol. On what data? Sure go ahead and eat talapia and asparagus, I'll stick with the foods I love while looking just as good or better.

One can get away with eating some junk food, but worrying only about hitting your macros is a poor dietary philosophy. If you're not eating a variety of healthy whole foods, you are missing a wealth of nutrients (e.g. phytonutrients in vegetables) that promote health and protect against cancer and other diseases. Virtually every Registered Dietitian will back me up on this one. You don't need to go to extremes, but you should aim to consume plenty of whole foods, not just processed fun-foods, for this reason.

As someone who has been an advocate of the "dirty bulk", I can say that looking at it realistically, I was making excuses for having weak will-power. Off season means you can be more lax about things, but you gotta think about whether you're putting on weight for the scale, or muscle. I've put on a lot of weight before (about 50lbs), and ended up with 5 pounds of solid muscle, or so. You'll put on all sorts of weight, but have to work that much harder to get it off. It's a bad cycle, and this is the first year in my life that I'm not having my typical off-season. I was up to 235lbs up until 4 months ago, and down to 210lbs now. By the time I'm done getting rid of this fat, I might be around my starting weight of 180lbs. That was a huge waste of time. Indulge when you need to, and when it fits, but if you're in this section (men's physique hopeful), you'll want to keep things in check, so you're not playing catch-up.

In the past 3 years I've given up pop, and I drank a lot, chips of all kinds, french fries, pop-tarts (again, a lot) and some other things but junk food is a tough one. Not candy bars or chocolate, never been big on those, but little debbies - cookies. When you have a wife who buys them it's hard.

My best buddy who eats 3300 calories per day, thin as hell, sometimes would eat clean, and he has ripped muscles and goes 5-times to the gym every week.

But when he's bulking on 3300 calories, I've seen him eat fried Chik-fil-a 3 sandwiches IN A ROW.

Here I am on a cut, but this guy who used to eat clean, sometimes just straight up eats junk food to get his protein.

Chicken sandwiches, pizzas, cheeseburgers, all very good protein as long as you aren't overeating or living sedentary.

I've been told by people they just flat out eat delicious ice cream. During Thanksgiving week, I ate a chit ton of really spectacular 5-star restaurant foods, junk foods (such as deep dish pepperoni pizza), creme brulee, kahlua+bailey+coffee, mochalattechill from cinnabon, thick ass ice creams, FIBurger cheeseburger, fried chicken, white fried rice, Little Tokyo/Sarku Japan mall chicken+fried-rice, lava chocolate cake, BJ's pizzooki dessert, etc. All in a 2 week period. I only gained barely 2 lbs. Because it was vacation I went to gym 5 times in 2 weeks, but still not bad for vacation.

I dated a girl who drank like a gorilla shoving down 5-7 whiskey shots like it's nothing. I dumped her for her alcoholism, but I had to drink a lot of whiskey in that time period and I always drank like WAY LESS than her. But still, a lot of extra calories, and I still barely gained like 2-3 lbs over a few months.

considering 70% of your body comes from diet, i don't suggest eating junk food, although you have those guys "Eat dirty, train dirty"
