my York collection is growing, I now have 10 pre usa milled 45's, 3 milled and 1 unmilled 35's, 2 unmilled 10's, 2 milled and 6 unmilled 5's.
Will try and get pictures during the refinishing process.
I am having some trouble locating some 2.5's, I know I probably won't get milled 2.5's but just looking for that era 2.5's unmilled.
anyone have a lead to get some 2.5's?

When you have picked up the iron smelting pot using your forearms, and you've snatched the rice grains out of the blind man's open palm, all will be revealed to you. In the meantime, what do the sides/rims of the 45s look like? Are they the same height as your other 45s? Do they have USA on them?
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

That middle picture looks like one of mine (guessing you grabbed that example from earlier post?) - the rim of this plate is shown in the attached picture. It's the bottom plate, or left-most plate, depending on how the picture is oriented when it posts. This plate, and another with the same big rectangular milling pattern across the diameter came in a set with what I think is an 80's power bar (no pic on hand, sorry). The set also included 2 milled 25's and un-milled 10's ,5's , 2.5's.
Note: The other two plates in the rim picture that I'm attaching didn't come in the same set and neither have the big rectangular milling pattern across the diameterLast edited by BrotherLo; 06-11-2015 at 01:41 PM.

Finally go the Roundheads & Buns painted. Proudly stole brotherlo's paint scheme.
If anyone knows the answer to this, I'd to know; how accurate are roundheads vs buns?
I weighed 3 roundheads; 95s are actually 97 & 98 lb each. My 100 is 106 lb.
The buns (40s) are 41 & 41.5/42 each.
Seems like the buns are more accurate, but my sample size is far to small to make a judgement call. I'm curious if this is the case with these.
They are 35s, lol.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

Nice paint scheme SK👍👍
I'm looking to ship a single 5kg plate tomorrow. It won't fit in a small flat rate box. Should I use my own small box or will a medium flare rate be cheaper?

SmokinJoe87 helped me identify my roundheads. They are all fatheads; no USA stamps at all.

so what's a fatman? I'm guessing it has something to do with head shape. further guessing that one of the two db's in the attached picture might be yer fatman (neither are usa stamped). further, further guessing it's the non-pointy headed 55 and not the pointy 50. Are fatmans a particular production run?

Fatman is a term coined by grip guys for early generation roundhead blobs. The heads of these early generation roundheads we more rounded/angled than later generations. They are known for being heavier than non-fatman blobs as well. The heavier weight (sometimes 53-55 pounds for a 100 blob) coupled with the steeper angle of the ends make them quite the grip strength feat.
I have only known of the bigger sizes being referred to as this, so I can't comment on the 50 vs 55 in your picture. I can say that my pre-USA 50's are the same shape as yours, but I have also seen pre-USA 50's with a flatter end similar to your 55 also.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #72 []---[]

Yeah, I looked at them more... I meant to edit my post & now I look like a fool lol.
I am certain the 100 is, but not so much for the 95s. The funny thing is that the blobs on the 100 don't "seem" to stick out as much as the picture of that 55 lber. The lack of a USA stamp & weighing 106 lb lead me in that direction. The main issue is that how accurate where the non-fatman dumbbells? Is there a certain spectrum of weights (say 100s were 99 to 101) vs this grossly "fat" dumbbell? I have no "control" in this experiment, so to speak.
I'll get some pics up later & we'll see what's up.
I'm still green with all of this, so that's my excuse for now, lol. I'd like to know though b/c a fat man db collection would be sweet.Last edited by Synthetickiller; 06-12-2015 at 03:47 PM.

I got some pics taken. The lighting is bad, so I might have to drag the damn things outside.
First, the 100 lber. It's coming in at 105.2 lb. The scale is calibrated & checked against my Ivanko CBPPs.
Now here's the 95. It's weighing in at 97.4 lb, so not terribly heavy.
Here's the 55. It's weighing 56.2 lb.
Again, none have the USA stamp.
I doubt the 95s & 55 are "fatheads". They don't weigh too much more & don't appear to stick out very much on the ends of the blobs.
I'm not sure of the 100. It's 105.2 lb, so possibly on the lower end of the fathead weight range. The angle doesn't "look" too large, but I have nothing to compare any of them too, so without contrast, it's difficult & an educated guess at best.
Here's the video Joe sent me.
Now, looking at previous posts, I'd want to have a "pointy" end to my 100, but looking at the video, the end of a 100 lb fatman is more rounded & does not tapper as much. I'd "argue" the 100 I have looks like a fatman. As for the 95s, I'm not sure either way, as for the 55. I'd guess no, but I have nothing to compare to.
For anyone with a set of both, I'd like to know if the handles are the same length. It'd be nice to know if hand length would be a reliable way to pick out a fathead vs non-fathead. That or overall length (end of one blob to end over another).Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

Scored a single Deep Dish!
I want to return it as close to its original glory as possible. I know some of these questions may have already been covered but I'm having trouble finding them so hear goes:
1. The lettering on the DD originally appears to be painted white or am I wrong and it was silver? (Question was raised on p.55 of the original YBC thread but I see no reply to it.)
2. What sheen was the factory black paint most likely to be (flat, satin, semi-gloss, gloss)?
3. Will a single deep dish allow me to use the DD credential after my # in the signature line ? (Obviously, I hope to someday find its long lost twin and have a pair. However, I have more than I will ever need of York vintage milled plates for functional use so its pretty much a vanity piece for my gym to stare at and admire. Therefore, 1 is enough to make me happy. I just want to restore it as best I can to make it as original as possible.)
Thanks in advance for any answers and advice.

1. White, sometimes silver.
2. One heavy coat of semi-gloss black.
3. No, you need two pairs or four plates. You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

And one must not question the wisdom of Master Po. His wisdom is infinite, as is the cultivation of iron collecting. It will bring a great awakening that will rise and fall into emptiness. Like the emptiness of a Milo Triplex found at a yard sale for five dollars.
Do you have any other questions?++++++++
