Are any of these York plates more valuable or harder to find than the other plates in this set?
The pancakes are fairly uncommon, but I never got any more for them than any other Yorks.

I didn't realize the pancake plates are blank on one side until today. Of course 15lb plates are somewhat uncommon to begin with. I just wish they said YORK on them somewhere.

I don't even know if they are York for certain. I've come across them twice and both times they were among a slew of exclusively York plates, but I really don't know. I'm sure you can find them on eBay if you look through completed and current auctions.

Thanks for the idea, I'll check ebay tonight. I'm going to rinse and wipe down my "new" plates in a little while to see what I have exactly, and how nice everything cleans up. I may find more clues upon closer inspection. Who knows....

I wanted to thank you again for your input Duplicitous, you were spot on with pricing the Holdtite collars. I posted them on Ebay late last night for $160/best offer and they sold this morning for full price. I woke not feeling too positive about them since I had 4 offers by 7am (lowest was $40 shipped!), but someone serious stepped up.

Now I just have to sell the extra York plates I don't want.....and deal with idiots insulting me to my face (instead of online-Haha!). I guess it's all part of the "fun" though....

I told myself I'd never start collecting roundheads unless I could buy a decent starter set for a reasonable price.

    35-65:

Also picked up a pair of shorty oly handles and 4 collars that need some cleanup:

Thanks - I've had the dumbbell rack sitting in storage for quite some time, nice to finally be able make use of it.

There was an isometric rack that I thought about grabbing, but I really have no idea what I'd do with it, and now that I'm in the garage I can't really spare the space for a novelty piece.

I haven't seen the short handles, but have seen the collars on ebay quite often.

Very nice. Someone was selling a set of 5-100 in my area last year, but usually you only find 1-2 pairs at a time.

Nothing too extraordinary to report here, but I did get my recently purchased York 5' barbell cleaned up. Obviously not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm excited to replace my old Chinese bar with this one for lighter accessory work. I prepped the bar really well before applying 4 or 5 coats of gun bluing and it actually looks nice and uniform.

I added an aluminum sleeve of .040" wall tubing onto the end of the bar with some Loctite 648 so my 1-1/8" plates will fit the York bar with a closer tolerance (plus the ends of the bar were pretty beat up looking). Now I just need to install the inner collar and tubing to the other side and come up with some appropriate collars to hold the plates on.

I was sorta certain I could sneak by with slightly too much interference fit between the bar and tubing by heating the tube and chilling the bar.....the tubing seized on the bar about 5" shy of being fully installed....I tried sweet talking it, using a delicate touch, and even some gentle persuasion to coax it on the rest of the way. I think I went too far with the sweet talk and delicate touch. WHOOPS!!!

Actually after seeing it assembled it looks like a York WW portable power rack like the one pictured, and appears to come with dip attachments and bar hooks. I'm intrigued now, even if I still don't know what I'd do with it.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

It was part of my two new years resolutions. The second was to stop fapping so much. Ive only accomplished one so far.

The bar cleaned up really nice. I put a coat of oil on it and will let it sit for a little before I use it. I took the sleeves off and greased it up, spins fine.

Can relate to all of this except owning a York bar, which looks great!

Picked up this York portable power rack. Not sure what I need it for, but it looks happy by the roundheads. It did come with the original plywood base, but it is fairly rough, so I'll make a new platform for it.

    That's old school cool.

If I ever get my hands on one, I'll modernize it with weight storage and a heavy duty upper cross member, so the platform can be ditched.

Yeah, it was actually sitting at PIAS for a good month for $99. I passed on it when I picked up my roundheads because I didn't know what I'd do with it, but since it was still there the next time I stopped in I figured it was destiny. The PIAS owner also threw in a pair of York spinlock collars and another pair of the small York dumbbell/curl collars like I picked up with the roundheads/dumbbell handles above, so it turned into a pretty sweet deal.

I swear that the first time I saw the rack (in pieces before PIAS assembled it) he had the dip/parallel bar attachments for it, but I'm either imaging things or they disappeared in his stockroom somewhere. Maybe they'll turn up.

The rack itself is pretty cool - the j-hooks are captive on the channels and a detachable pin is inserted to lock them in where you want them. I've always wanted to see someone take something like a Rippetoe rack and slap the stupid out of it, detachable j-hooks instead of bolts, plate storage tier, multi-grip pullup bar, monolifts, spotter arms, deep enough to squat in, etc.

I think you're giving yourself more credit than you deserve, this post excepted...
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Found these York dumbbells while skimming Goodwill. Paid $24 for all 4. Too light to be useful, but knowing this thread, figured they might be worth trying to flip.

Anyone know anything about them, like whether these are even US made?

The experts will chime in but I believe that's the York Fitness china stuff. Still it's probably worth $1.50 lb right now.

    York Dorks,

I've been buying pancake plates again to put together another set of pros and some of the plates I picked up are York branded. These are true pancake plates, not the fatter plates that I usually see around. Anyone know anything about them? I never knew York made traditional pro dumbbells/plates.

Maybe not even that. They are too light to be useful and too ugly for lawn art. Probably a limited market.
