York change plates. A little off?

Hey folks, been lurking for a while but never joined. I just got a set of change plates off ebay today. I noticed that the lettering on the 10's are a bit different and there's a "3" stamped on top of the one that looks a little less crisp. Otherwise, the 2 plates are just about identical. Anyone know what's going on here? Thanks!

Looks like they used arial font on one and times new roman on the other. Could be worse. They could have used wingdings.

I've seen similar numbers, must notably "0" on plates. The consensus is that they are foundry markings, though no one has come up with an explanation as to what they mean. As for the two 10s, the explanation is likely different castings. York often would mix and match plates for sale, either individually or in sets. You can always track down other matching plates, if it's an OCD thing. I've done on some of my sets.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

There's a similar discussion on an FB page, I hear. Same answers there, from what I've been told.

Hello everyone, new to this thread and forum... I tried to find the answer myself but got a little bit confused. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Are the USA marked plates from the 90's manufactured in USA or off shore? From reading the front page, it sounded to me like it USA marked was the last batch made in USA, but someone else told me that any "USA marked" plates are made off shore.

Also..I see the terms pre-usa and post-usa used a lot in conversations, is this referring to the plates before the 90s?

idk.. this probably sounds dumb to you guys, but i'd appreciate the clarification .

The 1990's era USA-marked plates were made in the U.S. Who told you otherwise?

Thanks for the clarification! The person who said that isn't on the forums... someone irl.

So is it safe to assume plates from the 90's that aren't marked USA are made off shore?

More than likely, yes. York shifted it's cheaper plates to off-shore production and marketed U.S.-produced plates to sports teams, universities, and other commercial customers. That said, your statement is overly broad. Pre-1994 (thereabouts), York produced both the traditional plates without the markings.

    York foundry mold

    Hi All,
I have an item York collectors may be interested in. It is a vintage York Foundry mold for 1" 25 lb and 1 1/4 lb plates. I have been told that it may be the only one of its kind. I understand that not even the York museum has one. This came from the York Foundry in Columbia pa U.S. Lock and Hardware. The building in no longer there. Verified authentic.
I put this item up for auction on ebay is anyone is interested.

Nice looking set! Saw a pair of York 25lb DD's on ebay the other day and wondered if someone here might have snagged them. Forums seem to be going the way of the dodo bird, I spend more time on Instagram looking at equipment and get most of my new product notifications from there these days. Kinda sucks though, aside from 1-2 sentence headlines there isn't much worthwhile discussion.

Those have a really cool classic vintage look. Like a marbling effect.

Came pretty close myself a couple months ago, but someone grabbed them locally for $800 before I could message. Had them listed for like $400 in the beginning!

    No, brah. Weight is weight.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

    Noise in Sleeve of Barbell

I was told that the York weights in the picture are at least 30 years old and think that the barbell (it does not have any markings) in the picture is a split sleeve York barbell of the same vintage as the weights. There is a quick sliding or clunky metal sound inside one of the sleeves of the barbell when that side is moved higher or lower than the other sleeve. Is the noise/moving metal in the sleeve something that can be addressed by taking apart the sleeve?

What you hear is the bronze bushing. You can take the sleeve off and take a look at the inside. Its pretty easy to do.

Just a heads up that Gov Deals has some Roundheads up for auction in SW Ohio:

There are some oddballs in there too though.
