I used the freestanding bp station, no safeties (obviously if I was doing a plate or more I'd move to a cage but this is some pretty small weight.) That rack is a bit high for my t-rex arms so setting my shoulders at the beginning and reracking at the end was harder than normal. I wanted to see how I'd do with less than ideal conditions because who knows what kind of equipment the comp will have. And yep, even when everything's not exactly how I want it I can still hit 30 reps! I'm going to figure out an alternative way to properly set my shoulders, arch, and leg drive with rack that's a little too high.
    So smart!!!

I need to be able to effectively work with any situation (actually I can already, but I guess just make it smoother for maximum efficiency.) I'm good at bench press, but I want to get so good I can bench a fallen log in the forest that's lopsided, on fire, and has a bear cub napping on the end of it (for at least 30 reps.)

Long run was LONG. I had to start this run pretty late because I got held up at various BMVs trying to get chit done and having to drive to 3 different cities, ugh! I made some progress with that but still need to go back to the title bureau and BMV at least once more next week. The BMV is my mortal enemy. I even called ahead to make sure I knew what they needed, they told me one thing, and of course when I come in they go - Whattttt no you don't need THAT, why would you think that? One of the places I went (due to the financing company's very incorrect instructions) was downtown and in a gov building with guards and full blown TSA style chit. They made me take off my belt and my pants almost fell down because I had to walk pretty damn far to get it back. Cut of peace - this is what happens when you drop a weight class.

Anyway I didn't drink much water for the first half of the day due to having to sit around in waiting areas for hours and not knowing when magical bathrooms of peace would present themselves. Didn't eat anything until maybe 3 either, so my schedule was pretty screwed up going into a long run. I made it work though, ran the whole 11 miles like a wild gazelle.

Last trail race of the Full Moon Series is Monday night, 5 miles. No running Saturday but perhaps a couple easy miles Sun. No more really long runs before the half marathon either. It'll be handy to spread out my mileage up until then and get some good 5 or 6 miler runs in there.

Yeah that's the last long run til then. I've 11 twice and 10 at least four times this summer, should be good to go! Thanks, gonna run the trail race slow and methodically to not trip over a giant pine tree.

Hobbes you will be coming to my "neck of the woods" tonight!! I live less than 10 miles from this race! This is a legit trail race! The lake trail is fairly flat, with some good hills, the cross country trail has some really tough inclines depending on which direction the course takes, and salt run is hilly and has some staircases!!! I'll be there tonight!!! See ya later!!!!

FULL MOON 5 MILE TRAIL RACE

    Location: Cuyahoga Valley National Park
    Distance: 5 miles
Goal: don't fall or get injured or impaled on a pine tree
    Time: 1:00:23

    Avg HR: 153
    Peak HR: 168
    Elevation Gain: 632'
    Weather: 88 and sunny

*Pre-race did Dynamic Warm Up Routine
    *Post-race stretched for 15min

Whoa, that was a legit trail race! Wasn't aiming for a particular time, just finish it in one piece and don't do a Superman dive like last time. This race was VERY uphill, every mile had brutal uphills, and those wooden trail stairs - TONS of stairs. This was the most challenging run I've ever done. The hills were so steep and most people stopped at all hills after a couple miles. I ran slow AF but ran the hills. I had to hike-waddle up the stairs though. I couldn't figure out any other way to approach that and saw no one run those, would've tripped for sure. I passed a lot of people on each incline. Some people were having a terrible go at these hills, lots of cursing shouted out by everyone when another wild hill appeared and at one point someone pulled off to the side and was sobbing, srs. And man were people tripping and falling everywhere! I saw two people fall in the first mile alone, and that was only out of the little pack of people I was running with. After the finish line I saw people sitting over to the side with bloody knees and elbows.

Very fun, yet hard race. Again my Garmin lost connection through part of the race. It doesn't do well any time I run in deep woods. Oh and there's a small lake at this park with some docks but no railings. I was walking around before the race and this guy drops his iphone into the lake! I'm like oh chit did you really just drop something in there?! He didn't know how deep the lake was so I went and got some branches (convenient we were in a forest lulz) so we could see how deep the water was. So for anybody who saw me running around with branches that's what that was all about lmao. He jumped in there in his undies and managed to get it back though. Hopefully your phone made it out alive, Soggy Iphone Guy.

Race swag! The shirt is one of the comfiest race shirts of the year, and the medal is really sweet - the center spins, ooooo, ahhhhh! You got the medal for doing all 3 trail races, a total of 12 miles. And since I destroyed my race number by falling on it at the last race they had to give me a new one (you were supposed to turn it in so they could mark it special that you did all 3 races) and I was legit worried they were thinking I was trying to swindle someone on the medal LMAO. I let them know what happened and of course they had no issues giving it to me, although that would be hilarious if one of the race volunteers started a fight with this sweaty, exhausted person after 5 miles of Hills of Death about that. I've been hanging up my race numbers and souvenirs in my home gym, it's coming out nicely!

You know you're a real runner when you develop a collection of medals and/or race bibs. I still have a TON of the numbers I used to pin to my singlet in a drawer somewhere, most of them with the pins still in them. I don't have a lot of medals, because I ran in smaller races, but I do have a couple of trophies for winning 1-3 place.

Anyway, you should NEVER feel bad for walking in a trail race. Trail races are hard as fuark. There will be walking for just about EVERYONE on the uphills and your time was still super good. Also yay for not getting injured or dying. Also, now whenever I have a bad workout I'll be like 'well, at least I didn't drop my iPhone in a river.'

Huh, I didn't know I ran a trail race, lol.

Sounds like a great race, yay for no dives! Nice spinner medal too, very fancy, I like the moons on it. I'm expecting to watch your lifting videos over time, and just watching the walls become more, and more covered with medals, race numbers, and such.

nice race Hobbes!!! I'm sorry I missed you!! I started the race, ran 3 miles and was done. I just wasn't into the heat and frankly, the course! Most of this course I ran in my leg of the Burning River 100 mile relay! It's tough! and I wanted no more of it!! hee hee!!! I also face planted in the first mile, trying to pass someone! Fortunately I didn't get hurt.
Now you can see why our local HS's cross country team is so good! My son trained in those trails/hills.

Yeah some spots were plain dangerous for running. Haha I had the same thought, whatever suckiness ensues at least I didn't drop my phone in a river!!

Anything with moons makes me giggle, that's my favorite medal so far lol. Yes! I put up a new section of pegboard in my home gym too to display the goods.

Oh man, you fell?! Crap, glad you're not injured. Soooo many people fell during that one. I'm surprised nobody broke a wrist/ankle. And yeah the heat was BRUTAL. I saw you ran an 11 mile run Sunday the day before? Haha no wonder you were like nope, that's it. And wow that is crazy they train over there!

Hobbes I usually fall at least once in trail runs! That is another reason why I limit how often I run in them! I did not get hurt fortunately! My 11 miler the day before went well!!! I plan to keep my long run in the 10-12 mile range throughout winter.

Oooh maxed out on the 105lb bench, I can see. That's nice. I too feel like I can barely keep up with your workout log--you do so many cool things omg. But then, I guess one might say the same about my log, which is also annoyingly all BJJ these days. At least you even lift, bro.

I'm especially impressed that your deadlifts and squats don't seem to suffer at all from your running.

Hi Ham! Been a bit but glad to see you still kicking much ass!

So sorry to hear about your aunt (I know it's late but I had to play catch up!)

    Lovin the race/trails/general badassery!
If this were easy, everyone would walk around ripped.

Yeah, I'm sticking to mainly pavement where there's nothing to trip over but my own feet. Same here on the long runs, although I'll probably have to become buddies with the treadmill. Last winter was plain dangerous for a while to run outside. If there's cleared off pavement I can do it, but lots of times it was ice or snow on top of ice.

Hell yeah I'm cool! I love your log, it's one of the first I always check on. I do feel stupid commenting on BJJ a lot of times because I have no idea what I'm talking about, but am in srs awe of the fighting sports, SRS.

Me too, never sore while running, maybe it's all the foam rolling.
