If medschool go biology of course.
IF you want to make 45-60k your entier life then stick with biology (research). However, you could get into research for private companies like P&G/pharma and make a ton of money, its just harder to get into.
if yuo want to start out making 55-60 right out of school and work up to 100+ go with MIS/IT.
I highly recommend focusing on big data somehow weather it be MIS or an architect. Companies have so much data and are starting to realize they can utilize it to help save money or sell more product by analyzing it. They either build their own analysis teams within or contract with other companies.
My wife was MIS major in college and started at 60K right out of college in 2010, she has already worked her way up to more than 100k a year. However, she did bust her ass in college and had 2 internships over the summer. She essentially manages and is in charge of directing the way big data services works within the company.
Meanwhile I got a MS in biology and currently make like 46k (However, I knew this going in but I enjoy doing research)Last edited by MURedHawk235; 05-05-2015 at 11:55 AM.

Babysitter home with young boy and young girl. She get call parents, who are working night shift in factory asking if everything is fine. She tells them da, but the large statue of Lenin in daughter's room is unsettling.
Later, she is arrested by KGB for calling great father of motherland "unsettling". She is sent to count trees in Siberia.
Such is life in Moscow.

I can't even begin to tell you how sh*tty life really is once you have that "career".
brb most decent paying jobs people just sit in an office in front of a computer for 9 hours a day. You are right about one thing, people are not supposed to live like this."One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Most biology PhD programs pay YOU to pursue the degree because you're working in a lab. You're essentially a staff/student hybrid. And yes, for the most part if want to get anywhere beyond being a lab tech you need an advanced degree for biology research. Coding is becoming more and more prevalent in biology to deal with handling large data sets, but personally I'd stick a gun in my mouth if I had to debug code every single day in an IT department.

It is true they pay you to pursue a degree but the pay is chit. Most assistantships/stipends, hell even postdoc don't pay that well. While in school you will get like 1200-1600 a month. And that is only while school is in sessions, the summer pay is pretty much nothing unless the school gives you a scholarship or your PI gives you additional support.
The national average for a post doc is just under 50k, unfortunately.
Pretty crazy that post docs/phd students who devote their life to doing research on diseases and such make so little.
For people who really enjoy doing research but want to make a lot of money, I would recommend getting a MS or phd in nursing. They can make 6 figures fairly easily while doing clinical research.
