Is there a reason you went for a 7 day cycle? Even Lyle says 2 days is minimum for a solid refeed. I have a feeling that perhaps 7/3 would be more effective. Thoughts?

I've chosen the 5/2 because I have a harder time controlling my intake on the weekends. This will give me the wiggle room, plus a weekly refeed. With the refeed cycle so short, it may be even be considered a refeed. The goal is that I'll never feel like I'm craving carbs.

So far, so good. I get hungry late morning, but it's more general hunger, not those carb cravings we know so well. Because I eat 1600 calories between 12:30 and 8:30, I've never hungry at that point. Not a single carb craving this week, even though I've had less than 100g carbs per day. Sat-Sun will see 370g/day, so I imagine that will get both my glycogen and leptin up so I can last another 5 days sub 100g.

Hey op, congrats on the progress. I was actually linked to this thread from mine:

    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...post1359725381

We are on a similar journey. I started March 4th and it's been about 2 months. Doing fierce 5 and have similar macros to you but eating 2000 calories. So far I average 3.5-4 lbs lost a week and went from 372 to 337.

    We gonna make it brah

So, first week of Mon-Fri IF is down. It went really well. I was hungry all morning the first few days, but I didn't notice it much at all the last two. Macros were decent. I was having a hard time hitting the protein target at first, so I had to up the protein powder consumption, which gets the protein up without affecting the carb and fat macros much. I ended the week with the following Macros:

    1632 cal/day
    176 protein
    59 fat
    105 carbs

Next week will I'll have lower carbs; I was just getting rolling this week.

Now I'm onto my 3000 cal/day @ 370g carbs for Sat-Sun. My son's 7th birthday party is tomorrow, so I won't mind eating some chips and pizza. Everything's turning up Millhouse!

I want to provide a bit of motivation to the newbies whom may be having a hard time getting rolling with their weight-loss. First of all, read this thread (get started, at least):

    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=898532

For me, it allowed me to put myself in a state where I could visualize the goal, and visualization is one of the strongest techniques used in sports, careers and general achieving. I also want to contribute some of my own thoughts, because in the past few weeks, there has been a noticeable change in the behavior of persons around me. Please remember, I'm still 290 lbs, but I hide my weight well, and the confidence you get from feeling like this is unimaginable.

    Did you get more stares?
No obvious "stares" yet, but I was at Toys R Us the other night, picking up a new bike for my son's birthday. An attractive late 30's woman, who was dressed nicely and appeared to have money (or was aspirational) walked past me. As she got within eight feet, she looked me up and down ... and back up again. She tried to be subtle, but I indeed noticed and I didn't hit me until she was already out the door. It's not like I could do anything anyway, as I'm happily married with children, and she had her son with her anyway. LOL

Regardless, I was wearing my best office outfit, which is exciting in and of itself, since I could never look good in that kind of clothing previously.

On that note, I do get more attention from cute girls, even ones much younger. A young (23) and very attractive/fit girl at my kids' daycare is extremely friendly to me when I show up to drop off or pick up the kids. The other day, she nervously commented on my handsome outfit, adding, "I've never seen you in this one before," which implies she's keeping track.

Also at daycare; I had entered the room to pick up my youngest daughter, and one of the women had her back to me. She turned around to come the way I came and was startled to see me standing there (I tread lightly for a big guy). After gasping, she exclaimed, "oh my god, you scared me," and then reached out and put her hands on my stomach, clearly flirting. You can imagine this never happened to 420 lb Josh.

Did your genitals change is size
Obviously. 130 lbs down means a huge reduction in pubic fat. Plus, working out enhances bloodflow, if you catch my drift.

Did you get negative reactions from friends/family
Never. Everyone in my life is very supportive. I get the occasional, "Oh, you won't be able to keep it up. You'll plateau eventually." This comment usually comes from those who have tried and failed in the past to lose weight. Plateaus are for persons who don't know what they're doing.

Anyway, these kinds of comments were/are great motivation for me, so hopefully they can help ignite the flame for one of you, even though these are minor incidents.

The first week of i-CRAF was awesome. I was hungry most mornings, but I got used to it later in the week. But the 5/2 split made staying under my energy limit super easy. For example, two weeks ago my target was 2000 cal/day and I averaged 2257 cal/day. This week with IF and ICR, I averaged 2046 ca/day. I can get that even closer to 2000 this week, because I'm getting a feel for how much to eat on the IF days.

Anyway, 288.8 this morning, which puts me around ten pounds higher than the lowest weight I've been since college. I was 278 in 2003, so 277 will be a big milestone when it comes next month. I was 243 in college, and it's the lowest I've weighed since I was 15 (I was 270-290 i high school). Here are the deets:

    420 lbs - June 11, 2014 (the beginning)
304 lbs - Apr 20, 2015 (beginning of fourth log)
    296 lbs - Apr 27, 2015 - 2257 cal/day previous week (205p, 72f, 222c)
    289 lbs - May 4, 2015 - 2046 cal/day previous week (181p, 72f, 181c)

Injury Report: After working out yesterday, my shoulder was as sore as it's been in a long time. It might be because of the yard work I did earlier in the day, but regardless, I had to get my wife to rub A535 on it. I've started nudging up my weights fractionally, but I can still do 12 reps in all exercises, so it's pretty light. My bicep feels great, and I upped the EZ curl by 5 lbs, and there was no extra pain. It still feels much weaker, but it could be psychological.

Quick update; i-CRAF is going great. I get a couple hunger pangs in the morning, but otherwise I'm never hungry. I get plenty to eat from 12:30-8:30, and it's super easy to stay within the limits.

Since I started this, I've been waking up between 4-5 AM, feeling entirely alert and awake. I simply can't sleep longer. After a bit of research, it seems this could be the result of low carb, and my body telling me to "get your ass awake and go look for food." Other than feeling like my blood pressure is a bit high, I feel great, and not a lick tired, even with 6 hours of sleep.

I never would've thought that back when I started IF that I would survive the mornings without breakfast. It's amazing how the body can adapt and how overrated it is actually when everybody always says :" breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Even I used to be the dick to always say that and never thought of change.

Since changing over to IF, I've not felt weak, tired or hungry in the morning.

Good work Gen, you are making awesome progress! You passed compy yet or is he still into the weightloss thing?

It's funny ... I'd say I have MORE energy on IF than previously. It's so good, in fact, I may just consider it when I raise my calories again! (except when bulking LOL)

I think Compy is in the 270 range. I weighed in at 285 this morning, so I've got a bit to go. However, he's always been 60 lbs lighter than me for the first 8 months of this, so I'm definitely catching up. I'll need to be at 240 lbs to match his 180 lbs weight loss though!

This log will see a milestone within in the next few weeks, hopefully. 278 lbs is the lightest I've been since gaining weight after college. I'm only 7 lbs above that now, so that's pretty exciting. After that, the next milestone doesn't come until 240 lbs, which is my college weight, and the lowest I've weighed as an adult. I was 270 lbs in grade 9!

Sounds like you've found the plan that suits your lifestyle and hunger phases. Listen to your body and follow it - it's so easy to be criticised or pressured into following the 'norm', but no two bodies are alike.

    Here are my weekday macros:

    1610 cal/day
167g protein/day (I'm having a hard time keeping this up with only 1600 cal)
    57g fat/day
    102g carbs/day

I gotta tell you, it's super easy to hit your macros with IF. I haven't had a single craving of any sort in two weeks.

Edit: Milestone alert! I fit into, and bought, a nice pair of 38 waist pants! That's the advantage of being a tall-ish mesomorph. I'm 285 lbs, but wear 38 pants. LOL

Sorry Kojiiko, I guess I assume everyone knows. LOL

IF = Intermittent Fasting, which is the practice of eating all your food within a narrow window, say 8 hours. This allows large, satiating meals while keeping intake low

ICR = Intermittent Calorie Restriction, which is restricting intake on only some days. It could be one day 3000 calories, the next day 2000 calories, or in my case, it's 5 days of 1600, and then 2 days of 3000.

Bodyfat update. So if you recall from my last log, I decided to use the calipers to measure bodyfat:

This journal goes deeply into skinfold measurements and fat mass accuracy:

    http://info-centre.jenage.de/assets/...JNutr_1974.pdf

Their results have shown that for men, the Durnin/Womersley calculation has a margin of error of only 3.5%, so that's the gospel I'm going to use.
Anyway, last time I measured 203 lbs of lean body mass, which I knew was high. However, the result was less important than my tracking of a metric, since I haven't done the DEXA scan yet. The reason I knew it was high, is because I had a lot of visceral bodyfat. This means although the skin-fold calipers don't show huge fat thickness, a lot of my fat was inside or under the muscle tissue. In the past few months I've lost a lot of visceral fat, so the scale has gone down, but the subcutaneous fat didn't change as much.

So anyway, the new result is 183 lbs LBM, and 36 % BF. This is a realistic number, I think, considering how clothes fit. Someone today said, "You got another ... what? ... 20 pounds to lose?" LOL

So now with my goal of 220 lbs, I'll have around 17% BF. If I get the same BF result then, I'll go on a bulk.

Well, my 5000 calorie Saturday didn't help (I ate a LOT of healthful food, but it was the 6 pints that put me over the edge), so I'm only down two pounds this week (286.8). That's the problem with Monday weigh-ins. Anything you do on the weekend kills your weigh-in. Regardless, I'm happy. Here are the data:

    420 lbs - June 11, 2014 (the beginning)
304 lbs - Apr 20, 2015 (beginning of fourth log)
    296 lbs - Apr 27, 2015 - 2257 cal/day previous week (205p, 72f, 222c)
    289 lbs - May 4, 2015 - 2046 cal/day previous week (181p, 72f, 181c)
    287 lbs - May 11, 2015 - 2243 cal/day previous week(185p, 82f, 161c)

I want to hit my 278 milestone in two weeks, so this scale MUST be 282 lbs by next Monday.

I'm getting so many comments about my weight now, it's ridiculous. Besides my cousin saying I only need to lose another 20 lbs, the most common response I get is, "wow, you must feel great!" And it's true, I do. With my beautiful family, amazing career and everything going on with my health, only winning the lottery could make my life any better!

I also love dressing up now. I should post some pictures. Because I'm a business professional, I get to wear the nice clothes I previously never had the body for, never had the money for, or never had the job they were appropriate for. "I am very excite."

Wow, i'm so happy for you, what you have accomplished is nothing short of amazing...reading your log lets me know if i keep at it i can do it too. I've lived such a sad miserable life (been big all my life) that i'm just so ready to just loose the weight and be healthy and live life like i always wanted to and do the things i always wanted to.

Reading your log and those of others as well who have walked/are walking this journey lets me know that i too can make my dreams a reality if i keep at it. WTG!!!

Wow, you donít realize what this means to me. All I ever wanted to do was create a log here to keep myself accountable, but seeing that Iíve inspired others as a role model is amazing. Itís just another bit of motivation to keep myself accountable.

I donít talk about it much, but I had a pretty rough life. But Iím a firm believer we choose our own destiny, which is what why weíre all here now. Donít let anything stand in your way!

Wow congrats on the size 38 pants. You are only an inch taller than me and I couldn't get into 38's until I was 235 lbs or so. That lends some credence to your goal of being 17% bodyfat at 220 lbs.; however I'm a little skeptical. Maybe I'm just jealous because I'm at like 17% now at 176 lbs.

Also, a lot of guys talk about their supplements on here, so some may be curious of mine. They are as follows:

    AM
2 x Muscle Pharm Fish Oil
    8 x Weider BCCA
1 x Webber Naturals Osteo Joint Ease

    Noon
2 x Muscle Pharm Fish Oil

    PM
1 x Webber Naturals 150mg Magnesium Citrate (I prefer 500mg Magnesium Oxide, but the citrate was on sale)
1 x Combo Zinc, Vitamin D, Magnesium (forget brand)
2 x Muscle Pharm Fish Oil
1 x Webber Naturals Osteo Joint Ease
2 x 250mg 5-HTP (only recently because of the hard time sleeping with the current nutrition plan)

I also sometimes have a Quest Bar. Every weekday I will have this afternoon snack:

    2 scoops BB.com vanilla casein
    140g frozen blueberries
    335ml water
    -blended like blueberry pudding

1 or 2 scoops of Dymatize Whey, as need to get protein up

    Always after working out:
    2 scoops Dymatize Whey
    1 Banana
    Ice
    -blend and enjoy
