They recommend keeping it under a certain RPM for a certain amount of miles for a reason you fukwits.
In this thread people think they can ride like Doohan but know jack crap about actual riding.

So the HJC full face helmet I just bought... There are Velcro strips on the inside of the chin area as if it's a place that padding/foam can go or used to be.
Problem is, I can't remember if there was padding there or not when I bought it yesterday lmao so I don't know if the helmet is okay and the pad didn't fall out or if there even was a pad in there to begin with..:: Sports Teams ::..

Truth, but if your RPM limit is at 15k, keeping it under 6k for the first 200 miles or whatever people do is "retarted".
Keeping it under 12k would be much more suitable. Riding at 10k all day on a brand new bike won't wreck anything. Most people, other than on the highway, can't keep a bike at 10k rpms all day anyway.

dunno how the others do it, but the s1k had a rev limiter at 7krpm for first 600 mi or whatever it was, so wasn't even an option for me not to follow the rules.
i've talked to HD guys from years ago that were pro engine builders. soon as they'd get it built, they'd put natural oil of course in it, wrap it up on the dyno, and say if it breaks it'll break there, if not, it's broken in.
strong opinion subject. i'm just an uneducated mechanical engineer with engine design as my senior design series, so i have no opinion.Axe, author of "No Limits - No Regrets"

GS500 is a fkn delight to work on. Chain cleaned, tightened and re-lubed in about 15 minutes.

Weird how people say use conventional oil during break in only, while every new bike is shipped from the factory with synthetic....

Bruhhhhhhh do yourself a massive favor and buy a 10mm (I think) nut driver for screwing on the 3 nuts on the oil filter cover. Those screws are legit made out of some Swiss cheese hybrid. Soooo many people snap them, I am one of those people (twice, lmao). It snapped clean with the block and was a nightmare to fix. I'd say get a torque wrench but you would have to set it so fcukin low it'd be impossible to use. Just buy a nut driver and hand tighten it very carefully.
I actually miss my gs500. Crazy how easy that thing was to flick around.

I actually used something really similar to that. Used this Loctite "freeze" **** or whatever it's called to loosen the bolts, thing is worth it's weight in gold. Can says it's supposed to spray out at -40*C or something, freezing the bolt and forcing it to contract. Don't know if that's true or not, but it definitely works. Thing that got me was the big filter bolt.
BRB meant to be able to loosen it to vary the flow speed of the oil draining out
BRB went from bone dry to the bolt falling out and me being covered in oil* ʍǝɹɔ ǝıssnɐ *

Well that's an old ******* pos bike from 1863 when you were 3 years old. If synth is so bad for break in then I don't think multiple manufacturers would ship brand new bikes with it.

This. This break in conversation is hilarious.
The people who say go against break in rules, take your tin foil hats off. Why does every mfg in the owners manual say to do it then? You think they're all colluding to secretly fk your bike so you take it into the dealer for engine work?
Bryant seems to be the only one ITT that had issues doing the break in the mfgs way (according to him). Prob had a lemon. Wouldn't be surprised cause it's a GSXR. A push bike is better than a GSXR.*MFC*

Where did you read all makers shipped bikes with full synthetic?
I went conventional oil to synthetic then back to conventional after 1500 miles. No issues with engine that I can see. Dino oil for life. Bike shifts smoother, runs cooler, and less wear on the reciprocating parts.
WDP, why so irate though? If something works for you with no issues then stick with it.Last edited by darkninja67; 04-19-2015 at 07:57 AM.
