Just kidding with ya man. Your gym is gonna be great. Rolled flooring is probably the nicest option, but I've always had stall mats and they're phenomenal for the money.

The rolled rubber flooring is manufactured differently to stall mats, If memory serves me correctly it consist of a rubber and EPDM compound and were specifically designed for use in free weight areas.

To be honest from a functional point of view 3/4" mats and 3/8" rolled rubber perform the same job.

Picked up some of the newer style Monster 2" J-Cups on Black Friday.. they are quite nice, very beefy and well made. They fit excellent. Rogue's powdercoat looks better now too, smoother and they're using a gloss black instead of a matte textured black. No sharp edges is a big plus. They are also very expensive ($265!) , so yeah, I only bought one pair. Lol. They are $40 more than the standard Monster J-Cups shown in bottom photo.

Older Style.. the positive on these is they are a little narrower, which some people may prefer. My set had pretty sharp edges, and as you can see the powdercoat had a little trouble sticking there. Still, these are pretty nice, just a little less refined than the new style.

So the differences appear to be 1) wider and 2) recessed bolt heads..... are the nuts on the inside recessed too?

Yep. A little more uhmw coverage up high too. Nothing earth-shattering, but they're nice. I think they look a lot cleaner than the older style also. Here's the other side.. looks like the bolt screws right into the inside plate:

I'm reposting here, I thought the mech6 thread was a general new equipment/build thread.

Hey guys, I finally assembled everything. It looks so beautiful. I'm very happy with the end result. I'm also glad to have listened to y'all and went the hard route and spent a day building the platform. It looks so much prettier than if it was on bare concrete.

I assembled it according to y'all's tips. Partially tighten all bolts, then load up the rack with weights. I loaded 2 barbells, one on the J cups, one on the safety straps. Both weighed about 500 pounds each. In addition, I also put about another 450 pounds on the weight pegs. Only then did I use a ratchet and wrench to fully tighten each bolt as hard as I could. So my question is this: is it normal for a rack of this size to sway when I shake it side to side? Or if I"m doing muscle ups on the pull up bars, it's okay that it's swaying just a little? It makes me feel a little uneasy, but if it's normal, that'll put my mind at ease. Anyways, here are the pics below:

    I made a video the sway: https://youtu.be/6VwiyH1xxV0

Rogue customer support says its normal, what do you guys think? I'll bolt it down if need be.

Expected although I'd either bolt it down or have a crossmember at the rear/bottom.

Agreed. One of the reasons for the platform is to bolt the rack down into it rather than the concrete floor. Bolting it down will take care of the swaying.

Btw, to OP, just using wood screws into the plywood is plenty. No need to carriage bolt from underneath. 1/4" lag bolts would be easy to drive in with nut driver+drill.
My rack has been screwed down with (6) #12 screws (and washers) into 2" of plywood for years.

Is UHMW held by set screws ? If yes, then can UHMW strips be removed so that J cups can be powder coated in different color if desired

Not really sure.. it's hard to tell how they are held in as it must be internal. I don't see anything external holding the UHMW. I'd prefer not to take them apart to find out (may have loctite). I would assume the 3 screws are going through the big chunk of UHMW, but that's just a guess. I'll look closer at them tonight and see if I can tell how they're made. I've heard Rogue say on their FB or IG that they will powdercoat accessories in a color if you ask them. I'm not sure what the up-charge would be..

Personally, I used a double pull up (Fat & skinny) to help stabilize more, the wider bolted area helps, or you could do the Rogue name plate crossmember..... I don't notice any wobble on RM-4 unless I'm trying to make it move. Just remember the rack is basically only held together by those 2 pull up bars/crossmembers, the normal load on a rack is not side to side movement either, so don't try to wobble it or you'll eventually break something.

Is the nameplate gausset better than the parallel pull up bar? The parallel pull up bar is 17 inch while the nameplate is 14 inch wide. Or is the gausset a better choice since the crossmember itself is thicker than the pull up bars.

For those cross members for you're using you whol get some sway. It all depends on which cross members you use. Get the nameplate cross members the will make it the stiffest out of all the cross members

I'd go with the nameplate. You already have both pull up bars anyway. That nameplate crossmember is STOUT. I really like mine.

Thanks. If the multigrip doesn't work to hold it down, I'll get the nameplate. It just sucks they don't provide the nuts and bolts needed for it. I'll need to buy them from Fastenal hardware store or something.

Yeah, smokinHawk is probably the strongest guy on here (if not, he's like top 2). If he speaks, you listen.

Per Rogue, the colors are the same as their available rack colors and they will powdercoat accessories for $150 per item.

Apparently Rogue does not supply the bolts, washer, and nuts for an extra crossmember. Does anyone know where to buy these separately? I don't think home depot sells any of them that's this size. Just asking for later if I do need to get the nameplate cm.

Nvm, rogue sells them separately.. geezus, such nickel and dimers.

Nice. Hopefully we can get review on the Rhino Belt SQ here. Now a days online reviews are becoming little subjective.

I'd likely go that route as well just to get different colors.

Agreed, I'm more than happy to provide. I still need to get the uprights cut down to fit my basement, disassemble my current squat stand, move my deadlift platform, and finally assemble everything. Hopefully I can get some initial impressions out at least before the New Year.

Thanks! It’s a great rack. If you don’t have already, it definitely deserves a platform.

Hunting for a machine shop to cut down the uprights tomorrow. The Rhino arrived on an uncovered pallet, definitely some cosmetic damage here and there but I'll get a better sense of that during assembly.

    Machine shop?

Go to a hardware store and buy a hack saw and a miter box. Each upright will take 2-3 minutes to modify.

Note: you don't need a miter box if you are capable of making straight cuts free hand.
