Ah, so solid steel sleeves vs. hollow pipe sleeves. You think they would drop the price then? Seems like a total cost cutting move. Original is now in closeout marked down to $275: http://www.roguefitness.com/tb-1-rogue-trap-bar

They did add a second pair of handles on the new version. However, I agree that the big cost cut for them is not having to machine down the sleeves anymore. They probably could of kept the price similar. Raising it seems a bit too much.

Rack: Rogue Monster Lite SML-1 with SAML-1 Spotters , Rogue SPX rack.

Anddddd that's pretty much all I own from Rogue , unless I spray paint "Rogue" on my platform and Troy plates as well haha.
Your setup is rock solid. You can do all the truly important stuff right there.

Your investment will last you and be functional for a lifetime or certainly you will recover a good amount if you choose to swap things out. No reason to whatsoever but maybe you want to go full rack at some point or get the half rack expansion kit and get some plate storage and pullup bar. Hell, I have some time and experience under the bar. I've spent nearly 25 years lifting and have known/trained with people at top national and even world level (I'm not at that level and do it for general fitness now). I have what most would consider a good career and enough funds that I can buy pretty much whatever I want (limit being basement ceilings, space and my own sense of price/value). I own the same squat rack, safeties, and went Ohio bar for no real reason and I'm sure the 2.0 would be fine for my needs - I talked myself down from an Eleiko Comp bar as I don't have room for full OLs where I am now. Couldn't be happier with them. I have a dip station, adjustable bench, reverse hyper and a rower too but the SML-1 and safeties are the core.

I envy the setup you have, all to yourself at your age, and the sacrifice you made to obtain it at a point in your life when funds are generally tight. Quality rack, bar, platform...People who know what they are doing look at this and think, "Guy has his **** squared away."

The second pair of handles is on the TB-2 Trap Bar which is $345. I was comparing the TB-1 to the TB-1 2.0 which look REALLY similar and retail price is the same ($295). They are closing out the TB-1 1.0 so they dropped that to $275.

I think the only differences are these:

    TB-1 2.0
New Schedule 80 Pipe Sleeves: 1.91” in diameter (Oly-compatible) with 16” of loadable length
    Bar Weight (Unloaded): 58 LBS

    TB-1
    Olympic sleeves
    Weight: 80LB (unloaded)

Ok, sorry, I missed that one. I agree with your assessment. Not having machined sleeves should lower the cost.

Another difference, which I really don't understand, is the TB 2.0 is not rackable compared to the TB-1 that is. Found out when I recently got mine and tried to rack in the j-cups. Rogue has since changed the description on their website.

Really? The description still says they "carried over the same dimensions and rack-compatible design of the original TB-1."

This "update" isn't making much sense to me.

Yep, the weird thing is, it seems as if I, the customer, brought that to their attention. I would assume a company as big as Rogue would test out their products before putting them in production/selling them. I have a Monster Lite rack and the corners of the hex actually sit in the j-cups when racking, making it not rackable (won't spin). The inside of my rack is 43" between both posts, the body of the bar(hex) is 44" from corner to corner.

Black zinc is more expensive than clear (silver) zinc. At least around here. Not sure how much more the composite bushings are, since the spread of bushing prices is huge. As an example, a 1"IDx1"long bushing (sleeve bearing) can range from $2 to $80 depending on what it's made of.

Pretty nice looking power bar. I wish it was black oxide instead of zinc though.. I'd be tempted if the price were a little closer to the OPB. That raw steel version is such a great bar at $250.

If you compare the pictures, the opb and westside bar have different knurl patterns. The westside bar looks more aggressive. Like thejosef said, I also wish the westside bar was black oxide instead of black zinc. I have the Ohio bar in black oxide and like it a lot.

I'm not a fan of black zinc. As least when bright zinc wears, it wears to a similar color. My black zinc sleeves aren't looking that great after 2 years.

I think I'm going hard chrome on my next bar.

When I asked Rogue about this, they said the OPB is more aggressive:

    OPB is slightly more aggressive.

Probably a weightlifting/olympic bar, as they need the less aggressive knurling for their lifts as opposed to a power bar. Then there are the "multipurpose" bars that are somewhere in the middle. The CAP OB-86B I have has very light knurling (compared to my OPB) that is still grippy.

Ohio 29mm 45lb Power Bar Raw / Bright (closeout)
So my Closeout Ohio Power Bar came in the mail today, as warned there are no marked end caps, no rust nothing crazy.
Knurling looks solid, but doesn't look like they even tried to clean it off because I had to remove some brown chalk or dirt.
The sleeves where the plates slide onto look normal, however the sleeve guards ||==== , the || looks to have a pattern of indentations on both sides (Imagine taking a hammer to a piece of wood) I don't know if this is a machining defect, the bar was dropped, or however they store the bars this bar was at the bottom of the stack.
I paid 212$ for a 250$ bar. I don't really baby my equipment so i'm fine with the imperfections, and I am a student on a budget so saving 35$ was meh, but that is 35$ towards something else, if you have the $$, just buy new.
Packaging was solid, but leave instructions for the UPS guy on your door because it looks like he just threw it down and left it hit the side of house leaving a nice little scratch in the paint.

How much was shipping compared to that of a new bar? IE- what was the total savings including shipping over buying a new bar?

With the higher shipping costs of closeout bars, my total savings is only $30. Not really enough for me to consider a closeout bar.

I might as well contribute to the thread. I just bought the Ohio Power Bar in Black Zinc and it's excellent. My only criticism is that the center knurling might be just a bit too aggressive during squats so I may have to wrap it. Overall, though, it's fantastic.
