i think it's great for deadlifting, though i guess if you're deadlifting real heavy you'd probably want something with higher weight limit and maybe more aggressive knurling. that being said, i think this bar has great finish and knurling.

the value is too hard to beat. especially if you order through staples with coupons.
i think the best part is that it's carried by major retailers, so if you don't like it, returns are pretty easy.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

^you link her here.
I ordered this bar based on recommendation of the forum and don't regret it slightly. Got it off amazon for $130ish shipped, plus a credit of $15-20 due to shipping damage. Although it's nearly impossible to ship a 45lb bar to someones house without damage, I don't care. I recommend if your bar comes damaged inform them and take advantage of whatever they offer you.
The bar has been great. I don't have very much to say other then that it was worth every dollar spent and would fit any lifters gym.

I ordered mine from Wayfair because at the time Amazon was more expensive(though Staples may be the best option now) and while it came with one endcap almost off the packaging, it arrived without damage. I think the likelihood of a bar getting damaged in transit is higher than other items but I lso the three main vendors everyone has recommended for buying these have done a good job about rectifying the situation(unlike some higher end fitness equipment companies)

They might have adjusted but i think you can stack those:
$25 off $75 and 25%off coupons
150-25=125
125x.75=93.75
93.75+7+14=114.75
They were getting lower numbers before so I am not sure if the price got raised or they stack in a more beneficial number? Personally I would just buy on my Prime account if it's just a $10 differenceLast edited by THErunCMD; 03-24-2015 at 02:36 PM.

Great bar, I love mine. I did mark the rings and the ends of the center with silver paint for easier grip placement in lower light situations. No issues other than some light flash rust on the center which cleans up no problem. The sleeve knurling did get scratched up pretty good when I had some cheap plates, but that was my fault.

I'm having a hard time finding that 10% off code. I know it used to pop up on their screen when visiting with a cleared browser, but I'm no longer seeing it & don't see it on any of the coupon sites
Update: Since I couldn't duplicate the Staples deal, I just ordered it through Wayfair, via Amazon, for $119, since I had some Amazon points to further lower the price.
Thanks for this thread and the good information, since it reminded me to check pricing, again. I missed the $117 deal, but am happy with this price, with no taxes tacked on. Reps to OP when I can.Last edited by AAnoldStyle; 03-27-2015 at 09:16 AM.

the ob-86pb has all black sleeves but is only 20 bucks more than the 86b. i don't like the black sleeves, but i guess if you need the extra 500lbs capacity it makes sense? the ob-86pbck2000 costs 240 and honestly i think at that point you're looking at Ohio bar/TPB territory.

It has come to my attention that the ob-86pb, while having 150k psi tensile strength, has a lower yield strength of 110k psi. The ob-86b has a tensile strength of 130k psi, and a yield of 120k psi. So theoretically, the ob-86b is less likely to develop a permanent bend when compared to the ob-86pb. However, the ob-86pb is less likely to completely snap in half. This is how I understand it. Kindof interesting, although I am curious if the whip is any different between the two.

i remember reading something this or something similar, your recap (snapping in half vs bending) makes things easier for me to understand.
anyhow i do remember several regulars saying that the bar for which this thread was created being the best value.
but keep in mind it's still a cheaper bar, and should be considered as such. once i get strong enough to get into squats and deadlifts in the high 300's i'll be looking at upgrading to another barDomicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Its back down to $125 on Staples.com.
Here is the deal I got. I bought a $100 Staples gift card on ebay for $85 and got $8.50 back in ebay bucks.
I then bought a $25 off $100 for $7.65.
Total- i spent $85 + $7.65 = 92.65 - $8.50 in ebay bucks. So my total was $84.15.

I own the CAP-OB86B as well and am interested to hear more feedback on it. I have been using it for about a year and a half (exclusively for the first 6 months) and really like the knurling.
However, I did have a problem with the ribbed sleeves and some cheap plates that would actually create metal splinters! If I happened to touch the sleeves I ended having to pick metal out of my hands with tweezers. Once the inside of the plates smoothed out (and I got better plates) it seems like the issue went away. Curious if anyone else noticed anything like this.

I like the OB-86B for what it is but I literally bent the piss out of mine within a month of normal use.
I would advise any of the heavier trainers to just save up more money for a TPB, I wish I would have.I am going to die under a heavy barbell one day and it's going to be f*cking awesome--HamburgerTrain
