It's not as big a problem with most grades of stainless, but it's enough of an issue that I can't own blued guns. I had a beautiful (and fairly extensively modified) Colt Combat Elite that I couldn't even touch unless I immediately wiped it down with an oil or silicone soaked rag. Leaving fingerprints overnight resulted in a rusty slide. I wound up selling it to a friend.

I received the bar yesterday. yes, it is pretty oily . I wiped the bar with dry cloth still it is oily and the Knurling is not as aggressive as i would like it to be. But it does say medium. It has Green sticker at the each end that says BEAST and 20kg. The sticker does look little cheesy .
It did feel little lighter than my other bar. The my other bar is really cheap one. Probably is 31 mm. I plan on to replace it with Rouge OPB ( leaning towards it) or Budcapps TPB ( Regular one)
Amazon bumped the price to $114 plus shipping i think . I got it for $99 + free shipping
I am NOT into heavy weights (in my terms, i don't want to lift as much as of folks here can do ) yet... but hopefully soon and see how this one lasts.
So far i left it on the carper open in the GYM room in the basement.

you could wet a cloth with some wd-40 and wipe it down, i'd imagine that should take care of it.
curious how many of you have oily bars. i don't recall my CAP coming with any grease on it.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

My bar came with a fair amount of oil on it, I just soaked it with water and then wiped off with something lint free. Regarding the grease or Oil vhd16, I'm still not sure which one I think is best. I have used Red N Tacky with good results on the CAP, and the last bar I used 3&1 oil and it spins like a dream.

Bumping this thread to say that after 3 years I finally got around to disassembling my OB-86B and greasing the bushings. I was unable to remove the horseshoe fitting, I could never get it down far enough to fit a screwdriver under it. It didn't matter, though, as I could slide the sleeve all the way to the center to expose the load bearing surfaces on the inner portion. That part had no lubrication on it at all, and the outer bushing only a light touch of thin oil. I cleaned off the surfaces and applied wheel bearing grease to them. I put some grease in the end caps too. There had been a very slight amount of play in the sleeves, afterwards there was none, and the spin was completely silent and smooth. Don't know how often I should expect to do this, but I feel like I've already greatly extended the life of this bar.

I took apart my York Split Sleeve barbell as soon as i got it, because i was excited too but mostly because it was pretty gunked up. It was enjoyable but tinker with it but i don't think i will do it again with any of bars until i have a reason to.
Did you take yours apart because it was seizing up or something? or just for ****s and giggles?Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Maybe a little of each. As I said, there was a tiny bit of play, enough to make an annoying clicking sound, and a metal to metal sound on just one side when it rotated. The rotation also had a bit of drag to it.
It wasn’t too big a deal, I’m nowhere near loading the bar up enough to challenge it, but reading this thread made me curious about what the state of the equipment really was.
The ease of spin is still nothing to write home about, but at least it’s quiet and feels more secure.Last edited by ElrondHubbard; 12-10-2018 at 10:25 AM.

I would dare say a thorough greasing will probably last the lifetime of the bar so long as it's being used. When they're no longer used and get ignored in the shed or garage then start getting dirty is when they seize up.

Probably for not a for long time unless it has been left to rot in harsh climate. Some of my bars which have been re greased 2 years ago are just doing fine. On one of the bars ,some times i see oil marks on the top of the sleeves after usage . I might gone little over the board with 3 in 1 oil. One drop or max 2 drops is plenty.

The CAP OB-86B has better knurling than the AB Mammoth bar. Change my mind......
That's right folks, you heard it here first, sold my Mammoth bar and decided to grab a CAP bar while waiting on REP's next stainless barbell. To update what's been said previously, I still believe this is THE barbell to buy if you are just getting into building a home gym on a budget. This is the third one I have owned, and quite possibly the nicest one I have seen from CAP to date. The coloring on the shaft is a little darker than my previous, I was expecting a chalky dark gray but this is nearing black in regular lighting. The knurling is crisp with clean stops/starts, it's just a perfect medium between a passive AB Mammoth and your typical TPB/OPB. The package arrived in typical fashion, busted tape on the ends but the sleeves look no worse for the wear. Aside from the one reject CAP bar I got at auction this is the second time CAP has made me wonder why I would even bother spending more.
Seriously, I'm 100% sober and have not lost my mind

Urban....bar looks like a great value indeed. I recently had a huge disappointment in my recent T-grip barbell purchase from AB but ended peacefully with a full refund thanks to Mandy.
They say you get what you pay for. Having my doubts for sure.
Those sleeves look very familiar and almost identical to my Xmark mule bar. Congrats on the bar."When you have tried all that you can do.......failure becomes your next option." -me

Back to basics i guess lol.
UL,
I thought you were gonna get the Buddy Capps Starting Strength 20kg Bar. May be replace OB-86b with that by summer?. Specs are identical and smooth sleeves plus CK and knurling is not as aggressive as TPB.[M]===[6]▪ Mech6 Crew #35 ▪[M]===[6]

Right there with you. I lost the "passion" for equipment quite a while ago. I've sold off a few pieces that didn't see regular use, and have been thinking about getting rid of a couple more. Back to the basics.
With that said, I'm also in the market for a new bar to put my homemade squat handles on. I'm actually thinking about ordering an OB-86PBCK from Walmart or Amazon for my wife and boys to squat with and mounting my handles on my old Quest Power Bar. The OB-86PBCK might handle heavier squats, but I know the Quest bar will."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I almost went with that one instead, but figured why mess with something I know is already decent. REP better hurry up on the aggressive stainless, another month from now and I might just settle on the Ob86b and never look back. Might get rid of my Powertec and Hyper as well, back to a SUPER basic setup and it makes room for the wife's Elliptical.
But back onto the CAP, went down today for a session and from afar it almost looks like a TPB. Once I break it down and remove the sticker it should be GTG!
Flip side there is that the REP plates fit so tight on the sleeves, along with the extra ribbing, there is absolutely no need for collars. But I do agree, pulling plates off is a little jarring with the sound.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #58 ▪█─────█▪

I like my cap bars. Got them years ago when the dollar was near par and they were super cheap. No complaints. I admit I’m not a fan of the zing but it’s really not that bad.
