I don't really have a problem with anything the lilliebridges are doing. For people who know nothing about the sport, they will see it as an amazing performance(which just to be clear, it still is an amazing performance). It draws attention to the sport. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

The individual will judge if the lifts are legit or not, and it's clear most do not see it that way. Everyone should lift to their own standards. I do. Find a fed that lifts to your standards and compete their. That's what these guys are doing and moving a **** load of weight doing it and drawing a lot of attention at the same time.

If Michael Jordan/ Wayne Gretzky only played in backyard leagues and drank beer in between periods would people hate on them?

Also, I hope Eddie's injury isn't too awful. Haven't heard much on it, but it caused him to withdraw from the contest.
Been cheering for Thor the past couple of years - It'd be awesome to see him take 1st.

Yes, people would. Fedor got hated on for fighting outside the UFC, I doubt people would think Tom Brady would be a potential GOAT if he was playing Arena Football. In the end there isn't any cimparison to be made because the sports are so different, but people do expect there to be some sort of standard. If you're backing out of BOB2 in order to do a ****ty backyard meet then there is something to be said about that.

I also disagree with the notion that it was still a great performance. Were heavy ass weights loaded? Sure. Doesn't mean it was a great performance if it was done to a crap standard.

see, i used to be of the "you do you, i'll do me" mentality

but (generalizing pretty hard here, probably reaching) if you care about the sport and its integrity, it does NOT make sense for them to do this. (again, reaching further, slippery slope argument, whatever) first it was half squats, and now it looks like ernie's subtly unlocking his knees and subsequently getting three white lights. pretty soon powerlifting's going to devolve into "can you even unrack this?" with ego points for walking it out (because who the **** would walk it out when you get whited for using a monolift? just load up more weight, pussy)

it comes down to records and preserving LEGITIMATE lifts. not this horse **** the lilliebridges put up this weekend

Right, they wouldn't be considered the greatest of all time. So. Is it wasted talent? Nope, not if they are doing what they want to do.

I agree, Brady wouldn't be the GOAT if he played arena football, but he would the GOAT of arena football. Just because you don't care about it, doesn't mean it's worthless or does it take away from the accomplishment. You said it yourself, it's a different sport with different standards. They aren't truly comparable. Which do I think is most impressive, squats to depth, and paused bench, etc... But I also doing have to hate a lilliebridge meet to say that.

He squatted more than anyone at 275 with his standards. More than anyone, ever. It's a great performance in my eyes. Is the most impressive squat at 275 ever? To me, no. To others, yes. All I'm saying, is it'll get attention. That's a good thing, and it's cool as hell to see people lift huge weights.

And thats fine, different strokes and all that. I'm just not going to be impressed by something someone does to an OBVIOUS lower standard when they're trying to be considered the best in the world.

Anyone in the Jacksonville Florida area? I just moved here and am preparing for a meet in 6 weeks. I'm at training ground fitness right now but they don't have a decent squat rack. If anyone knows a better spot or wants to get some heavy squats in somewhere that would be cool. I'm scared to go heavy alone especially without any sort of pins or safety whatsoever.

Also Hickson is still out there looking like he survived Auschwitz and burying his squats in certified-Ernie Sr. fashion.

They have to keep up their brand of a world record breaking lifting family, gotta keep those sponsorship dollars coming in.

It doesn't surprise me at all that they would pull **** like this.

Eric Lilliebridge was one of the first powerlifters I ever discovered, and I loved following him. IDGAF about any of them now. There's a reason they never deliver at other meets, but break records when they lift at their own gym, and take as long as they want, have their homies spooting and refing etc. ......and SR.s squat wtf was that?!

I can't unrack stuff though so wtf do I know.

Anyone seen the new Metal Pro bench shirts?

X stitching in the sleeves, four ply chest plate, a collar that's about two-three inches thick and scooped low. Looks pretty gangstered.

I have one hanging out in the trunk of my car but have yet to use it. Equipped powerlifting isn't cool anymore.
