That's about what I was expecting. Squat wrecks him in most meets for a guy that can pull 900+ area.

Chad Wesley Smith is lifting raw (no wraps) at a local meet here in San Diego this weekend. Any bets on whether he'll beat Eric Lilliebridge's 914 squat? CWS hit 959 back in November with wraps and a mono.

CWS is a beast, but I don't see him doing 915+ without wraps. I'd guess he'll be going for around 400kg.

Yeah, never mind. He's a SHW, not 308. I guess that was an error on his scorecard. He says he's had the best training cycle of his life and if things go well he might make an attempt at 915. I guess we'll see.

If you're a wide stance squatter, like very wide, then I could see where this might help. But if you're not a super wide squatter, wouldn't smart training, mobility work, and preventive maintenance be all you'd need to keep your hips healthy?

Was just gonna say this. I think he'll hit at least 900+ though, and probably like a 565 bench or so, and and 815 deadlift?

This is not the case for SHWs or most people in 308s. You get a boat load of leverage from having 36" thighs, a massive belly, and better leverages on the squat. This (generally) has 0 positives for the deadlift, and (generally) hinders it.

    Also wraps.

    Also short femurs.

Take away wraps and I don't think this statement is so true; it'd be more like 50/50.
    637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
    600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

    Brandon Lilly:

Here's what I say to young lifters on Weight Classes. They are in our sport to give you a perspective on strength relative to weight. BUT, the ultimate goal is maximum strength. Take it from another context.
    275 lbs Man: I make $150,000 a year.
181 lbs Man: I make $60,000 per year but you weigh more than me.
No one cares what they weighed just what they earned.
It's the same in the sport, no one has ever asked me what I weighed just what I lifted. Save the weight cuts for the guys chasing All-Time World Records (A total that actually means something), and just lift as much weight as you can at the weight you train at. I promise you'll be far less stressed on meet day, and enjoy yourself more..

Now, the general idea is fine. But dat analogy about earnings... lolwut.

Also I follow Kevin Oak and T Cummins on Instagram and both are crazy strong but seem like they both have too much of an ego.

Kevin Oak did an 800+ squat and it was high. He said it was high and then went on to say something along the lines of: "some days you can't squat to depth but I'd rather not hit 500 to depth. Instead I'm gonna attempt 800+ and **** it, let's see what happens - you can be a man or not".

Anyway, didn't make any sense. Equally with T Cummins he had a video of his squat which was 10lbs over his planned opener and it was hard + high.

Both are obviously VERY strong but if they just took their egos out of it a notch and just accepted high was high and RPE 9.5 is not RPE 6, probably would do better.

I compare that argument more to cars.

I'm more impressed by a say 9 second car than I am by an 11 second car, even if the 9 second car is a turbo viper or something and the 11 second car is a NA civic.

    Faster is always more impressive.

Except GTR's. Those are playstations on wheels and stupid.

bench: 319, 341, 347. Only reason i took 347 was because my 341 was slow as fak, but i smoked 347. Thats the way she goes. Goal was 352, but im still really happy.
deadlift: 529, 551, 573. I have not pulled over 500 in training since september of 2014. So i'll fuking take it. lol. Deadlift training has been a mental issue since my last meet.

    1438@258 (28lb total meet PR)

I had a great time either way.
When did it start/end? Good job btw.

One would think so. I think its more with guys that are pro and there hips undergo a very high amount of force. With the average lifter its probably unnecessary, but may serve as a useful training/overload technique for those who, like you said, squat wide and already place a lot of load on their hips

It was great meeting you bro.

Didn't get the 1800 that I wanted on Saturday. I had it if I could have hit my third bench and deadlift attempts, both of which were fairly close. Pretty sure I said this last meet, but this is definitely the last time I compete at 198. Going to put on a solid 10 pounds or so and compete at 220 in October.

Competed at UPA Nationals yesterday. Things went bad and/or good depending on how you look at it. Finally hit a PR 600 squat. Benched a solid "PR" at 391 on bench, despite having an injured rotator cuff, but got reds for lifting my butt for a brief moment. Injured my hamstring warming up on deads and quit after my opener. No where near a total PR, but its obvious im getting stronger and my training cycles are working. Longest meet ever. Was there for 12 hours. Warm up room was annoying. People would load up a bar and try and "reserve" it, planning for their next warmup planned 5 minutes away and didnt want anyone to touch it. Couple people from some big gyms would pretty much cut in line and got annoyed when asked if "others" could work in. Basically, lifting with some of these monsters was cool, but it was more annoying than usual as there were several entitled people (note: i am not referring to Eric L). Maybe this is normal for big meets, or I'm just used to more laid back local meets.

Side note, I got to see Eric L's 1025 in person and up close. Derek Kendall, tho not competing, was the biggest guy there. Daniel Bell (whom i had never heard of) was a cool guy and put up an impressive 900+ squat. Couldn't believe Oak was only 242.

At this point he's pretty much going against what most people think he should do anyway so if anyone can do it then it's probably him.
