What would you guys recommend for lockout strength past rack pulls? The paused deficit deadlifts you advised worked WONDERS for my speed off the floor, the limiting factor for me just seemed to be lockout strength.

    Any pro tips?

Is it a hip hinge/form problem?

I was having lockout problems and I did block pulls and banded deadlifts for awhile and it seemed to really help.

I would second the pulling against bands and or block pulls.

Is the poor man's banded deadlift fine? Where youre stepping on the band? I dont have access to a specialty platform.

You use some heavy DBs to set up the bands if there are enough

Block pulls and any other kind of heavy glute work. Also, improving your starting position goes a long way.

Man I hate block pulls. Always feels so much heavier to me. Clearly I need to do more of them. I dont think I am getting my positioning right because I always scrape my knees up when I do them.

Right on, fellas. Really appreciate the input. All I care about is deadlift so it means a lot lmao.

And RunCommand, I have that problem too. I think, for the most part, shins should probably be vertical at the start position on rack pulls. First time I did them I set up with the bar over midfoot and it took forever to get off the blocks because leverage was piss poor, and then ended up drifting backward and into my knees.

Block pulls, Speed pulls against bands, pull through's, glute and hip work to help drive your hips through at lock out. The lockout strength looked ok but it looked like you have trouble firing your glutes and driving your hips through the lock out.

Dude thanks! Getting my hips through is definitely something I struggle with, for sure. I hammered some stiff leg deadlifts today, which seemed to fatigue my lockout pretty hard. I'm short torso/long ass fukkin legs, so maybe that has something to do with it?

    FAM I NEED HELP

Any other members of the SQ = DL sub-fam, have you found anything that has been particularly useful for your deadlift training? Volume, intensity, frequency, exercise selection, etc.

Squat keeps moving up well and DL just feels like it never goes anywhere. Looking for some suggestions here so I can pull 500 before I squat it..

That used to be me. Sq was like 435 and dl was ~455. Then I started training strictly singles on the dl and learning to pull really really fast on all my warmups. Blew past 500 in less than 2 months and it kept going up. But then my squat barely moved up since then lol.

I'll say speed is something that really helps for me. Especially training that on every rep during warmups. I think KK said something like "every rep should be as explosive as possible". Heard that about 4 years ago and it has stuck with me ever since.

More volume, more frequency. For a long time I was doing one top set of deads a week, now I do three to four on one day (plus accessories) plus heavy alternate deadlift after squats. As long as you ramp up, you can handle the work load. Took me out of squat > deadlift club.

Also, I had to stop being a lil bitch when it came to deadlifting. Not saying that's your problem, but "dreading" deadlifting became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Turning it around psychologically made the difference. Finding new training partners helped immensely in this regard. Things can get stale.

Awesome advice man, especially the mental part is true, deadlift day has kinda become dreadlift day. I might get away from the competition movement because it is really stale and just hammer some variaitons that I suck at like stiff legs and block pulls, etc. Gonna probably do more volume and perhaps frequency too after this meet is done.
