    Finished 8/9 at 655/375/700 at 215 BW. Think I got a gift on my 3rd bench but oh well I just lift it. 700 dead was a grind, but it was finish it or pass out. Without the gift I would of had 364 bench and still added 100lbs to my total from last November. Back to a long offseason to improve my body % and start to fill out properly in the 220 class.

    Competing in USPA meet next weekend, I HookGrip and like to feel the slack first before I pull, someone mentioned I might get red lighted for pulling the bar and finishing the lift.... anyone hear of this? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

    I set grip; pull slack, relax the bar, and than explode.

    Will I get a red for this?

    Apparently it was a state meet with about 360 lifters so they needed 3 platforms and 2 days. But I guess it still wasn't enough, they probably needed to go to a 3rd day. But most people don't wake up at 6 AM on a normal day and train at 9 AM, so I think the afternoon and late starts can be beneficial. I always train in the afternoons so it'd be normal for me. Plus with a late start, you actually get more than the normal 2 hours from weigh ins till when lifting starts. But I guess when you bomb out you have to only point out the negatives and hide the positives.

    well, one of the reasons I like to move up weight classes is that I get to lift later...more similar to my usual time of trianing and I get more time to eat...I don't see how that's bad

    no you'll be fine, in fact this has been codified in the rules that "Any rising of the bar beyond normal pre-lift set up
    or “lifter psyching”
    or any deliberate attempt to do so will count as a bonafide attempt. "

    because older referees had been making red light calls based on jerking on the bar pre-lift being the "one attempt" you can yank on the bar to "psyche" up and its totally fine just leave the plates on the ground. I red lighted a guy at nationals for jerking the bar so hard the plates were 2" off the ground, the head of refereeing came over and was like "you know he can psyche up all he wants" my response was the plates were well off the ground, he said "oh ok yeah that's a red light"

    Awesome, I have seen a few guys do so, when getting grip set, or psyching up. I just like letting my thumbs know what's going to come soon.

    yeah it's pretty much a upward/downward motion
